  1. I think you're making it worse for people down the line trying to search and find the answer. I haven't seen anyone say anything about trimming prior to this. I'd suggest you actually buy the spacers, stick them in the carrier and make sure they don't protrude out on either side. So long as the spacer is equal to or narrower than the carrier flange, no problem. http://forums.hybridz.org/showpost.php?p=982194&postcount=54
  2. Can't see the link, but didn't we establish that there is a bronze mcmaster.com 12mm OD x 10mm ID x 12mm length bushing that pops right in and doesn't need screwing with? I believe it was this one... http://www.mcmaster.com/#6679k14/=5mo30r
  3. Are the perches an equal height from the bottom of the strut? Did you put the same size spacer under the strut on each side? Are you using the same rubber isolator on top (240 and 280 are different heights, I think front and rear are also different on 280)? You shouldn't have to have one side noticeably higher than the other if all you're trying to do is get the ride height even.
  4. The shims should be the same if you're using a Nissan LSD. If it's something else then they might be different. Mine changed from .005 to .0055 when I swapped the open for the Nissan LSD. Just measure before and after, and if it's different after, shim it to the before measurement to keep the wear pattern on the gears right and you're good to go.
  5. Ever listen to Kyuss? Josh Homme's previous band. Very good, harder than QOTSA, sludgier stoner rock. Whitewater: Space Cadet:
  6. If I'm going to pick a QOTSA song, it's gotta be Mexicola. There's even a guy here with Mexicola as his username. Of course, that's from their first album, so maybe not so recent. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pEjFqIzFuIw Here's a pretty recent one from the Raconteurs, Carolina Drama: And something old that I've been listening to a lot lately: I have no help to give the OP with his Miley Cyrus issues, but I wish you a speedy recovery.
  7. That is a very serious Z32. Joe, do you do your own fab work, or are you having this all of this work done somewhere for you? Very nice job on the radiator ducting. Curious to know what happened to your lap times vs the VG30 as well.
  8. I sold a set of 44's in bolt em on and run em shape with a ton of jets and (better) air cleaner and linkage, the How to Modify book, a Unisyn tool and some misc extras for $1250. I thought I'd get $1800 or $2000. What you have in this market is probably $1000 worth of goodies. Whether you sell now or hang onto them is up to you.
  9. If the choices are swap the gears around (I think people are getting too hung up on the springs this way or that and the result is going to be a little more or less preload) or pay an extra $1500 for a Quaife, I'd swap the gears around.
  10. I don't think packing the whole strut housing with grease is warranted or a very good idea. A good slathering of grease on each bearing is really all you need. I have to wonder if PACKING the strut housing might cause a leak especially as the bearings get hot.
  11. Don't use my fuzzy recollection from 7 or 8 years ago and then extrapolate on that. As the old saying goes, if you make ♥♥♥♥ with ice cream you get shitty tasting ice cream.
  12. http://www.ajdesigner.com/phpspringrate/spring_rate_equation.php Here's the math if you want to figure it out yourself. I would guess that the rate changed less than 10 lbs.
  13. OEM Nissan wheels take a different size than the O'Reillys aftermarket mag wheel lugs. I can't see your picture, but you did describe the wheels as Nissan wheels, if so get Nissan lug nuts. Get some from a wheel shop used, or go to a junkyard. Very cool thing to do for your dad, BTW.
  14. I never had problems with vibrations with my Paulsens. I have some Diamonds to mock up... 15 x 12 with 4.5" backspace.
  15. I guess I missed that the first time, but as I said I am on heavy pain meds. The nice part about the threaded collar is that it can give you so many different shocks that could screw right in. The shitty part is that so many shitty shocks screw right in, and it really isn't easy to tell the difference by looking at the outside.
  16. I'm totally stoned right now, but I haven't previously seen you criticizing the Arizona Z Car stuff which has been using this welded sleeve method for years. Am I too high to understand what argument you're making or why it doesn't apply to AZC?
  17. Well apart from not being able to sleep more than about 10 minutes at a time, I'm very pleasantly surprised. I've changed my nose dressing 3 times and then took it off and I've hacked up some very bloody phlegm, but on the pain scale I was expecting a 9 or 10 and I got a 6 or 7. Turns out opiates work pretty well. We'll see if my luck holds tomorrow.
  18. All I can say is that I used the avgas and unleaded mix and had great results. I also used race gas and cut it with unleaded, that worked well too. I also used Tolulene and Xylene in the DIY octane booster mixes and had good luck there as well. I am inclined to agree with you.
  19. Hehehe... called that one.
  20. Yep. It's a big no-no to pump it directly into a car, but you don't have to be a pilot to buy it, so into cans and then into the car later. Of course it's also very illegal to burn it on the street. Every time this comes up someone pipes up about how planes run at 3500 rpm at high altitude and the specific gravity is different, blah blah blah. My personal experience mixing it with premium unleaded is that it works great. I did jet my carbs a bit richer. Now though with the V8 I will have a bunch more hp and torque and my engine should run on 87 with no problems.
  21. Might be time to start running used slicks. Probably cut your tire budget in 1/2. Tires was always the biggest thing for me as an autoxer and track day guy.
  22. Again, are we racing a series? Doing track days? You can spend a buttload of money in any class, putting lots of cash down trying to get that extra 1/3 hp in your Formula Vee. If you just want to go fast on a track, it doesn't have to be THAT expensive. It's still going to be expensive, but it's trying to compete with the other guy that is built to the limit of the rules that gets you.
  23. Throw a V8 worth a couple grand in there and granted the initial install cost might be higher, but cost per hp goes WAY down, and over the long term it's cheaper in terms of maintenance/rebuilds/replacement. Arrive and drive is an attractive option. Considering the cost and labor and time of building or even prepping an old car, it seems like a good deal.
  24. I just took my first round of steroids to counter swelling. I expect I won't be back for a couple days, but if I can remember this in my drug induced stupor I'll post up then... Glad to hear you're recovering well.
