Any experience with BFG Radial T/As????
datsunlover replied to a topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Hmm.. I had a set of TA's on my 85 200sx and that car handled great! Mind you, i didn't autoX it or track race, but on the street, just riping around town, they held pretty good.. The car wasn't that fast, but I drove the hell out of it! -
Lets see.. at this point, rust is faster than my Z.. But my 93 King Cab holds her own with the 3.0L v6 + Auto w/power shift... Kill list.. lets see.. -countless Civics with fart cans -Ford Focus ZX3 (kid figured he was fast.. Makes me feel good to know my 10+year old truck will take a 2003 SPORT model car!) -Ford Focus ZTW (my buddy just bought this WAGON and was pretty cocky about how quick it was. It pulled pretty good, but I slowly walked away in the end. Then we both realized we were doing 150+ in an 80 zone. End of race! BTW, it was 2AM no trafic, good weather...still ) -Cavilier Z24 (an older one with the 3.1.. those things are actually pretty fast! I started walking buy him and then he gave up.. ) -went neck&neck with a 5.0 Stang till about 120k (rolling start from about 60K, I got the drop on him but being out front didn't last long!) -93-94 Chev Pickup w/305 auto (I honestly though he was gona get me.. probly just messin with me.. ) The sad part is, even when I get the Z going, it's gona be stock for a while.. so Im gona get spanked by ...uh... CIVICS!! AAAHGGGGGG!!!!

Well, I'm looking at my VB book here, but it doesn't say anything about the LSD... I would suspect it may have one, seeing as it's the turbo.. Although from what I see, that car would have been built sometime in early to mid 86. (I assume your 1S2367 is actually 152367. A 5 and S look almost the same sometimes on a little VIN tag..) I'm not sure.. Does anyone know for sure what year the LSD's started going in these things?

Ok, I forwarded you the most recent one I've recieved.

KEY STUCK IN IGNITION!!!(no time for search.. in a rush)
datsunlover replied to a topic in Ignition and Electrical
I didn't know why at the time, but when I had my first Z (81 280zx) someone had already done something like this to my ignition. I could start that car with a screwdriver, my house key...heck, I used a popsicle stick one day! But I have even had this issue with my 93 King cab! I don't wana think about what THAT's gona cost me to replace! The few times it's happened to me in my truck, I just fiddled/cursed at it/played around until it came out. -
Yes, this past weekend was AWSOME!! I was out in my portable garage (kinda acts like a green house..very warm) ..welding in a T shirt! Got the drivers door bottom done, and almost finished the passenger rocker. Getting back to looking like a car ... unlike when I picked it up and started the ripping apart/rebuilding... My friend looked at me and said "Lots of car on this rust!" Oh well. Still hoping to get it going for July/August! If I do, we'll have to get together Glen.. so I can prove Iactually DO own one of these!

Just curious why I can't log in from my e-mail anymore? What I mean is, when I get a PM, I recieve an email notice. If I click the link, it takes me to a log in page prompting me for my Username and password. I enter it, but nothing happens. It just pops up the log in page again. I have to close the window, open a new one, and log in from the main page. I used to be able to do this with the old site.. is it not possible anymore with this new site? Just wondering. It's not a huge problem (I can still log in, like I said) but I wanted to ask. Thanks.

Im sure I saw a post a few months back about this, but the search turns up nothing. I need all the rubber around the door's (the one that attaches to the body) on my 75 280z. Someone here had mentioned that they found a cheaper/beter fitting alternative to MSA or VB (really$$$!!) ,and they gave a part number for McMaster Carr. Does anyone know about this? See, my boss orders stuf from them like twice a week and if I had a Pt# I could just get him to add it to one of his orders. Thanks guys.

Just an idea for signal lights.. I was in a wrecking yard a few weeks ago and saw something that might work.. it's an old AMC... Pacer maybe? (like in the 'Wanes World' movie) and the front signals look to have the same angle/curves... but they are on the top of the bumper. You'd have to take the left one, flip it over, and put it on the right, and vice-versa. Just a thought.

Gona install (eventually) an MSD 6400 w/rev limiterr and 280zx Dizzy (If I hear back from the guy I want to buy it of....) on my 75 280z. I figured I'd use my stock coil for now.. but do I need the ballast, or can I do away with it? Thanks
-
Hey sorry.. But when I got here today, it was a little weird... and I didn't see any highlighted icon signifying 'New Posts' on the Announcment forum.
-
Ok... the site is all messed up and stuf.. I got two emails today saying I have recived new private messages. Unfortunatly, the link (from my Hotmail) goes to 'page cannot be found' . I assume because the page is gone due to the crash of the new site. So If the ppl who sent me a private message read this post, could you please sent me another PM!! Im waiting to hear from..... I think his name is Doug... (I THINK his screen name is 71240zt) I think the site changeover messed up a reply he made to one of my posts, and may have put the wrong date on it or something... FYI I made a wtb post in the BUY/TRADE/SELL forum, and he replied with everything I wanted, and for a good price! So as you can see, I REALLY need to get in touch with him!
-
Ok.. I gather the new site crashed... so why did I get two new e-mail's today, saying I have 2 new private messages? But I can't get to any new messages... cause the new site is toast I supose..
-
Ok.. so this is actually here again? I thought it was in my head or something... got to thinking I found some remnant of the OLD site somehow.. but evrything is all messed up.. This sucks... when did the new site crash?

