I've got 5 on predator. But the film makers can make it go either way

K I just redid my injector caps and no diff so it must be the o-rings in the injector. So I read in my haynes manual (my factory manual is in h-town) that there are two o-rings (or insulators) in the injector one upper and one lower. The lower one goes in between the injector and intake manifold and the upper goes between the upper and lower holder of the injector. So what one of these or both of them are causing the problem. What else should I check while fuel rail is off? Oh I have verified all of the injecotrs are working properly and that only at idle or low rpm use does the engine miss. So it is defiantly an air leak of some sort. I'll be getting the o-rings tom. Thanks sleeperz, jkube, and innerward. Ted Schmidt

When I refer to the injector cap I'm talking about the brown electrical cap that connects to the electrical plug on the injector. It has two wires running into it. The #2 cylinder w/ the screwdriver test does not fire everytime. So I fiqure a lose electrical connector. I guess I will buy a few new ones from nissan. But for safe measure I think I will go ahead and replace the o-rings. Oh btw it has been missing for a few weeks not just after I adjusted them.

Well after an hour of removing the caps, cleaning them, putting them on, and sliding them back and forth finally I got the car to run again. Only now my miss at idle is slightly worse. Then when I rev ithe motor it goes away or is alot less. I believe it has something to do with the #2 injector. I removed it under idle and has very little effect on how the engine runs. So I am going to rebuild my injector caps so there is a nice tight connection. Has anybody done this b4?. Or is there a place I can buy new caps and then all I have to do is cut the old ones and wire in the new ones. TIA

Well I was trying to chase down my slight miss at idle and was replacing vacuum lines and adjusting this and that. When I noticed my injector caps had some facing at 45 degrees and others at 90 degrees. Not exactly at those angels but close. Well I thought maybe a few of them got bumped and moved, so when idleing with the less air volume the spray was hitting the intake wall and clumping up and then going into the combustion chamber. So I loosened the screws ontop of the injectors rotated them to 90 degree position and started her up. Well she ran on like 3 or 4 cylinders. So I went and undid what I had done or I think I did I might have moved the wrong ones and then I went to start her and nothing. Not one cylinder trying to fire. I will be taking the fuel rail off in an hour or two too look at the injectors and clean the caps, but wanted your guys input on this before I started messing with things. TIA

'83 280ZX Steering rack options?
Thumper replied to a topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Bump. I would like to know what is needed also. I'm about to replace my rack. I already have my power steering rack cut and looped and I don't mind the resistance but would like to save a few pounds so I'm going to swap the manual one. TIA -
Uuuuummmmmm Uuuuuummmmm I'm not worthy. That is a sweet ride. WOW

ULISES what year, model, and make is ur car?

Oh oh I know this one "What is Rolling On The Floor Laughing My Ass Off" What did I win

Also what is the difference between the pro street fuel cell and the Drag race fuel cell. Thanks again. Ted Schmidt

Sorry for the nub question. But on that fuel cell how do you fill it up. Are you going to have to pull up too the gas pump, open your hatchback, move the carpet, and pop lid and run the nozzle to it? Or is there some way to run a line to the side of your car. Also what, if any, are the weight savings going to be like. Also any other benefits. TIA

Only 3450 posts come on you can wip through those in about an hour or two. Well welcome to houston and i'm sorry . Good school but leave houston as soon as you can Yeah there are alot of f-bodys around houston, but most are stock. Well I have a silver/black 280zx (soon to be all black) so if you see me around give me holler. Damn thats alot of cars. Hey if that guys wants I wouldn't mind taking the ferrari off of his hands Ted Schmidt

Well thanks guys. That is what I thought so I will just save the money for the sds.

Just browsing around and saw this. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33597&item=2436169547 At the local speed shop it is 385. I was wondering if anyone is running this. I'm just looking for alittle bit more tunning ability b4 I pay the big bucks for the sds system. I would run this on my 83 l28et. Stock turbo and injectors. Maybe upgraded injectors. Let me know. TIA
-
Wow that sucks sorry to hear that happened. What turbo did you finally go with? Do you think it was a malfunction of the turbo or did something get sucked in. Either way I hope you can get a refund on it. Ted Schmidt

Eureka!! K it was on backwards Don't know why. I found the clip that held on the bolt. It feels so much better now. Been driving like this for the last two days. Now all I need to get a short throw shifter made. Thanks for all ur help. Ted Schmidt

Wanted to say thanks for all who posted. Found out it was an aftermarket tail light. IMO it is butt ugly. So i removed it. Two problems though the non-orignal paint job was done around the taillight so under it it looks like $h!+. Oh well will get some spray paint and see how good I can get it. Also the factory licence plate light slash key cover is gone so I am going to a junkyard this weekend. On the shifter i was thinking about reversing it. Question though the bolt that holds it down it looks threaded but i looks like all u have to do is slide it out. Is there suppose to be a nut on the end of the bolt? Maybe it fell out and the owner put it back in backwards (doh) Well thanks again. Ted Schmidt

Yes you would make more power with 9-10 psi t3/t4 then you would with the stock turbo at 9-10 psi. The reason you make more power is the turbo can spin slower (so less heat build up and less reverbations of the air) on the intake (t4) side of the turbo to make the same boost as the smaller wheeled t3 turbo. But on a stock engine there is a limit of how much power you can make. No matter what boost you throw at it, may it be 15psi on a t3 or 9psi on a t3/t4 you can not over do the fuel system. You can safely run 240-250 rwhp on the stock fuel system after this you need to look into injectors, fuel pump, engine management, intercooler, and etc... Ted Schmidt

I will be ordering this fuel pump in the next few days and was wondering what fittings do I need to order with the pump to install it into a 83' 280zx. Also what gauge wire do u think would be best for the fuel pump 12 or 14 gauge. TIA Ted Schmidt

Well i've figured out the tail light question. It seems one of the previous owners bought a center tail light for the vehicle. I personally think this is hideous so i'm off to nissan tom hoping they have the little grey light cover in stock. If not i'm going to run to local junkyard and pick one up. Bad thing is though the car has had a paint job since it was put on so underneath the tail light cover it is not the correct color. On the shifter question I think i'll look at some junk yard cars or i might just bend this one. But pls give me so more ideas on the shifter. Thanks Ted Schmidt

Just wanted to say hi to everyone. Picked up my 83' 280zx n/a yesterday. It has 171k miles on it and runs perfectly This car has really been taken car of. Well my first question is my rear tail lights are the unibrow type w/ the 280zx logo in the middle. The license plate goes onto the bumper. My question is what 280zx came w/ this type of taillight? I've looked at all the pictures I could and haven't seen anyone with the same taillights as I have (I do not have a camera to take a pic of it). My second question is about the shifter. It seems to me the shifter is angled alittle bit forward. Almost looks like the car is in third when its in neutral. From the 280zx's i have seen in the past i don't think it is suppose to be this way. I've taken the shift boot off and looked at the shaft it does not look to be unnaturally bent. Has anybody experienced a problem like this? TIA Ted Schmidt
