Um, actually, I don't think it's an 'Urban Legend' I live in Canada, and it may be different in the states. A friend of mine told me about paying too much and not cashing the refund check, because he DID IT!
-
That just sucks A$$ man! I hope it turns up. I've heard of a few ppl over the years bringing cars from BC over to Ontario, as they are ussually in better/less rusted shape. May be this is what's going on.. if there has been a rash of thefts going on in the past little while..
-
Hell.. half the time if you fight it, the cop wont even show up for the court date, and you get off! I dono about the states.. but apparently in ontario, if you get a ticket.. say $120 or something, if you send them a check/money order for slightly more.. say..$121, they will sent you a refund for overpayment. Then, all you do is NEVER cash the check! Apparently, this keeps the ticket from being put on your record, and it keeps it off your drivers abstract. (so the ins. co. doesnt ever know) Something about it still being 'procesed'.. basicaly, stuck in the system. Just what I have heard..

"now.. really folks... I have absolutly no clue what is going on."

Yes.. the bleeding thing... a good friend told me this.. "Don't trust anything that bleeds for 5 days, and DOESN'T DIE!"

That was awsome! The only one I didn't know was the Pugeo (sp?) But I called each race and was right on 4 out of 5.. always liked those first gen Rabit GTi's.. And my friend just bought a Fuckus.. I mean, uh, focus.. and it's peppy.. but no Cosworth ralley car! -
I was draging my butt through this afternoon, and my mind went of on it's own for a bit... started thinking about building a custom intake manifold to run twin carbs. (sort of a backup plan if I can't get the FI fixed/working properly) I've heard not so good things about the aftermarket 4bbl intake, like starving #1 and #6, and generally running rich/poor. So I thought.. why not something similar, but with twin 2bbl carbs? I don't think it would be too difficult to build.. or even mod/hack up the stock FI intake? Here's what I'm thinking; A block off plate (for the throttle body) and some holes tig'd up (injector bungs) than mill a flat on the top ot the intake, and dril/mill out the 'footprint' of the carbs. I would think this would be easier to balance the air/fuel, and probly be a better matched setup on a 2.8L, compared to a huge 4bbl. Im gona do some reserch on carbs and so on, but does anyone have any thoughts about this?

Would U Buy This $1200 Linc. Mk. VIII - Read The Description
datsunlover replied to slownrusty's topic in Non Tech Board
WTF!!! I can't believe they actually gave the whole name of the movie!!! But you know what? If I had the cash, I'd buy something like that. Change/clean the interior, and turn a profit! Its got pretty low mileage, and looks good in the picture... Still funny as $hit though! -
early 300ZX fuel injection on 280ZX turbo engine? SleeperZ?
datsunlover replied to cbuczesk's topic in Fuel Delivery
Just curious.. has anyone used the Z31 ecu/harness/sensors to run a Non turbo 2.8 motor? (like whats in my 75 280z for instance..) I am trying to figure out a way to get rid of that evil AFM, and was going to upgrade to a 280zx dizzy anyway.. Im sure it could be done.. just wondering if anyone has attempted it yet? I got to thinking of this because I know where a car is (waaaayyyy in the back of a wreckers) that I could pull evrything from... probly for $50. Any info floating around out there? -
Im sure you could get it to run with a 'MegaSquirt' system.. Im thinking of one for my Z, but I already have the FI motor. The simplest solution would probly be to buy a ford EFI motor .. with a vehicle attached to it, so as to get all the nessesary wiring/computer/sensors all in one shot.

That Blind melon song is called "No Rain" And yes, good $hit it is! I'd have to say everything by Nirvana (hell they started the 'grunge' thing..) And almost evrything from AIC.. Personally, a lot off the 'Facelift' album sound too much like Guns n' Roses.. yech.. never liked Axel's whining voice.. But hey, that was the eighties... Guys with big/long hair singing/screaching as if they were female..

Manual versus Automatic: Coupe vs 2+2
datsunlover replied to namz7791's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
I for one like to shift the gears.. but in a small car with a big V8, I'd go with the auto. Just from my experiance with my SBC RX7, it was still a blast to drive, and yes, definatly an easier swap process. I chose auto for a few reasons: I got an engine and 3 speed auto attached for.... well, dirt cheep. I originally wanted a standard, and actually bought a B/W 4 gear but finding the proper bell housing/master and slave cyl's and figuring out how to make it work... proved difficult. I sold that trany for $100 more than I payed for it so it worked out good! Also, as a few ppl told me (and I believed it in the end) it would be a little hard to 'hang on to' as a standard shift. Full out throttle going into second gear (that was about 70KPH) would break the rear loose. On dry pavement. Even having both hands on the wheel was barly enough to keep the car in control! IMO, throwing a standard shifter in that mix is a little much, and possibly too dangerous for the street. Keep in mind I am 3 months away from 25 years old, and don't know everything anymore.. wish I was 18 again. -

That was freakin brutal!! Man.. thous had to be like 50 mm rounds right? And those guys each got a few! Ouch... -
Ive got AFM checks in my album from a 1975 FSM. They might be of some help.

