  1. I rebuild these as I have cores available.Hard Parts and needed Items are drying up and make this a more pricey trany to go thru now. I can take 3-4 cores to make a good unit. My units are used in restorations as they look as new when finished .Not painted. Steve contacts thru < stevenehlers77@gmail.com >

  4. Hey , If still looking I have a set . Steve Rising Sun Performance The "Z car Experts" of Texas
  5. 4.38 a Drag car . Ha ! Try 5.13 if you want some real gear !! Even though the 3.90 R-200 came in the 280 Zx and they are drying up too, you would have to get a LSD unit for it . You also could buy a 1988 300 ZX turbo 3.70 and use it as is or the LSD in it ,or your back to trying to find a Racer's spare diff. Out of all my Vintage 240 Z car Racers, spares are non existent in the diff dept .What they have they use from track to track . The last poster to the wanted ad mentioned finding a Subby LSD diff for $500 and the axles for 400 ,so he was into it at $900. I see those come up on sleezebay occasionally .
  6. Rare parts to be looking for these days. You are the 2nd in a week looking for a R-180 3.90 diff and LSD if your throwing it in ,as I recall the poster said ..... Since the 3.90 was never a USA street car application ,the Datsun Competition Dept used to be the only source 40 years ago. Now there are people using the Suby 4 wheel drive front diffs(same as Nissan uses) and they have a 3.90 .Problem is you have to source a new set of stub flanges I'm told . I have not dealt with anything other than the Nissan street car and Datsun comp diffs ,so I can't comment. I believe two different people have made the modified parts. The Datsun 4x4 trucks have 4.38 if you want to get some real gear in your car !
  7. I assume you know about and your going to do the necessary machine work to make it work ? I have tons of the Bell housings in various conditions .Shipping seems to be a USA hold back to out of the states .
  8. As long as you have flange type Half shafts ,everything s a bolt it ,including the drive shaft flange. Early cars had a straight not curved rear suspension connector link. The diff was a few inches forward in the car and cleared the rear cover. However when they found severe drive line vibration with the angled back half shaft ,especially on lowered cars ,and race cars especially ,that made Nissan relocate the diff back a couple inches to straighten the half shaft geometry out of the diff. but required the curved link to clear the rear cover. That also caused the mustache to be turned around but is also has a curve to it also. Your car is ready to accept what ever Z diff you want to install .
  9. On a Zx there isn't anything to change in this swap other than installing the Only available rear mt that goes bad and is now the only available part for the R-200 for a ZX . In a 240 depending on the year the R-200 was the best and had been the most plentiful used Nissan Diff available in 3.90. Only on the 70 and 71 to relocate the diff to the late preferred position mounting do you need a mustache bar and rear suspension curved joiner link . 72 and 73 cars should be a bolt in as they have these parts we need and use for early cars.
  10. Hey , No US Nissan 720 has ever had a 3.90 ft diff . 79-82 4x4 have 4.38 and the 83 on up have 4.11.... The 810's had a 3.70 R-180 ... The 3.90 for the 81-83 Zx's is the way to go depending on what car your putting this in. I have a customer 3.90 LSD in the shop now for complete refreshing that he is using in CVAR. If your racing and need a 4.38 I have a couple open units that are being refreshed in a few weeks for sale. LSD units are hard to com by .The Suby unit works with some USA made stubs, but have never worked with that unit. Just the smaller R-160 in 510's ,etc.... I'm doing an upgrade to a 79 slick top ZX that has a 3.36 (gag) R-180 in it now. We are putting the R-200 3.70 from an 1980 model in it. Steve
  11. mtnickle - Let me know what yard to make sure it is the same for future reference .The 3.90 he had shipped in has a broken gear in it . The yard that sold it was a rip off since it was stuck on the drain plug magnet ,easily seen - And should have been seen by them before they shipped it ! It had a leaky pinion seal and side seal leakage also ! Junk parts are getting to be normal now when you ask for a used major assembly. You used to be able to find good diffs locally without problems ,but our local Z car wrecker yard has retired and is not buying savage cars.I see me possibly taking up the slack in the near future . Steve
  12. No, Sorry don't need a 300 ZX diff with out a factory installed Flange(That is too big for the Stock 280 driveshaft. .Technically it is useless now due to pre load requirement of a non original flange that would have to be installed . I throw units away that are comparable. Nissan diffs that require a seal change can be accomplished by the knowledgeable tech ,however all bets off now on your unit .My customer sourced the 3.70 for his other car, a slick top 79 ZX from the South Texas yard .Perfect and no leaks and Correct flange with stub flanges ready to install !
  13. I have a New NOS set in the boxes . Let me know . Steve
  14. Oil Coolers are not needed or wanted unless you have really high oil temps. 200 degrees is best for lubrication and least drag internally. I would only use it if my temps exceeded 205-210 F .... This is assuming your just talking a Street car ,but this is the guild lines we use on our raced Z cars in C production . Steve
  15. Hey , I just came across your posting here. Seems you have tried to do this over some time . Sure would be easier to copy a set then to make them from scratch from photos as you have talked about. I actually have a set of NOS in the boxes Never installed. I also have an extra trim ring for one side. I had not made a decision to install them on my Z as of several years ago but since then I determined I will go ahead along will the NOS European Tail Lamps ,to go with my European bumpers and Fairlady emblems I have for my '77 280 Z ,also NOS. I don't know if I want to reproduce or copy what I have but I would be in a better position now than you are .I also have the instruction sheet(of course it is in Japaneses) and there is also a drill template as I recall. I had installed a set on a friends car many years ago and have a few extra pieces besides my New Set. As I recall somebody has already made reproductions in the recent past. Steve
