  1. standard mustang trans is 3.36 1st .world class is 2.96.put it in first and clean and mark input and output shafts and count the turns .tremec bought the tooling from bw and is making t5 .hecho en mexico.so much for union labor.
  2. try a hobby shop.i have seen high quality nylon screws and nuts on radio controled airplanes..this is the fun part of hybrid z-using parts from everything you can think of.
  3. some efi companies have specific applications for lt1.easy way would be a painless harness and use a pre obd2 ecm.if you look on the chevy forums there is a software /cable kit that lets you reprogram the ecm with a laptop.i did a lt1 in a early nova and had tpis modify the ecm.the vats(anti theft) and egr systems were removed from the ecm.
  4. you should be able to fab a brackit for lower left side of motor and run compressor is close to same spot.if the hoses need to be modified i cut the factory crimps of with a die grinder and a cutting wheel .then i get a piece of bulk hose and refit.take the stuff to an a/c shop and they can put new crips back on.you have same a/c system i have.except i have a turbo zxt motor.
  5. gprix1-mines road isnt chip sealed-its chip sealed up by the observatory.i rode that road on my new fz1 on memorial weekend.fz1= r1 for old guys that dont bend to fit a bike any more.but i put the ivans jet kit and a slip on to the fz1 and its real healthy.dynoed at 130 at the wheel.my turbo z is for daill driving and track days.will be at thill july 10.

  7. what year z is it?mine is on the lower driver's side of engine.if you dont want to build brackits you will have to switch compressors to use a ready made brackit system like march .if you have a 70 to 74 z you have a big piston type ac compressor-it would be better to get a modern small compressor because of less hp to turn it.
  8. i have a 77 with a 81zxt engine and oem a/c works good.nothing wrong with fabrcating a compressor brackit.just make sure it is solid.
  9. the zxt ecms come from pick&pull-$32.i have a couple on the shelf and 1 marked core.i need to try the other 2 to see what happens.will be packing an extra for shasta.
  10. this is probably the 4th or 5th zxt ecm that has been in ther car since the motor was swapped 7 years ago.when they go out the car will run but wont make any power past 3000 rpm.problem is car has to be smogged(kalifornia) every 2 years.the oem turbo choked the engine.will see how it does at thunderhill july 10.i always run union 110 nascar gas at thill though.pay now or buy engine later.$40 for gas for a day is cheaper than an engine.i am thinking about installing a fi system that has an extra output to hook egr to.they dont check what ecm is in the car.i have the tank evap system hooked up.my 77 /81zxt is certified in ca with a swap sticker in the door frame.when i put the other tail pipe with cat on and hook egr up it passes at test only easy.if the smog laws arent changed(50/50 odds) it will only have to be smogged 1 more time-next summer.
  11. i had a 60-1 t4/custom machined nissan 280zxt exhaust housing stage 5 turbine built for my daily driver work beater z.put it while while car was on rack for trans rebuild/clutch replacement.put on scottie's down pipe with it.using oem 280zxt engine management.it doesnt bog that bad-it makes instant 5 lbs of boost on the freeway in 5th if i floor it.engine revs much quicker after 5000.the zxt ecm has some kind of rev limiter/fuel cut in it and you have to watch out or your on it .i know another 100 hp is in there with i.c. and aftermarkit ecm.after i get the tie downs on the smog dyno at work fixed i am going to give a run with some union 100 unleaded.
  12. you have to apply the boost to the float chamber or boost blows gas back into the bowls.old time z car turbo kits used a big draw through su.twm makes throttle body/injector units for webber manifold.
  13. i remember reading a post on another z site awhile back slamming jwt because they could not get a car tuned correctly after somebody bought a system from them.since i have a dyno at work(its not a dynojet-its a smog dyno)i can use it for 80% of tuning and buy time on a dynojet for peak hp tuning.my point of view on an efi system that cant be tuned is like buying a carburator from summit and bolting it on hopeing the jetting is ok.
  14. i wouldnt buy a jwt system-heard you cant tune it yourself.engines are like people-every one is different.if you cant drive the car to thier shop you might be screwed-it will have to be dynoed to make full use of the money that was spent on it.efi systems are getting better-soon there will be systems with 5 wire o2 that will program themselves for a certain af ratio.i wouldnt use a hot wire maf-they are sensative to vibration/mounting problems.
  15. same injectors i got on my 96 mercury 2.5 efi outboard boat motor.injectors will work.you dont use those little plastic nozzle caps.fuel injectors are generic parts-they werent built to a manufacture's spec.
  16. does anybody know what year/car to get a slip yoke for a na zx tran that carries bigger ujoints than old small z joints?i still have the bigger pinion flange off the 87 lsd unit.would like to build a beefier drive shaft.see post about sac drag strip night for reason why i didnt run my car.would like to build a shaft that runs common american sized u joints.
  17. since diff in a z doesnt move with wheels like a solid axle yoke can be engaged pretty far in.if yoke is shorter -supposedly a corvette yoke is-split the difference in length.
  18. smog on a 71-dont worry about it.i have a smog license in ca and have certified 2 swaps but no obd2 swaps yet.1 of the swaps is my 77z with 81zxt motor.dont bother talking on phone-waste of time.the referee station is only place that cares.both of the cars i did passed on first trip.if i had a 71 i would tell the government about it.to them if its fun its gotta be illegal.some counties in ca dont have a biannual test even-move to the mountains.
  19. your fuel pump relay should have a hot wire that is at b+ at all times -not controlled by the key.sounds like it is priming and running out of gas.you could jumper some 12v to pump to check for this.
  20. try redline mtl-pours a little thicker than atf but rated at 75-90.i run it in my 82 na trans and friends have used it in 5.0 stang trans.car shifts with a nice feel.
  21. i have 1 of thise nismo all gear lsd units i got off of ebay.normal r200 alxles are smaller and slip inside of the side gears of the nismo diff.i have seen pictures of s15 stubbs that snap into diff-the are stub axles with a flat flange on end with the 280zxt 3x2 bolt pattern.i am not into piecing cv axles together.if any body wants the nismo diff its for sale-send pm.
  22. i have a nismo gleason-torson type all gear limited slip i bought off of ebay.the splines in the side gears dont match up.i stuffed some 82zxt cv axles into the side gears on the diff(i only got the actual diff-not a complete rear end)and the axles were smaller.whats good about the all gear type is it is not critical about what oil it runs in it.i have a 87 300zx limited slip in my 77 and filled it with for synthetic rear axle oil(freebies from work ) and skipped the friction modifier.can you say semi locked rear end?added frition modfier -no noise and good grip.if somebody wants that nismo diff send email.
  23. my vehicle list -77 z turbo with full track suspension and working factory a/c,96 ford e150 van-the toy hauler/park in the pits motel room,87 honda xr 600 baja dirt bike, 2002 yamaha fz1-some thing to go riding with my harley budds on,and the main money burner-18' mirage tunnel bottem boat with merc 2.5 efi outboard.boat radars at 100+ with stock motor.after owning boat for a year it takes way more maintenance than i planed on.but i have a very nice place to run the boat-the delta in central california.the fz1 is probably the best bang for the buck though .
  24. it would be interesting to me to find out if other members have multiple motorized hobbies beside their z car.my latest bad habit/hobby is an addiction i want to sell but REALLY like to drive/abuse it because its not illegal.i will wait to see other posts out of respect for the less fortunate members.
  25. try a company called street&performance-somewhere in arkansas.they make a spacer for lt1 pulley.i used 1 on a lt1 swap i did into a 66 nova.
