mike said it all in the first post. as a nation, our position among the world is being tarnished; allies who once took us seriously have long begun to wonder what our real agenda is. our foreign policy is in shambles and whoever inherits the postion of commander in chief has an epic mess to clean up. meanwhile, we're LOSING the war on terror (sorry, it's the truth) and the media keeps the coals burning by warning of another catastrophic tragedy and keeping American morale on orange alert. years and years of shoddy foreign policy is what got us into this, not just four years of misguided "leadership". we supported regimes in the iran conflict in the eighties only to turn around and quietly aid their enemies. we've sent billions in taxpayer money to terror-supporting nations under the facade of humanitarian aid and the protection of human rights. we started something in the early 90's that was left undone, only to resurface more than a decade later as an all-to-convenient distraction to the unsuccesful attempt to rid the world of the threat of al-queda. of course our people are dying, it's war. war is hell, it may be cliche but it's nothing a civilized world should ever have to deal with. we got ourselves involved, and knew full well what the consequences of our actions would have been long beforehand. meanwhile, our people are dying overseas, canada can provide federalized healthcare but we can't, and thanks to media and government propaganda (red scare??) we wonder when the next massive tragedy is going to hit and how much worse this time. i think the answer lies in a vulgar display of power, a definitive statement of "we're tired of our people dying" not unlike the one that ended WWII. and after that? like mike said, defend our borders, pay ourselves first, and KEEP OUR NOSES OUT OF OTHER COUNTRIES' BUSINESS!!!!

aeros are awesome cars! i have a 9000cse turbo, when they talk about "typical saab issues" mine has most of the usuals... runs hot, switches giving out, climate control gave up it's blower fan, something stupid's causing my snail not to boost ... all easily fixable if i could keep my wrenches off the 240, but... all in all, it's a great car, starts every time, comfortable as hell, quick when it's spooling, looks good, hauls stuff like a swedish moving van... it just sucks when you have to buy parts for it!

i just voted... 240z's are now neck and neck.

(keanu reeves voice) WHOOOOAAAAA..... HOLY CRAP TIM... out in the driveway my 240 bows in reverence! -
if i could play devil's advocate... i might have just gotten lucky but i bought my car from a 37-post member...and it was better than the ad. there are reputable people out there. we've just been jaded by all the scum that bilks people left and right on the web. so what's to do? feedback system gets my vote, but how does that stop somebody from getting screwed in the first place? :

my ultimate swap would be a stage-3 turbo'd e-36 m3 engine... but so much for affordable. i've heard all i need to hear about the smoothness of the n/a engine and have read that the turbo cars are unchained beasts... and the average e36 has at least 900 pounds on a 240. i have to say i'm really intrigued by the rotary setups... if only for how the packaging would make the car feel. light engine... seamless power... the potential to blow it up at any given time... my kind of car!

al... we did! i was two cars down, passenger side, pearl white turbo 240. i, as well, had no idea you were on here! you told me the story of getting points off at nationals on a brand-new shift handle... for those who don't know al's car, it's a REALLY nice ride!

yup, i think we can all relate in one way or another. last night, when i was just absolutely exhausted, it was my wife who helped convince me that i really should get up really early to go to the new jersey z-club show. just because she knew how much it meant to me, and how i'd been looking forward to it, she ushered me off to bed and persisted until my dead ass woke up. and you know what? she just did it because she knew i'd have a blast, and she was right. sometimes she gets pissed at my z just like any of us do, but she knows my passion for it and kind of shares some of it herself, whether she knows it or not. people were coming up to my z at the show, and she was answering their questions before i got the chance to talk half the time. i don't know... i just thought that was really cool. as for the car itself? why z's? well, i've owned 14 cars in my life and driven a million others, and never did i feel more like i was at home in a car like i do in a z. it's me, you know... hard to describe but easy for you all to understand. a couple drives and it's as if it's a part of you. and about the show... jersey, it was great to meet you! my setup really does want to be yours whenit grows up...bob

welcome to the board, george! no, it doesn't, unfortunately. there are a couple of members on here who have done the swap. look up the profile for 80LTI, he has a v8 in his. there are no mass-available writeups on the subject, but there are people here who have done it and with a little searching you'll get alot of help...bob

nice juan! the video's badass. the howard dean thing cracked me up! what rpm did you hold before launch? it might just be my transmission, but with my car if i hold it at 3500 and let the clutch slip a little, it tears off the line. but with it running rich like it is, i have to get the revs up. i might be forced to soon become a regular jsk customer... ...bob

Congrats and THANK YOU to Pete Paraska for his Comments!

pete wrote... But if one starts with emotion, and then never goes through the critical thinking process, their emotion becomes their passion, without the irrational part removed. kind of sounds like celebrity marriage.... the thought process might make sense in the case of a concours jag or something along those lines. but those who own those cars don't do so to drive them.... they're museum pieces. but at least in our way of thought if you're going to have a car to actually use, isn't it exponentially more satisfying to be able to drive the car that most closely resembles the way you as the driver want it? -

the last line of your post got me thinking, pete. one of my creative writing teachers talked about the difference between emotion and passion. emotion comes off as rash, irrational, and often doesn't appear to have much thought behind it. passion, on the other hand, is something from deep within, a strong feeling that grows over time to become a part of yourself. is this the difference between us and the purists? who knows, but it does beg the question. -

it will surely turn a few heads, and might just shake up the purists a little bit! -

i can speak from experience... sort of. my 72 240 has a 77 280 dash in it... so i know for sure it can be done. i wasn't the one to do it though... so i won't be the one to tell you how! only glitch is that there's no holes to bolt the front part of the console to... so mine sits about an inch and a half too low. i'll have to improvise something after a couple bigger fish get fried.