Ok.. just bought a used MSD 6400 box, and a soft touch rev control box attached to it. Its got a 6000rpm plug in it, so that should work for me (if my stock 2.8 will even hit 6 grand! First off, what do I do to make this work on my Z? There are two wires looping out of the rev control box; grey and red. Which one do I cut to 'tell' the box I'm running a 6 cylinder? (the guy I bought it from was running a 350 V8 in a stock car, so no wires have been cut) I didn't get an owners manual with it so I am a little stuck. Also, I found some instructions how to wire MSD using a 280zx dizzy (someone from this board, sorry cant remember who ) but was wondering if I could just use my stock 280z dizzy? I have that stupid dual pickup, so I guess I'd have to hack into it, and just wire ONE pickup to the MSD box... anyone know?

Mikuni carbs from a snow machine? (sorry. Im carb-illiterit)
datsunlover replied to datsunlover's topic in Fuel Delivery
Just wanted to drag this one back from the bottom of the forum... I talked to a buddy of mine who is really into snowmobiles. And he brought up a few interesting points. In a 2 stroke sled, the fuel requirements are about 2-3 times that of a 4 stroke because they fire twice as often, and ussually spin faster (between 6 and 10 000 RPM) With that in mind, I did some quick figuring in my head.. Take say... an 800cc 2 stroke that has twin 40mm carbs. Now if that engine was twice the size(1600cc), but a 4 stroke, those carbs would probly still supply enough fuel. Makes sence so far.. (I had an 85 Honduh CRX; 1.5L with a tiny carb... it worked well..) Then I figured, my 2.8 will never spin much past 6000RPM, so these carbs from an 800cc twin sled might be workable! What do you guys think? Am I just talking out my a$$ here? Feel free to just tell me to shut the hell up! -
Actually, No Nic, you wouldn't need to keep your foot on the throttle. There is a switch in the AFM that cuts power to the pump when the flap closes, but if it is open even a little (like when the engine is running and sucking air in; at idle or higher rpm's) the pump will run. Now as for the pump running continuisly with the engine not on, there might be something wrong there... that's the same thing mine does.. but my wiring has been hacked/re-wired by the previous owner, so I have a lot more things to look into. Id try to locate a relay for your pump... maybe a short somewhere?
-
Yah, I've noticed that plate.. (?) and other odd things that are probly a 'throw-back' from the older cars. Anyway, thanks for the info guys!
-
I have a similar set up (thanks to the previous owner of my car ) and my pump runs constantly now. I'd be interested in the solution to this too! I think this 'hot wiring' has affected other things too.. I have the dredded 'bogging/sputtering over fueling a$$hole datsun' problem too...
-
Um, sorry.. could someone move this post to a more apropriate forum please? I don't think it belongs in here.. I don't know that I was thinking!
-
I would think there would be a point where the chain would be loose enough to throw the timing (advance or retard) all over.. but at this point, it might jump a tooth, which will really mess with the timing! Get a service manual and check the spec on it.. it should say how much play/slop is allowable.

Hey guys, I need to know if the SU carbs and manifold (says will fit 240/260) will bolt on to the L28 in my 75' 280z? Are there any diferences in the intake ports between carbs and FI engines? I want to bid on this, but don't ant to find out it is useless to me... BTW this is just something I want to get the car going for next year. My stock FI is all messed up, and eventually, I will swap in a 302/5 speed w/FI anyway. Anyone got concrete answers on these carbs/manifold?

What should I do next to my car have a $ 1000.00
datsunlover replied to DAT240Z's topic in Turbo / Supercharger
Well, I would say fix the rust and paint it first.. it runs and drives fine right? And the stock turbo set up would be pretty quick as it is ( I assume...) So it's a toss up... BUT! (ther's always a but!) The catch here is if you can't do body work yourself, then the $1000 isn't gona go very far in regards to rust/paint work. and if going faster is your goal, Bastaad's aproach is probly the way to go. -
Well, I've been looking for a while to trade/sell my 93 King cab and get a 4x4 Pathfinder. (2 wheel drive is fun, but can SUCK in the winter here...) And I think I found a good deal. Here's the rundown on a 92 Pathfinder: 275 K, 3.0V6 runs awsome, 5 speed (that makes all kinds of noise because it needs a clutch/throwout bearing) overall decent looking truck. Rust on the rear of both rockers, and a bit on bottom of the tailgate. Brakes were done 8 months ago, along with the fuel/brake lines and tie-rod ends. Brand new starter and rad, decent tires all around. The guy has just bought a newer Pathfinder, and just wants to off this one quick I guess... Cause the advert. said '$2000 Or best offer' but when I got there, he told me (before I even asked!) he was negotiable on the price. I'm thinking of offering him $1400 and doing the clutch myself seeing as it's only $260 for a new clutch kit! What do you guys think, should I be wary of anything about Pathfinders? Anything I sould look out for? And before anyone says it, Im aware this is a year OLDER than my truck, and yes it has a few more K's on it, but I figure being 4X4, it will always have good resale value. And I will have the ability to carry more passengers, but still flip down the seats and haul.. 'stuf' you know? Anyway, feel free to throw out advice, comments, dissagreement, ect.

Yah, FWD kinda sucks.. but it's still kinda fun in the parking lots! I take my girlfriends car out sometimes (2002 Grand Am) and pull the hand brake/do reverse dounuts. She hates it though. Gets her all uptight! And yah, watch out for those light poles.. they jump out at ya sometimes!