WTF?!?!?!?!?! How the hell did he do that?!?! Im thinking.. um.. let go of the brakes and steer your car?!? Man.. I used to do stupid $hit sometimes... but I never dit something that dumb!! Idiot... If that was my Jetta, that fool would be in a world of hurt..

Well, I have not decided the whole thing yet.. but for starters, I think I will buy back my RX7. Resons being: it's set up for the V8, I already put the time/money into the whole car (about $2500 as it sits) and I can get it back for about $350. I look at it like this: I didnt want to sell it in the first place, but had no where to store it. (well, no FREE storage, and no money to pay for storage) So if I spend $350 now, thats still less then what I would have had to pay to store it somewhere for the past year! I have not decided what I will do with the Z yet.. I could just give up and scrap it.. or part it out which could take long time..but Im leaning towards finishing it/getting it drivable and good looking for the summer. Maybe put it up for sale in mid summer when sports cars are worth more you know? And take next summer/winter to finish the RX. (this would mean sitting on the RX and not puting anything into it until the Z is mobile/sold) What do you folks think of that? Am I off my rocker? Should I just get rid of evrything and move into a cabin up in the bush and become a hremit? Hmm... decisions....

76 280z running really rich
datsunlover replied to speedstylez78's topic in Trouble Shooting / General Engine
Check the timing, and AFM for starters. Is is backfiring/bogging while driving? Could be the TVS as well. Oh yah, I have scaned AFM checks in my album if you need. -
Ouch man. I've done lots of silly things and hurt myself! About two months ago, I went to help my buddy load up a front and rear axle for his jeep. I picked up the front axle by the steering knuckle. He picked up the rotor/hub on the other end. As soon as we picked it up, the steering bar/drag link swung and pinched my left middle finger. Cut/pinched right beside the nail, and took out a 1/8" chunk off! (insert swearing here) Man I hate woundng fingers...

You know... your right! That makes no sence! I actually had that one too.. and of course the Semi-truck.. Optimus Prime? $hit... transformers.. more than meets the eye...

Im with Dan; the Z looks .. wrong as a convertable.. kind of reminds me of an Alfa spider.. but uglyer.. Id go for a ZX convertable.. they seam to pull it off better IMO. But the T-top's (if I remember corectly) were actually sold aftermarket for the original Z's and I think it would look good.

Someone should photoshop Sigourny Weaver's (sp?) head inside there...

we are all now 'stupider' for having read that... ... is 'stupider' a word? oh boy....

Just my $.02: As I mentioned in some previous posts, I put a SBC in an 85 Mazda RX7. The RX is about the same weight as the Z's, and there are a lot of similar 'issues' with stufing a V8 in where it dont' belong. That aside, heres my point. A STOCK chev 305 (the first motor I put in the RX) with a 4 BBL quadrabog carb, manifolds into 2" exhast, and a 3 speed auto trany, is not a 'big' power combo... But in a light little car it went like hell! I figured (by the ol' but-o-meter and a wrist watch) my RX was probably in the low 13's.. and the drivetrain was all STOCK. No motor build, no shift kit, no a/c or p/s. I would say buy a 'doner' vehicle with a good runing 350/trans and drop that in your Z first. Just because with all the other stuff that needs doing for this kind of swap, a motor build is a lot of extra work and time IMO. In the end, a stock chev drivetrain (say from a 3500lb Camaro) is going to have a HUGE power to weight ratio advantage in a light car, like a Z. Sorry.. thats like $.03 at least...

uh.. I wouldn't bother with it. It was never known to be a very good engine.. Volvo didn't use it very long, and they were plauged with problems/under-whelming power from what I've heard and seen. And a few head/other mods PLUS a turbo would get expencive IMO. I'd go for the volvo 2.3L Turbo motor. Only a 4 cyl, but very strong and easily modded for some power (IE; bump boost, open up the intake and exhast, ect) and Volvo used this motor for years. There should be plenty more of these around then the V6.
