Very cool man! A friend of mine is fixing up/roding a similar car. You'll have to excuse my ignorance, as I don't have a clue what make that is, but it looks a LOT like my friend's, except his is a 2 door. He put a 10 bolt rear end, as well as front spindles/brakes (camaro) in it, and a mild 350 for now. (one of those 'had it lying around..' things.) Personaly, I think the flat black paint job on older cars like these... but hey, whatever you do, keep the pics coming! Good luck.

Hmm.. so its bad all over.. I've been bitching for weeks now about the gas hikes.. about two months ago, I started going to trade school, 300 K's away. Gas was 75 cents a liter. Now, not even 2 months later, it is 95 cents... 20 cents in two months!! (I ont know the conversion to gal, but I assume it works out to roughlythe same % hike most of you guys in the states are seeing) AHHHGGG!!! Anyway, I am now seriously thinking about buying a diesel car for day to day transportation. Ive noticed the price of diesel doesnt spike as much as gas... I'm assuming because if it did, the truckers would basicaly stop running again. (It was a few years ago I guess.. here in Canada anyway, a bunch of truckers just slowed down to like 40k and cloged traffic for quite some time on a few major highways.) My 93 King cab w/V6 is not that bad, but it hurts none the less with the current prices. My Grandmother (who I have been staying with while in cshool) drives a 2001 VW Jetta TDi. Automatic with AIR, and she STILL gets 800K to a tank that only costs $28 to fill! The only problem there, is a VW TDi is not cheep! Its the same problem as trying to buy a gas/elec hybrid... too pricey. As for the moment, my temporary solution is going to be a moped I think. (Actually, I've got a plan to build one that resembles a lowered/raked chopper, but thats another topic...) Not fast, and kind of goofy looking, but it'll help me same some gas money for the Z!

That was awsome! I saw a guy do that back in high school. this little punk was calling on a friend of mine, pushing him from behind, and my friend was just trying to walk away. Finaly, my friend just stopped, and all in one motion turned, dropped his school bag, and drove this guy right in the nose. "POP" you could hear the sound 30 feet away! lol.. guy droped like a bag of crap. didnt bother my friend any more though...

VIDEO CLIP OF CORZETTE IN A 12.47 at 112.4 PASS VS a 13.43

drooolllll.... very cool man... looked like a real good launch there! -
Well, I have been in trade school for the last month and a half, wondering where I'll be working when I finish school. See, my boss was told he has to move out of the space he's in right now because the factory wants to put THEIR machine shop back in there. So today I went to say hi and talk and I found out; He bought a farm property! Something like 110 acres, a house, garage, drive shed, and another building that .. fell down.. ?... He's planing on building a new building for the machine shop, but for now we are going to move all the machines and equipment/tools into the drive shed for a temporary shop while the new building gets built. My first thoughts where 'Cool.. lots of space to store things/cars, a place to work on vehicles INDOORS, ect." But the catch is, its a farm property; So until my bos gets the paperwork settled, and the new building up, Im actually gona be called a 'farm hand' for a while... (town wont technicaly let him run a machine shop in the existing building.. I dono..) And I just thought about something... it's gona be really HOT working in what is basicaly an old barn.. guess we'll have to buy some big fans... Oh well... it should be an interesting summer!

Car just dies when driving along
datsunlover replied to a topic in Trouble Shooting / General Engine
All I can think of (aside from the switch) is maybe the ignition coil is bad? Iv had it happen to me; one of the winding in the coil breaks, and after a while it heats up and breaks the conection, killing the ignition system. After a few mins, it cools down (wire contracts) and makes the conection again, and the car starts. -
Sounds like the AFM could be acting up... or maybe the TVS.. if its not reading at idle, the ecu might be getting confused and dumping in too much fuel. You could try disconecting it and starting the car; That should throw the computer in to a 'failsafe' or limp mode, where it runs on a pre-programed code instead of using the sensors to run the engine. It'll only let you rev to 2500 or so, but if it runs better (no more smoke) then it's probly the TVS... You'll probly be confused right now on 'what the heck is a TVS?' Throttle Valve Switch. Alot of ppl just call it a TPS (throttle position sensor) but it's not. It's just two switches in side.

Well, it's been my expiriance that after a major 'hit' of the sort this car would have had to take to require the stated type of work,AND the fact that it is now starting to fall apart, I would be wary of buying it.. For ex; I believe my truck was in a colision before I got it, and while it looks ok, it always has a pull to the right, and a slight shake/vibration at speed. No amound of work, alignment, or replacement parts will ever get my truck back to the way it should be. (no shaking or pulling) I've tried, trust me. After a vehicle has been hit, it's never the same again. Things wear out faster that they should, things flex/squeek, ect. Sure, anything can be fixed.. but to get this 300zx fixed AGAIN and properly this time, you'll probly have to spend a few $$$..

