I agree that it can easily get out of hand. It's like a 'workplace environment' in a sence; Some places like a garage, factory's, ect, all you'll hear is just a swear after another. "Aww stupid *$^ng piece of #&$", and so on. Its just how ppl talk. Other places, Car dealership's, office's, ect, the language is toned down to the ocasional 'oh $&!*' or something. And this board IS just a bunch of guys hanging around talking cars. Somebody is going to get ofended from time to time, and theres no stopping that. BUT, I am all for the 'toning down' ... think of it like this; If someone curses/swears all the time or a lot, it becomes comonplace. No one takes notice and might not realise how upset someone actually is. If someone refrains from profanity 90% of the time, when the DO curse/swear, it is taken more seriously. It is 'understood' that because they are cursing they are quite upset about the topic. Just my $.02

Well, he sent me a PM (or maybe it was an e-mail.. can't remember) for the carbs/intake he advertized there.. But luckily I found what I was looking for localy, (well, a few hours away) and for a better price too. I asked him for a price on shipping, but I never heard back from him... I just had a funny feeling about it too, so I probly wouldn't have sent money anyway. It suck's that ppl do this crap.. I know what it's like to get stiffed for cash dealing with cars/parts. It took me a year to get $800 out of a guy once (in 1-200 instalments avery few months... ) Hope you get your money/parts man.

My boss has an 87 with the 2.3 L engine. What a discusting pig of a motor! His is always doing similar things... But the local garage can't figure it out. Hmm.. it starts and idles fine? I'm thinking maybe it's something to do with the ignition/advance system.. but check the fuel filter first.. has it got the distributor? or is it coil pack/electronic or something?

Hmm.. I've driven a few real nice cars over the years.. Lets see; Late 80's twin turbo RX7; Nothing off the line, but holy crap it moved good after 5000rpm! 94 VW Corrado 1.8 S/C with a few mods; Really quick car, amazing interior (leather, power, ect) and the cool "auto spoiler" that pops out after 80Kph Glens V12 240Z (yah.. I dono why, but he let me drive it! ) Wow... holy monkey that was FUN! 70(?) Detomaso Pantera; Didn't drive this one, but went for a fun ride! 92 Izuzu Impulse AWD 1.6 turbo; Man these are WICKED fast little cars! Not much to look at, but with minor tweeking my buddy got about 350Hp out of his! (Im serious too MINOR tweek: Manual boost control. BIG IC. thats it!) I can't touch him in my V6 King cab. At all! Theres lots mor.. but none come to mind right now!

Funny... I have lots of similar thoughts on this.. After the past few months welding up my Z, I came to the realization that "If I crash this car and anything over say.. 40 MPH, I'm really gona get hurt..cause it's gona fold up around me,," At that point, I welded in a subframe of .100 wall 2.5" square tube. In adition to that, I am going to weld a tube across the front bumber-shocks and paint it black; I like the no front bumper look, but I have visions of my hood coming through the window if I hit something with my front end! And as for mods, the first one on my list is definatly front brakes! And before I take my engine past stock performance (or drop in the 302 I want..) I am going over the entire suspension system and replacing..well, probly evrything! I have been in a few crashes, and in LOTS of 'near misses' (one just last night in my truck) and I fully understand what can happen in an emergency situation if your vehicle isn't "up to par". I need front brakes on my truck, and I was lucky enough last night to slow down in time (rear end was starting to drift around ) and I missed the moron turning left in front of me, but not by much!

