  1. Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't the CAS go on the exhaust cam?
  2. Sorry I missed this whole post entirely... I feel a little better about the $3000 budget now.
  3. I'm only being negative mainly on the part where $3000 is going to get you something worth while... I have no real problems with RB20's or RB25's or RB26's... All in all parts you mentioned comes out to $2300 which leaves $700 for other stuff... Not including oil pump, material to make mounts (even if this guy can do them... I sure can't)... oil pan plus shipping... My MAIN point is it can be done for $3000... but you don't have a lot of room left over for much else besides dropping in a motor and having it run... no suspension, brakes... etc... and can this guy do all the work himself including wiring, fabrication? Maybe... but by the questions he's been asking I highly doubt it... The question in this thread is can it be done for $3000? Yes... Can it be done reliably within budget? I highly doubt it which is my main point... like I said in previous posts... if the guy wants to do it.. more power to do so... I'm just trying to give a reality check with what $3000 can get you if you want to do a RB swap... RB20 or RB25 it's not much Also... yes... RB20's are going to be roughly 20 year old motors... there are maintenance things that need to be done to make it reliable.
  4. Sure... you're going to want to spend less than $3000... but you're going to use the original timing belt? original water pump? etc... You have to consider the parts involved and labor, intercooler, piping, materials, driveshaft? shipping... etc... you're gonna keep stock rally height on the Z with stock tires, stock brakes, stock everything and safely operate a 240Z with a RB20 or RB25? Well yes maybe you can get it all installed and running for under $3000 (if you manage your funds very closely)... but would $3000 be enough to safely operate this vehicle and will this old RB20 thats about 20 years old run reliably? maybe... Would I budget $3000 dollars for a RB20 swap to be cool? No. EDIT: More power to you if you can do it all for under $3000 and it makes you happy... it's not my car and I'm not driving it. Good luck
  5. Check the 6/7 wires going to and from the igniter on both sides... check and recheck wires... most importantly hook that bad boy up to a Nissan Consult program of some sort and diagnose error codes... I can't read the blinking read light on the ECU so don't even ask me about that
  6. Does your fuel pump seem to be on all the time like it's supposed to?
  7. Don't question the legend... or give him recommendations. No offense to anyone... but this guy has a lot longer racing resume than a lot of us can speak for
  8. My dogs would eat the beggin' strips... then you, haha... how are those wheels turning out? Still awesome I hope!
  9. Guys... Erick is a master... Honda is his bread/butter and he was the first to break in to the 9's running all motor. I'm not surprised that he chose a F22 due to his genius works with Honda platforms. Glad to have you here buddy! Quoc from Livesockets
  10. Also do a search and stop asking really random questions... http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/13076-so-you-wanna-swap-an-rb-eng-here-ya-go/ I mean a lot of the stuff is already answered... and appearing by your post count and random questions... you need to do a search
  11. If you think you can fabricate everything yourself... I would say no... if you have to have someone else do stuff as well... then hell no
  12. Also maybe check the ground at your CAS... since you seem to rotate it.. then it kicks on and off... could be a problem (also make sure you reset your ECU per the FSM)... after a couple fault codes the ECU likes to operate in safe mode.... which is very boring!
  13. Please post roughly what area you live... otherwise we assume you are scoping us all out to steal our rides! good luck getting past my rottweilers
  14. It's not... but it's 25% bigger than a 2.0.. if you're going to go 2.0L.. you might as well go with a 4 banger
  15. The only fender I rolled on my car was the rear driver side.. and all is well now =)
  16. Same here... where exactly are you? And for the love of god don't go RB20... RB25 and up or don't play with the big boys in my opinion.
  17. It all depends on which turbo you choose
  18. Does anyone want to help me roll my fenders? ... Will include beer and lunch! Or would like to loan me the roller. -Quoc [Orange County, CA] EDIT--- If there are a bunch of people wanting to get their fenders rolled we could all chip in and rent one and roll a few cars =P
  19. Yeah I read that afterwards... thanks for the followup... to bad my R180 is a 25 Nissan spline.. but the good news is I can hopefully just drop in a Nissan competition LSD
  20. Negative... didn't know which flanges you were talking about (inboard vs outboard)... I can't seem to remember what spline count the R180 STI ones are... but that's neither here nor there in this thread
  21. My current setup Yokohama AVS ES-100, 15x7.5 +5 Front (no problems here)... 15x8.5 -5 Rear (Minor minor wheel rub inner left fender)... so I'll roll the inner lip a bit... not worried about the outside... plenty of clearance there for now 225/50R15 Yoko AVS-ES100.. That's about as much stretch as I want without going 205 (YUCK!)
