Well shucks. Happy b-day mr.hybridz.org Just wanted to say thanks to all the people that made this site happen. It is the only forum that I can read everyday with out saying why do I waste my time reading this crap. Thanks again Ted

So what do you guys think was the biggest effect on the torque dropping off so fast, the starion intercooler or the stock turbo? Both the intercooler and turbo are in great shape. I am about to buy a large npr intercooler so hopefully that will help the hot intake temps. Although there is only so much a good intercooler can do with a t3 at 20-18psi:twisted: I'm thinking about changing the cars name to Torque Spike Monster what do you guys think? Ted Schmidt

I went to the dyno on saturday and finally got a better idea of my torque curve. Boy was I surprised. There are two runs on each page. One page shows max torque and the other shows max horsepower. The lighter line is hard too see but it is at the lower boost setting. Although less power it doesn't have the big dip in power at 4500 rpms. My last graph shows my boost graph and a/f ratio. My a/f at first was 11:1 so I lower my fuel pressure to get it between 12:1-11.5:1. I also found out i've been shifting about 1k rpms to late in 2nd and 3rd so this should help alittle at the track. If you want a better copy give me your e-mail address and i'll send it to you. Make sure you can accept images up to 10mb. Later

*cough* Any help would be appreciated. TIA

Well I just found out that a local speed shop is doing a dyno day. It will be a dynapack dyno with a wideband sensor. I am mostly tuning to get my air/fuel ratio above 10:1 and below 13:1. I can adjust ignition timing, base fuel pressure, air flap spring tension, and intial setting of the needle in air flow meter. I have never dyno tuned b4 so I am uncertain on what will do what to the air/fuel ratio gauge. The fuel pressure should make the entire air/fuel ratio line move up or down. The timing will have no effect except to be able to run a leaner ratio. The air flow meter needle will also move the line up or down. The air flap spring tensioner should make the line bend or curve more towards rich or lean at high rpms with less of a effect on lower rpms. If all my assumptions are correct then I should be able to acheive my goals. My question is if my assumptions are correct what should I adjust first, and what other ways should I tune while on the dyno. Thanks Ted Schmidt

Could somebody please put a link to this article. Any help is much appreciated. -
Yepo it was blue. No problems here. I still had a blast, although there was a lot of oil spills so lots of track cleaning. Hopefully we can get ole blue tuned by 28th. C-ya tom at work. L8r

Well I just did alittle unplanned run to the local drag track just for fun b4 some new parts came and I was pleasantly surprised. Last time I ran a 13.278 @103.13. That run was perfect with no spinning or bogging. Tonight I ran a best of 12.797 @ 107.51 With a fairly big bog. My main problem is my boost lag in first gear is full boost 13psi at 4,200 (i'm working on it). My 60ft never got into the sub 2.0's like they did last time, but I did pick up alot of mph over last time. Next time I go I should have a new fuel rail and fuel pump and of course more boost:twisted: . Well I had a blast. Next time I'm heading out there will be the 28th with the houston gang. All are welcome. Oh and olie showed up tonight he ran great for being na with just an intake and higher compression but i'll let him post times if he wants. I also saw a 10.1 @13?.00 mkiv supra out there. His mph at the 1/8 mile was 107. It was real nice ride but he didn't have a roll cage so it was banned from running again. Later

HOLY RED VELVET BATMAN:shock: J/K Nice Ride!!!

I second drax240z. Sorry olie but i don't think you can run over 10:1 and have anything over 3psi. You could run the 8.7:1 comp ratio and probably 10-15psi safely. Don't forget stock turbo's comp ration is 7.38:1 and na's are 8.52:1. That would be a sweet high 12, low 13 second 280z then. Oh let me know when you want to come over tom night so we can put your rear end in. L8r

I am looking to replace my tires. I have found a great deal on Michelin Pilot XGT H4's size 235/60 r15 for $70. Or I can buy BFGoodrich g-force Sport's size 225/60 r15 for $79. My questions is what tire will give me better straight line traction? Will the larger tire do it or the stickier tire? Also has anybody ever put 235's on the stock turbo 15 x 6 rims? Thanks for your time.

Scottie thanks for the detailed answer. It looks like I was actually at 22º inital timing on an 83 ecu. So I advanced to 1º over stock so its at 25º. I had to lower the boost to 13 psi to get it not to ping. I think my limitation right now is my stock fuel pump, although I did rewire it with a relay and 10 gauge wire. So intill I get an aftermarket fuel pump I will be at 13 psi. I also have some intercooler piping on the way to redo my ghetto galvaniced(sp) plumbing pipe I am running right now. Soon my car will no longer be ghetto beast. Just UGLY BEAST!!!!

Well congrats. I am diagnosing I similar problem on my friends car. So I hope I find a cheaper problem then the injectors.

Drag racing with Falken Azenis Sport tires..
Thumper replied to a topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
I had these tires on my miata that I ran in soloII class CSP. They work great as autoxing tires. I also went to the drag strip once with the car for fun and was turning 2.2 60ft times nothing great but not bad at all. I took them off and ran on my stock tires and my 60ft times jumped to 2.4's. So they do hook up fairly well. Although my torque was closer to 110-120 not 250. I was also running 205/50 r15. -
Well I forgot to use that gosh darn search thingymagig and it answered my question. And for some reason I can't delete my post although no one replyed to it.

Like the title says. I can run either 27 degrees timing with 13-14psi or 24 degrees timing with 14-15psi. My question is what settings will make me faster in the qt mile or on the top end. I will be going to the dyno one of these days but intill then my butt dyno is not sensitive enough to feel a difference. TIA Ted

Still no start, car cranks, fuel, spark but...
Thumper replied to EZ-E's topic in Trouble Shooting / General Engine
Just to make sure we are talking about the same switch. The head temp switch is on the passenger side of the engine compartment alittle bit above the starter. There is also I coolant temp switch and coolant gauge switch in the thremostat housing. I am talking about the head temp switch over by the starter. If this is not the case then I would take off the fuel rail and see why you are getting too much fuel. Maybe a faulty injector or wiring. Hope this helps. -

Thumper replied to EZ-E's topic in Trouble Shooting / General Engine
I had the same problem on my turbo and it turned out to be the head temp swith. Make sure is connected. And if it is then replace it. It is about 55 dollars at a nissan dealership. I am 90% sure this is your problem. Good Luck -
I don't think the z design studio is broken. It doesn't work on my computer but on my girlfriends it does. Only diff between our computers is that I have upgraded to sp2 and she hasn't. The site hasn't worked ever since I upgraded to xp service pack 2. If you have upgraded then try a comp that hasn't. Hope this helps. Ted Schmidt

$40 dollars at home depot. Don't forget the air/fuel ratio gauge held on by duct tape . -
Been there, done that, got the t-shirt . http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=96503 And my car weighed 2570lbs (2730 with me in it). I know no one really knows me here except maybe mike (on3go). So i'm not taking it too heart, but I still don't like having to prove myself. But unfortantely we do not live in a world where everyone tells the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. I have since put on an intercooler, redid my fuel pump wiring, and right now i'm installing my 370cc injectors. So the next time i'm at the track i will be in the 12s. Next time I go to houston raceway I will bring my friend and his video camera cause I want to see this thing lauch my self (21yr old stock suspension ) . And too put everyone at ease. Happy Motoring.