Well, it's good to weld.. but before I had the know how/cash to pay a welder I had to fix the floor's in a few cars, (two Z's in there..) and some sheet metal rivited in place works quite well. Cut out the rusted metal, wire wheel the spots that still have surface rust, then cut a patch to fit with 2" or so overhang. With plenty of rivits, and then a good thick application of tar over the patch, it does the trick. No good for exterior areas, but this will work well on the floor pan and iner wheel well. Keep in mind though, as Tim pointed out, Z's have a unibody.. meaning if the rust has eaten the floor, and is starting on the tranny tunel or rockers, it will need more than sheet metal patch panels and tar. You really need to pull up the carpet, interior panels and see how much rust is hiding in there. Then figure out where to start! That is, if you want to do it yourself. I have found though, when you pay a shop to do this kind of work, they hack it and do a $hitty job. So a few years later, the car is actually WORSE off than it was. I was rebuilding my rad saddle one day and a 'profesional' body man came by to look at it.. He said "Heck man... why are you doing it the hard way? Just put the new metal right over the old rusted stuf, and tar it up man! Takes a while for it to rust through that way." Yah. That's what the last shop did to my car (8 years ago) and it is a nightmare for me now. Just check out the shop good if you're gona pay someone else to do it.

Oh ya, I forgot there's power steering sometimes... Mine doesn't have it (75 280z) but a lot more 280zx's did. I can see that getting in the way a bit too... I had an 81 with P/S but never had to do the Alt.
-
Should just be able to pull/flex the rad hose out of the way, and pull the alt towards the rear of the engine bay.. It may take some fliping over/fiddling to get it out..

Accord Springs To Your Z's (pix inside)
datsunlover replied to Toysport's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
So you don't have to mod anything? they just slide on? Cool.... -
Where I used to live (a basement appt) I had a two car drive way. My truck, and a friends car would take care of that.. so when I had ppl over, someone would block the end of my drive, and others would park in front of the house nextdoor.(not blocking his driveway though) Wow.. that bitter farkwad of an old frenchman next door ever get IRATE! "Holy lord.. I never seen so many cars parked here.. why you gota park in front of my house anyway?!? I'm gona call the by-law! Raghwrwaskhsjfha;so!" He'd tell me to park on the other side of my driveway. Yah. Block in the tenant upstairs from me, obstruct the FIRE hydrant... sure. This guy actually B!tched at me for shoveling the snow out of my driveway, because it was gona get pushed into his driveway when the plow truck came by. (he owned two snowblowers BTW!) Told me if I kept up shoveling that way, he'd get his snowblower and 'Put it all back in my drive'. Some ppl are just A$$holes who have no other purpose on this planet than to piss US off!

Thats retarded man... Sucks that it can happen right on your street like that Glenn.. I'd say you should move up here, but it can get.uh... rowdy sometimes too! Although.. I don't think anyone has been murdered here in over 2 years.. and the last one was because of a similar problem; two guys (19-20) got into a fight over a GIRL, and one ended up getting stabed to death.

Disaster at the Kelly house! Someone testdrove the mustang..
datsunlover replied to Mikelly's topic in Non Tech Board
See.. thats why I don't let ppl 'test drive' any vehicle Im selling if Im not around. And for starters, I take them out for a drive with ME driving first. I let a guy drive a car I was selling once, and the fool sat on a hill BURNING the clutch. Actually held the car on the hill for 45 seconds or so, then slowly pulled away. I'm yelling at him "Hey! What are you doin!!!", burnt clutch smell fills the car, and he looks at me.. snifs the air.."Hey... thats not right man.. something wrong with your car dude...." What an A$$hole. After that, I never let ppl drive my vehicles unless I'm SURE they know what they are doing. That sucks about your car/house man.. hope it works out for you. -
any way to say nice things about sellers on the sell forum ?
datsunlover replied to waynekarnes's topic in Non Tech Board
Yah, I like the sounds of that too. I bought carbs/maifold and a dizzy from a member here, and I was really happy with the deal. I was a little woried at first sending money.. but I got the package, and evrything was just like it was described. -
Yah, I typed out a long post the other night (took about 20 mins cause I type real slow) and when I went to post it, I had to log back in. I saved it buy clicking the back button a few times and copying my post, then loging in again and pasteing it in. It is kind of a pita to do it that way though...

