It just got even WORSE... AGAIN (compression test done)
EvilRufusKay replied to a topic in Turbo / Supercharger
I used to work on Contours when I was a Ford tech. One of he most problematic cars they ever built. DON'T DO IT. Your car can be fixed. The Ford could and probably would take a dive on you after you get it. That would be enough to put anybody over the edge!! Keep working at your car. I know it's easy to say from here but you will be much happier when you figure it out. You said you had new rings put in and you have lower compression in ALL cylinders now? Did you do the work your self? If so did you hone the cylinder walls? Did you seat the rings prior to running the engine? -
The supercharged one sounds better. The non-supercharged one sounds eh.....not so good. I guess I am used to my V8 though. They don't post any data to back up the claims they make. Unless I missed it. I would like to see one in person. Cool idea if it works out though.

A simple solution is one my dad used when he wanted to buy something. He would get a crappy part time job at night for a couple of hours, maybe just a few days a week, and it was agreed by my mother that he could use that money for whatever he wanted. I do this as well but I do side jobs like brakes, or motor swaps for friends that don't have the skills. Got tools? Make money!!!

Guys please don't take this the wrong way but....what is going on with all the political advertisement? I come to this site to learn about how I can beef up my Z not to be subjected to commercials. If someone can advertise for a politician in their sig block does that mean I can advertise for something I want to sell? Someting eles that is non z related? Perhaps a religion or a Anti-Abortion logo? Please be assured I am not trying to cause trouble as I LOVE THIS SITE!! I am just trying to understand the "rules" as well as the thought process that is involved. Thannk You Rufus

Thanks for the info Eric!! I am definatley interested in a kit but not a finished project. I was under the impression that the kit was about the same price as the Vella Rossa around $3900.00 with out the emmenities. Is this anywhere close? How do you get on a wait list to order one? I am sure a deposit is required and I am willing to do that I just wonder about a turn around time etc. I guess I will have to wait for the form to appear on your website? Thanks for your time!! Do you guys have a problem with the wipers lifting off the windshield @ highway speeds?

ON3GO, Did you get your air dam on? I want to install the same thing on my 280 and was wondering how hard it would be. Did you end up drilling into the fender?

Do you know if there are any of these complete Tomahawk kits available? I read on the web that the company is not producing them at the moment. Do you have any info about them? Thanks!!

I drove my Z today for the first time with the windows up. The exaust smell was pretty much gone!!! I opened the window and immediatly got blasted with that old familar stench!!! Like I said before my rear hatch sill has a good size hole on the drivers side and my seal is pretty much non existant. I now lean in the direction of just wind turbulance blowing it back in the windows. I work at a lab and sometimes do testing at a local wind tunnel. I think I will try to bribe the guy that runs it next time I go and blow fog over it at a wind velocity of 30-60 mph. If I can I will take some dig. pics and post them. That is if it's not snowing by then!!!!!! I by the way was not offended -
Dan, Beautiful car Man!!! You are an inpiration!!! I have two questions if you have the time..... First what is the make of the wheels that used to be on your car? I have identical ones on my 280 but can't figure out the make. Second you said your rear 1/4's are yz with a subtle z lip? Could you expand on that? I am getting ready to buy a kit from John and would love to know a little more. I appreciate it.....looking forward to seeing the final.

Can I pull the trans. and leave the engine in?
EvilRufusKay replied to georgiaz's topic in Drivetrain
Do you think there is enough room to slide the tranny back after you remove the driveshaft? You should be able to support the tranny with a jack remove the crossmember and pull it back. Obviously you will need to remove the shifter as well. You shouldn't need to remove the bell housing as the tranny bolts to it. With removing the crossmember you should be able to drop the tranny down as you pull it back as long as the front spline shaft is clear. -
I did some more searching and found the info I needed Thanx jeromio!!! http://240z.jeromio.com/faqdraft/

This may be a dumb question but I can't seem to get it answered by searching. What does a coil over set give you other than adjustable ride height? The term is confusing to me because every strut I have ever seen has the spring over it. From what I can tell a coil over set is simply a threaded tube allowing you to raise or lower the spring. Does it also allow you to compress the spring for greater stiffness? Thanks!

I thought it was a good idea to, but what about the moisture? Some of those machines use chemicals to create the fog and that might F-UP my already F-ED-UP interior. and your right I probably DON'T want to know how many holes I have in my car. My rear sill is rotten on one side and the seal is completely shot, but I am afraid if I fix those things it will still reak. I have learned the faster I drive the less smog gets in the cab. -

Hey Guys, What does the term N/A mean. I see it all the time but I am still trying to get the lingo down. Also, if you turn one wheel and the other spins the same way what is that telling you? Or if it turns the opposite way? I appreciate it. -

I considered getting a NOS bottle, filling it with O2 and attaching a mask. It would look like I was breathing Nitros and I wouldn't have the killer headaches and burning throat. Seriously though I did lean out my fuel mix alot. That helped a bit. -

I have been having the same problem with my V8 Z. I actually take a spare set of clothes with me to work and douse myself in colonge so I don't reak of exaust. I am heading in the direction of rear seals for my car, extending the tip did not help my problem. I feel for you as I have the same exaust sickness. It grates at you... you love your car but can't remember where you parked it because of the drain bramage!!! -
Well I got my pedal back but it is still not the same as it was prior to the slave blowout. I am thinking I need to bleed the master. I get small air bubbles out of the master when I have someone pumping the clutch. There is a small flat head screw in the bottom of the casting of the master. Does anyone know if this is intended to be used as a bleeder?
-
How about this... I was having my brother pump then depress and hold, like doing brakes. How a bout loosening the bleeder then pushing the pedal down? Retighten fitting. That goes against what I was taught to do for brakes but mabe???????Just maybe. I will try a submerged hose as well. It's about 11:15 here... maybe I should wake the wife for her foot.
-
I actually had my brother helping me bleed the slave and the only thing I did diferently was not have a hose submerged in a jar. I know that is the method used to bleed a master,(run a hose from the zerks back to the master) but do you need to do it for a slave? You would not do this for say calipers. The system is so small, the master, about a foot of hard line then the flex hose. It seems to reason you should be able to let it gravity bleed and almost be fine but I get almost no pedal. A bit at the bottom but that is it.
