  1. I actually got it used from a guy out in B.C. and I really have no idea which co. makes it, or even how old it is! It looks similar to a VB product, but I moulded mine on. (the VB one is just a bolt on)
  2. Yah, good one! They are a 2.3 as well I believe...I don't think as reliable as the volvo and a bit harder/pricey to find parts for... I dono though...Its a Ford!! AHGGGG!!!!!
  3. I don't think so.. I would think it would 'trap' the pop sound and smoth it out a bit.. I keep thinking about the demo derby's where they run 4cys and just put a straight pipe from the maifold out the side of the car. (ditch the resonator/cat/muffler ect. MAN those little 4 bangers are loud! But with the stock exhast systems (before they get ripped apart to go to their death), they are prety quiet...and most stock systems I have seen have some sort of resonator pipe shortly after the maifold. But I might just be way out in left field here.
  4. I just added a few pics in my album of the progress so far. I've been at it for about 2 weeks so far (2-3 hours after work on weeknights, 4-6 hours on saturdays) and I am now able to breath bondo/fiberglass dust as if it were normal air. Keep inmind I have very little expiriance with this stuff, and have no air tools, dirt for a floor, and a portable garage that leaks. Did I mention Im on a bit of a budget? Anyway, what do you guys think? http://hybridz.org/nuke/modules.php?op=modload&name=coppermine&file=index&cat=10187
  5. I'm sorry if this has been answered (I DID search, but found nothing on this..) but I'm wondering if ther's a way to 'order' my pics in any way? I wanted to have a 'before/after' kind of set up for a few of my pics, but cant figure out how to do it. They are all over the place right now... Pardon my ignorance, Im kinda dumb with computers. Thanks.
  6. How the heck are you gona fit 4" under there!!!
  7. Hmm.. maybe a resonator pipe right after the header? Maybe it would create a little back presure, and possibly subdue the 'poping/backfiring' a bit.. I'm thinking just a piece 12-18" long, .5" bigger diameter than your 2.5" pipeing.. I dono..My car sounds simmilar.. I have a stock manifold, straight pipe (2" I think) out to the aftermarket 'twin tip glaspack' thing. I havn't actually driven my car yet, but even when I rev it up, it pop's as it's spinning back down to idle.
  8. My thought would be a Volvo Turbo... Something out of the late 80's (240, 740,?) It's a 2.3 4 banger that IIRC made about 180-200Hp stock. Its a 'tried and tested engine (I think Volvo used it for about 15 years or more!) and it's tough. Stock turbo set to a tame 6-7psi stock, but I would say they are capable of 10-12psi no prob. Heck, they haul around heavy Volvos repectably, so it'd probly go real nice in a Z! Stick a bigger IC in, stick a manual boost controler on it, and have fun!
  9. Um.. just a FYI.. Making members of this board 'upset', just to get a response might not be the best way of getting your questions answered. I have found most folks on this board are very mature and, like the first two replys said, will help if they can. BTW, welcome to the Z world and good luck with the 300. I'll let you know if I make it to the garage this weekend.
  10. I have a 93 King cab with the V6, and IIRC it is almost the identical motor. (minor changes on the intake/ect) And I will tell you this; A shop charged me 3.5 hours labour, plus the belt. (ouch.. ) BUT I know these guys at the shop pretty good, and I can ask them how they did it/what the trick is. Heck.. they probly have the manual/procedure for you car anyway. I'm going to get some work done there in the next few days I think so I'll ask them.
  11. Yah.. uh.. heh heh.. well, I screwed up on that one and my cable loops out and hit's the weather strip a bit.. oh well, it works.
  12. I have to agree with that man. It just sort of bugs me a bit when you see a bunch of postings for items for sale, and they only have 1 or two posts as members of this board. Like they only signed up on this forum to make a few bucks.... It's like the feeling you get when you read a bunch of bad feedback on someone on Ebay..'Hmm.. think I'll pass..' You know? I'm not trying to attack any of the new members here, but it's just my feeling on this topic.
  13. yup, I'v got a few of those, and old milk crates are great 'tool box's' too!
  14. Yah yah, I know. Heck, I opted for the Chev in my RX, you know 'Take yer silly import and Chev it!' I figure in my situation, the ford might have been a better fit (front mounted dizzy, smaller overall dimentions, stangs came with headers and 5 speed, ect) but I knew more Chev ppl than ford ppl (Read; Free parts and help evrywhere!) so that's the way it happened. I figured someone would say something about my *cough*ford*cough* coment though.