Yah I have, but I don't know if it would look good on the Z... The 1st gen supras didn't have nice round wheel arches, they were sorf of squared off... It might look a little weird on a Z..

Hmm.. does your dizzy have a vacume advance on it? Might be an issue there...

Ok, well my pump is looking pretty ugly anyway, and I was thinking of replacing it no mater what. What did your holly pump cost you? As for the carbs, that sound good to me! I spent tonite cleaning them and they seam in really good shape. I hoping to just replace the gaskets, bolt them on and go. Just wondering... what should the initial setting be for these carbs?

Ok, I have two round top SUs w/maifold on their way to me (I hope) that I'm gona use to replace my dying/PITA stock FI. Im probly gona throw a rebuild kit on them (depending how bad they look) or at the very least, take apart and clean evrything real good. First question, will I need to put diffrent jets/? in the carbs to run them on my stock L28 (I think they came off a 260z) If so, what should I put in? Sorry guys, Im a bit of a newbie with carbs, but it's cheaper for me right now to get my car going on some carbs. (Evryone and their brother can fiddle with carbs. Who can figure out the stock FI anymore?!?) Second Q; I'm thinkin of retaining the stock fuel pump out back, and running like so; Pump--filter--in line presure regulator---carb--carb--return Does this look right? Or am I missing something?

Spent My Last Dollar on Car Mags!!! RANT!!
datsunlover replied to EvilRufusKay's topic in Non Tech Board
I agree. Thats why I like shows like 'Monster Garage' and 'American Chopper' Those are more reality based, and you see them doing the work, F'ing it up, or whatever. The only mags I buy are 'buy/trade/sell' or MSA, VB type catologes. Evrything else is just full of the crap you mentioned... although there is the ocasional good looking girl leaning on a car... -
Rims AGAIN???? Not quite...
datsunlover replied to a topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Um first CNC wheel lathe in Canada? Hmm.. I dono about that.. Is it ment specifically for automotive wheels? Not that it maters I guess... just doesn't sound right to me.. But the one off set of rims sounds cool! And heck, it's hard to get a decent set of rims for that $$ new anyway! -
Well, there's a chain in Canada called Canadian tire. (ussually called Crappy tire by most ppl) This is going back about 2 years now.. Matt Vs CT 'Kid behind the counter' Me: I need rear rotors and pads for an 85 200sx, 4 cyl, 5speed 2.0L non turbo. Kid; Hmm.. (hit's some buttons) well.. the shoes are $XX, and the drums are $XX Me; Uh.. what? I said rotors and pads. It's rear disk. Kid; No it's not. Computer says it's drums. Me; well, it's rear disk. Trust me. I can show you right now, it's outside in the parking lot! (I'm getting a little pissed now..) Kid; Well.. did you modify it then? You must have, cause it's not suposed to have rear disk's. Me; NO, I did not modify my 85 200sx. This is the way I bought it. This is the way some of them were built. Look... check your listing for the 1.8 Turbo model 200sx. Kid; Ok.... (click click..) Well, it has a listing for rear drum's AND disk.. but I don't think they will fit your car.. Me; Order them. It's the same damn car. I have LOTS of storys like this one. Evrything from getting the wrong parts, to being told 'That doesn't exist'. It never ends!

Rubber weather striping around door..
datsunlover replied to datsunlover's topic in Miscellaneous Tech
Uh.. as for the corner (top/rear of the door/window chanel) I was thinking of cutting the ends where they meet on a 40-45* angle and gluing them.. would that work? -
Man.. you're putin in an LS1 in there? Hmm... you should keep it all BMW. Just kidding man, that will be an awsome hybrid!

Rubber weather striping around door..
datsunlover replied to datsunlover's topic in Miscellaneous Tech
As for the flat parts, I was going to carefully cut my stock ones off (they're still good) and glue them to new stuf. I was wondering to about how the McMaster Carr stuff worked? Thanks for the info man!
