I know, I know...that's an ugly ol' AMC...however, the hotrod is giving me fits...sometimes runs great and then starts skipping, then runs fine, etc....The nice officer who just stopped me for sounding like a race car (go figger ) was sympathetic and let me go with a verbal. Darn, Shannan....that's the PITS!!! Sorry to hear that...you sure you have the TV cable adjusted right? it should be hooked to the part of the carb linkage on the opposite end (bottom) of where the throttle cable is attached so when you pull the throttle back, the TV cable should be pulling toward the front of the car. Was the trans built by a reputable shop or a private citizen? Wayne

I'm with ledphoot, Shannan...it shouldn't shift hard if you have it set up correctly with some w-i-d-e bends in the cable....speaking of cable...be VERY careful how you set up the TV system on the 700R4! The TV system is what runs the line pressure to your entire transmission...if it isn't right, you will fry it the first time you jump on it. The best way to do it is to set it up where you can push the adjustment button and push the slider all the way toward the rear of the car. Get in the car (of course you have already made sure that the carb opens all the way when you floor it) and step on the gas all the way to the floor a couple of times. You should have heard the slider click as it moved out toward the front of the car. The intent here is to make sure that the very second you step on the gas, the TV will move and give instantaneous line pressure. If you need to, give me a call..... Wayne

Ok, gang, I'm back in business...just picked up the hotrod, took a test drive, have all the gears and I'm a happy camper!!! Kudo's to Richard Godley and his folks for busting their butts to get the car back to me...actually in 2.5 days!! For those kinda local folks who don't know, he is a national level Super Gas racer who has also been building racing transmissions for about 142 years or so. ) Hopefully, he won't read this thread...) Update...cautiously optimistic...transmission folks say I may be up and running with the 4L80E by Tues evening....I have everything crossed...(we-e-e-l-l-l-l-l-l, not EVERYthing) that we can pull this off. If not, powerglide it is. By the way, I just thought of something... RIP/John/Jerry...If I don't need my PG, I will bring it in case somebody else does for some reason....it's a Godley-built 182 with 3800 stall converter set up for nitrous W/a bracket brake. I believe it will take some abuse..Godley builds a good trans. Anyway, keep things crossed...) Wayne