  15. Something that just came to mind here.. I know this is the chevy forum.. but have/would you consider a ford power plant? As far as I know, the 302 is a bit smaller than the chevy smal block, and can be built to roughly the same specs...maybe it would be a better fit in the 350z's engine bay? Just an idea.
  16. I did mine the 'sort of cheezy but cheep' way. I used a hood pull cable from a Honda CRX that was free (yah yah, guess what; I'm using the seats too! $25/pair it was a deal! ) and drilled a hole in the bottom of the hatch (inside) and a smaller hole through the latch tab/thingy that the push button used to hit. Ran the cable up the inside of the hatch, looped a bit where the hatch joins the roof (to allow for open/closing of hatch) and screw the handle to the inside panel behind the seat. It's not too pretty, but it works. I had to do something, as I have installed a whale tail and molded it to the hatch, covering the hole anyway. I'll try to get some pics up soon of my progress on the body, and I'll throw a few in of my hatch cable setup.
  17. Meh.. I worked at a gas station for a while and it didn't even HAVE an extiguisher for the first few months I was there! (And on top of that, a guy freaked at me one day because I told him to put out his ciggarette or I wouldn't pump his gas!) Anyway, too bad about your car man, hope Nissan comes good for it!
  18. I will agree with that 'I have created a monster' thing. When I got the V8 settled into my RX7, me and a few friends stared at it for a few min's going 'Wow...thats cool' Thats actually how me and my buddys refer to my RX now; 'The Monster'. It took me about 6 months to complete my cnversion, but thats an RX7 with a rear axle conversion, on a tight budget, and I got bit by the 'Hmm.. while Im doing this, I might as well do this.. ' bug. Little bugger... Anyway, have fun man. Hope all goes well!
  19. Hey man, welcome to the board! And uh.. thats a crazy thing to think about doing to a brand new 350z.... I'd say DO IT!! And Im sure you could get good $$$ selling off the stock 350z motor/trans to fund this little hybrid project! Heck, that would be a nice powertrain to drop into MY 280z... but ANyway... I'd be prepard for some serious custom fab work, and possibly space/clearance issues.. I'd say start by measuring the engine bay of the 350z to see exactly how much room you have in there to stuff some american iron. Not that you'll get it here, but be prepared for lots of negative feedback from.. heck.. pretty much evryone else.. But If you really want to do this, go for it man! I put a chev V8 in an 85 Mazda RX7, and I heard it all. But it fit, it worked, and it was damn fast! I think you'll like it here.
  20. Im not a pro at body work, but I would fix up the affected areas as you said, then I would go over the whole car lightly with 320-600 wet sand paper, and epoxy prime the whole car before painting (as oposed to just priming the fixed areas) And white is a good way to go too, because it will 'hide' slight waves or imperfections on the body and repaired areas. There are quite a few ppl here that are really good at this stuf, hopefuly they will see this post and add some input. Hope this helps. Matt
  21. Hey man, I thought you were goung to use those and sell the fronts? Anyway don't worry, this isn't an offer cause right now, Im so broke I can afford to pay attention! Just curious.
  22. Yah, that is a VERY cool set up. My friend is all stupid over Mustangs and he's gona be building an engine to use those heads on. But he's not satisfied with the 302, OH no.. he's gona build a 351W and shoot for 900hp. In an 85 Stang. This should be interesting!
  23. Right on guys! My girlfriend is cool like that too. I cant believe it sometimes, but she tells me thats one of the things she likes mose about me is that I go out and work on my car. ? Yah. She goes and 'brags' to some of her friend that I'm workin on an old Datsun, and it's so cool, ect. I don't think I'll ever be able to compleatly explain my love of these cars to evryone, but it's nice that I don't have to to my G/F and a few of my close friends. I'm pretty picky, and I don't think I can do body work that great., but then a friend, or my girl will come out to my car, look at it, and say 'Damn man! Thats looking good! This thing is gona be so cool man, good to see you're taking your time and doing a nice job with it!' I like that.. the 'this is the only car like this in town' thing, and I can say 'I built this. I did EVRYTHING on this car myself.' If I ever get it done...
  24. That will be fun! Crank up the boost and put some lead in your right foot, you'll have a good time!
  25. Looks good on there, but doesn't it interfear with the rear hatch opening?