Looks ok.. but the top part looks as big as the 280 bumper.. which I dond really care for..
-
Yah I think if it was anything to do with the clutch, it would happen in any gear, and more often... if you hold your hand on the shifter when the noise happens, can you feel anything (vibration, shaking) through the shifter? Maybe a shift fork is bent/worn? I dono.. All my previous Z's made so many clunks and rattles I couldn't tell what came from where... I gave up and just lived with clunks and weird noises.

Clunking when brakes applied
datsunlover replied to Miles's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
I had the same thing happen on my old 85 200sx, and after checking evrything else I claked it up to pads shifting slighlty, just like Heavy85 said -
Cool man! I think I posted something about this a few months ago, as I had a similar idea.. I just didnt have the resources (read-money and guts) to do it to my car just yet! looking forward to seeing the final product. I have a whale tail just like yours and I was also a bit put off by the "visual' weight at the back of the car.. but I will live with it for now.

A guy in my class asked the teacher a question and he said "I know this is a stupid question but..." and the teacher said 'there are no stupid questions. Just stupid answers."

Tire Size and Gear ratio
datsunlover replied to RacerX's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
I was curious about this as well.. I got to thinking if I could swap in some gears/rearend with a little higher ratio, I could make my car a bit quicker on the street (just because of the mechanical advantage) without loosing the ability to cruise the highway... Anyone have a list of the rearend ratios that are/were offered for the Z's? -
Bad hesitation and miss after about 30% throttle.
datsunlover replied to RunNE1's topic in Trouble Shooting / General Engine
Sounds like the same prob I had in my 81 280zx. Turned out to be an injector on that one... Id look into getting them cleaned/replaced.. Or maybe for starters, check the little electrical conectors on the injectors. sometimes they start cracking from age or get coroded over time and dont make a good conection, which would cause the injector not to fire sometimes... -
I have a 9/16 wrench nic-named 'Ol burny' and its got a big black chunk burned out of it from something similar. I was tightening the main power lead on a starter, and touched the FRAME of the car. Yah, the other end was attached to the battry. Doh! Wow.. ouch.. and a lot of sparks! hee hee... We all do stupid things evry once in a while..

Well, a search should net you a whole whack of hit's if you type in 'brake upgrade' ..... I know there are a few swaps that can be done, and I guess the cheeper/common one is the toyota 4X4 caliper/84' 300zx vented rotor swap. I'm looking into doing this one soon (as soon as my Z is drivable that is!) You need a spacer behind the 300zx rotor, (not sure on thickness) and there is a ceartain number too look for on the toyota caliper (again, not sure on the number.. maybe someone else can chime in here with the actuall numbers?) but it apparently bolts right on to the Z. Im still wondering if this swap requires a master cyl. swap, or if it will work with the stock 280z M/C... Hmm... I'll go do a search to be sure, but if it's not out there already, could someone write up a FAQ and instal guide for the toy/300zx brake upgrade? Maybe get a sticky on it?

Well, I have a cat.. and I love that little bugger.. But I thought the cat/fan and the sunroof thing were hilarious! My girlfriend thinks they are both awfull.. oh well.. some people just have a diffrent sence of humor.. for instance, some people get really pissed of at this joke: "I got a tatoo the other day of an indian. I got it on my right arm.... and that arm hasnt worked since!" But I laughed... Heck, I told it to a friend of mine who's of indian decent and he cracked up! diffrent strokes for difrent folks..

14 inch diameter tire sizes
datsunlover replied to a topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Ive got the slotted mags and some Yoko' tires (bald and cracked) on there right now that are 195 65 14. yah, Im going to go with a 225 50 or 60 series.. depends whats closer to the factory size (overall hight.. I might go a bit smaller to help with acceleration slightly) And I was thinking of BFG's. Ive got them on my 93 King Cab.. )on 15" slotted mags too! heh heh..) and they are a good tire for street use IMHO. -
Drastic cutting done....sheild your eyes!!!!
datsunlover replied to EvilRufusKay's topic in Body Kits & Paint
Lookin good man! BTW.. I just tryed to go back to the link (to bookmark it) but it wont let me back in.. says its locked... ?? -
Well.. I don't know if this is feasible for you, but I just used the 280zx dizzy/stock black box. SIMPLE to wire up, and seams reliable.. I have an MSD box I picked up that I was GOING to use, but decided to just try the stock 280zx dizzy by itself... just a thought.

I know the feeling man. Driving an ol' Z get ALL kinds of looks. When I picked up my Z last summer, I remember this one guy staring at my car as I passed him. It looked like crap (well, I guess good from 30 feet away though) and wasnt running well, but I pulled away from a green light and happened to look over to the left: Heres this guy in a flashy looking little import, and hes just STARING at my car! Jaw on the floor, almost stoped in the middle of the intersection! I gave him a smile, the nod and proceded to mash the throtle to the floor. A good feeling.. till 30 seconds later when it died/sputtered and I had to pull off the road for some "tinkering under hood". But I was still feeling all proud of myself with my Z!
