  1. Stock Datsun S30 bolt pattern is 4X4.5" or 4X114.3mm. I just got some 1.25" thick adapters from 4X4.5 to 4X4.25, which is the same as 4-lug Mustang-google search for wheel adapter spacers and you might find something. Arizona Z-car has some billet front 5-lug hubs that are reasonably priced-I bet they will bolt right up to your brake kit. Check their website. BTW-mismatched wheels look badass! Sleeper.
  2. Yeah, that is what I've seen-just one loop in the middle, but I haven't seen any examples that are super clean in design. I think it would be pretty easy with the flat plate portion of the stock control arm, but it will be tricky with my tubular control arms-it will take more mods for me. To me it is a matter of limiting collateral damage so there is less stuff to fix. Everybody I know who has broken an axle has also trashed brake lines and floor pans, turning a fairly easy matter in to a crisis. This is the final thing on my winter mods list because I can't figure out if it is required prior to chassis certification, or not. I also don't know if it has to be 2" wide 1/4" flat plate just like the driveshaft loop. Can you show (just for review) what your 1/4-mile times were before and after slicks (include 60' times and trap speeds)? I don't know how you were doing so well with skinny street tires-maybe it is an A/T benefit-less blood and guts getting out of the hole!
  3. Once I adjusted the big screw in the top of the steering rack to try to adjust out some play. It behaved as you describe. I loosened it back up and the problem resolved.
  4. Looks fantastic! The 240z tunnel is SO much narrower. This was a big problem. You made it look easy. Do you think we need axle loops?
  5. Read the entire Modern Motorsport thread in the Announcements forum. I think your plan is gonna need some changes.
  6. Sounds cool. Keep us posted. If you run into trouble feel free to PM me and I will help if I can. I have the NV tranny in my S10 truck. It sucks for fast shifting, especially the 2-3 shift, but it is fine overall.
  7. If you use a washer and heavy shank lug nut system like you would use with a weld draglite, you'd probably be fine. Torque them with a torque wrench to 90# on a regular basis and let it rip. You should be able to feel it in your hands or butt if the tire is out of true to any significant degree.
  8. JMortensen-expect a PM about this helical. The rubbing of the axles on the housing bugs me and makes me want to pass on the project...just seems like a lot of work when I have two CLSDs and a VLSD already. I have lots of other projects that are higher priority.
  9. That hp rating doesn't match the sub-7 1/8-mile you are running! Supposedly, I have 435 tq and you are flat running off from me. I think you are kicking butt. What is your drive time to Little Rock, Arkansas? I'm about 6 hours. Perhaps next summer we could meet at Centerville Dragway an hour outside Little Rock for a Hybrid Z race night with wfritts911 in his LS1-powered car. Its a great 1000 ft. track-super clean, smooth track with a really nice family atmosphere and a great vibe.
  10. Sounds like we will have cars that are basically twins! Post lots of pics. I already have the MM rear LCAs, am doing the AZC brake conversion at this very moment. Then the roll bar. I will miss Jim; he was my Gilroy garlic connection. Congrats on a good buy.
  11. Daz-Can you tell me about your vlsd and why you are considering a change? I have one on the shelf but I don't know how it's performance will compare with my CLSD that I currently run.
  12. I think we lost the point of the OP's question. Here's my answer: it's your car, do whatever you want. If you want justification for running no air filter, just site the fact that most engine fires on engines with side draft cars come from fuel soaked air filter elements (fuel standoff or flooding) ignited by a backfire. In my book, that's reason enough to go without air filters with side draft carbs. Lots of arguments against it, but with the miles you are putting on that car, it will likely rust out or get totalled by a texting teenager before you wear out you engine. Let it rip and have fun! All this talk about restriction is within the context of an engine that likely makes 100-150 rwhp so who cares if it drops to 99-149? But they look good and sound great. All the more with pretty velocity stacks hanging off the side. I vote NO to the air filter.
  13. When you get it put together, it would be really nice if you published your ball-park expenditures. I've been thinking that if my current motor ever tanks, I would just get one of the crate LS427 or LS454 motors. They are expensive, but there is no substitute for cubic inches. My wife is often more open to one big ticket as opposed to my usual M.O. of nickel and diming her to death.
  14. Wow! That's great. Look at how long this post has been laying around for help. Thanks-I read every word of that article. I have started storing my tires in trash bags in a climate controlled storage room (thanks to the antiques my in-laws left us but don't have room for). My wife thinks the $200 a month rent is for the antiques but it is really for my tires! I knew to let my drag slicks down to 10psi (gotta keep some pressure in them to avoid tubes wadding up), but i didnt know to let the air out of my other tires. I wasted a set of nee BFG R1s by letting them get hot and turn blue-just light $100 bills on fire. They never regained any traction-were worse than 400 wear schedule street tires. My current A6s really got chunked up last race due to a super rough surface. I can't seem to keep rocks out of my gummy tires, so much so that I'm gonna break down and put some undercoating on the rear half of my inner fenders. The tires load up with rocks between the finish and the paddock. Thanks again for your help-really appreciate it.
  15. Never followed up on this. An extra long burnout cleaned the tires up. I had a buddy go into water box with me. Short burnout did nothing to clean up tires so I did a long burnout=tire smooth as a baby's butt and car started hooking up again.
  16. Thanks for the update. You may be making more power, but I just slapped my radiator in the car and ran it. It is an aluminum Champion eBay 3-row made to fit as a replacement for stock. I just have whatever thermostat was in it from the junkyard. Be sure to make sure your fan is pulling air into the engine compartment. The first time I wired mine-I had the power and ground backwards and it was pushing instead of pulling. Be sure to do simple stuff first.
  17. That's cool. I like the 240z ornament on the grill, too.
  18. Been watching all week for this video-thanks for posting! Where did that 'vette come from, and how much body work you gotta do-looked like you swapped some paint? There's one section of track where you sweep thru about three turns, seemingly holding the wheel in one position as the line just sort of unfolds-amazing line. Which car are you faster in: Z or 'vette?
