  1. i have a 77.for some reason nissan wired the red led in volt meter to a relay under the seat that hooks up to something else-i dont remember.i remeber ripping out extra stuff when installing 81zxt drivetrain/ecm.any way i converted to internal regulator 85 amp turbo alternator.you just have to extend 2 wires from regulator plug to the new alt.when i do this stuff i never document it-i should.1 wire runs the led in volt meter and 1 is a key + for field .
  2. when pontiac brings out the holden/pontiac gto for late 2003 maybe it will force ford to update the mustang or bring out a new car.the chassis that the jag /lincoln ls /tbird has the suspension already done.just need a new body.
  3. can your clip guy get a mazda cosmo with a 20bt and a 5speed ?i have been to those industrial areas in sf.very shady.but since real estate is so expensive people are forced into finding strange places to work on cars .
  4. mr darius-i checked out your website -its very good but since i am cheap and only have a dail-up modem i will wait and watch vidoes at work on compant t1 line.the video of your z racing the r1 stopped the shop at the ford dealer where i work.since i am a gear head with a dirt bike i will have to get the new crusty video.going dirt bike riding in san felipe in march to prerun the 250 course and watch the race.if you want to go for a ride on a 100+ mph 18' tunnel bottem outboard boat send email.
  5. ford ran 40 psi no vacuem-32 psi at idle.my turbo z has lucas disc type injectors that are oem size.it passes smog in ca.but if pressure is turned up these injetors are supposed to spray more fuel.when its on 12 psi boost i see 56 to 60 psi on my mechanical fuel pressure gauge.o2 sensor is running rich-.86 .so i know i am getting plenty of fuel.the 40-32 thing is common on efi systems that are bosch based.
  6. since i work at a car repair shop i set my car up for the track then align it again after i take the track tires off .street i run 1.75 negative camber in front.track in run 3.2 negative.rear is set at 1.5 negative because of no camber plates.i dont like any toe out .i run just a little toe in 1/10 ".toe out makes car wander at speed.dont waste money on expensive street tires for track.i tried yoko avs and when they got hot they got greasy.just get a beater set of 15x7 with some kumho v700.i run my track tires on wheels from pick&pull.

    a company called kennedy engineered performance makes vw engine adaptors.they also make a mazda rotory/borg t5 bellhousing.they might be able to make a vr6/t5 adaptor.my brother has a 2000 vr6 jetta that he uses to sell real estate .no problems with the car.these engines will make big power with a turbo and are light.

  11. the blame is about 50/50 john q public/ford.i work at a ford dealer with 30 techs.most of the time the shop has 8 0r 9 suv to 1 car.i hate suvs-the only thing they are good for is hauling kids once they figure out how to climb into the thing.there is no ford car i would buy even with my d plan discount.a falcon with a dohc 5.4 and a 6 speed might do it.but it had better be as tight inside as a mercedes or bmw.if gas prices ever go up alot suvs will be on every corner for sale.most of the ford cars are rattle and squeek to much or have too many cheap parts .
  12. my z is a daily driver bt has full ground control suspension,turbo engine.i can run with a its z on a race track.on track i run the kumho v700.down side is rough ride.springs are 225 in front and 250 rear.i need to try a gtech on track some time.its fun to make a trailered race car have to follow and look at your license plates.i can drive to the track but i usually put it on the trailer so i can carry a big cooler and sleep in my van at night.
  13. if you dont want to spend bucks on aftermarkit harness get ford book(called evtm in dealer tech speak) for year of car engine came from.i work as a tech at a ford dealer and books are very good.put harnes on engine out of car .you can use masking tape to tag notes on wires for fuel pump,etc.it should take about 3 hours with a book.
  14. i have a LOT of turbo z stuff but since i am a tech at a ford dealer i can get alot of parts for free.i have stuff to build a big turbo l28 but i really dont like trying to plumb the intercooler around the a/c.i think a healthy 10 to 1 302 with a solid roller cam would be better on road courses (sears point,laguna,thunderhill).more torque out of corner.if you have to much hp coming out just bog it a little .the power is in the heads.fords didnt run until the aftermarkit came out with heads with chevy valves.i think the 302 ford is probably the best compromise of handling vs horsepower for a z.
  15. what i was refering is that it would be a squeeze getting 350hp worth of air through stock 81-83 zxt afm.the engine is certainly strong enough to run alot of boost.its your tuning that will kill it if you dont know how to write an advance curve for an engine on boost.the oem zxt program is very limited.if you used a fresh stock long block and did some carefull programming on an aftermarkit efi system engine should last very long time with normal maitenance.the engine in my 77 is an 81zxt that i bought used for $200.bought whole car.car was stolen & recovered with blown ecm.owner said engine had a fresh $3000 rebuild but that could be bs.to the point-engine has been in car for 80000 miles and only uses a quart of oil every 2000 miles.it has been boost spiked to 20 psi and pinged more than a few times.i installed it with some oem size lucas disc type injectors.when cat and egr is hooked up it passes smog in ca.if you put in aftermarkit efi and program it well with a few extra goodies you should be able to have a 350hp daily driver.if you get a load of bad gas somewhere just keep your foot out of it.in ca i always run chevron.and we only get 91 octane.summer time i run 10 psi and winter i run 13.engine will live very long time if you dont let it ping.
  16. since i work on ford for a living i can tell you about worst car-an early 90s tbird supercharged v6.the aerostars arent bad if you lift it and go through fender well.gm f bodys are bad.most late model cars have 100,000 mile plugs.the manufacturers are hoping the car gets totaled before it needs a tune up.

  18. the stock efi system wont support it.a z31 system with maf might.best to get aftermarkit efi so you can tune it.
  19. i didnt know you were a ford guy mike?i really think a 5.0 with aluminum heads is lighter than a l28 motor.especially a turbo with iron exhaust manifold.i can lift and carry a 5.0 block.i cant carry or lift l28 block.
  20. they had external linkage.only one i have ever seen was in a half ton van with a 4.9 six.just get a t5.the external linkage needs constant adjustment .
  21. i have a 77 with 81zxt powwer with factory air.i dont use the aac valve.it just idles a little fast-1000 rpm.i have seen a holder with hose fittings on each end for a gm iac solonoid.i dont know who made it.
  22. i have a 18' mirage tunnel bottem with a 260hp merc out board.it will run 102 on radar but tbo time is not much.would like a dcb 22 tunnel with a allison c-18 and arneson drive.no maintenance and runs on cheap fuel-like ag diesel.

    Top Speed?

    i ran mine up to 145 mph(speedo checked on chassis dyno) on way home from work on freeway at 2am on a tuesday morning.was still pulling some but i had enough.front end alignment has alot to do with high speed handling.if you have any toe out it will wander at speed.
  24. horse power is never easy.and if you beef up one part you find the next weak link.in this cause it was somebody trying to make 200hp with 4 12lb/hour injectors.the eaton supecharger was 1 of the few good parts on 90's tbird sc.i have never saw a bad one.
  25. i have seen a cima motor in one of those used japanese motor places.its a dohc vg30 with single turbo.throttle body has 2 blades/bores.its coil-on plug.my girlfriend's 2000 maxima has a vq30.vq has timing chains instead of belts.the motor place was selling cima engine for replacement for 300zx tt.turbo was on left-not good for left hand drive car.if you stuffed it back and put turbo in front it would work.motor was cheap-$600.
