  1. I saw a silver 280z today, parked in the same parking lot as mine at UH. I'm going to hunt him down and get him to pop the hood.

    my z again

me and my z on top of a parking garage.
  4. bonus points to whoever can guess exactly where that is...
  5. This is my z about a year ago at my first autocross.
  6. wow thanks alot. that is exactly what I needed! -Oliver
  7. I have a momo prototipo wheel that i got from a friend for free... only problem is, it suffered years in his 914 and now the leather is all chewed up. I want to cover it in suede, but I don't really know where to begin. So far I plan on buying some suede from tandyleather.com and wrapping it around the old leather and sewing it. This will make the steering wheel a little thicker, since its already on the thin side. Problem is I don't know how to do any of that, I just know I have to do it. Can anyone give me tips on how to cut and fit the leather on to the steering wheel? Thanks -Oliver
  8. Hello, I was just wondering how much i can change by slotting the holes in the strut tower? I need to correct .8 degrees of positive camber and turn it into -1 degree. thanks -Oliver
  9. check your differential mounting points, that is the easiest of the rear end sounds to fix. replace bushings as necessary. If everything checks out, move on to the U-joints in all three driveshafts. replace u-joints as necessary After that check the differential for slop. You can do this by jacking up one side of the car, and with the car in gear, without the parking brake on, rotate the wheel back and forth by hand and see how much it moves. If it moves alot, then your differential is just loose, as are most z differentials. You may want to check a Junk yard for a tight differential, but they are rather rare around my junk yards. Hope some of that helped. -Oliver
  10. you adjust the fuel pressure with an adjustable FPR - Fuel Pressure Regulator. Look in the victoria british and Motorsport auto catalogs for these. You may even have one if you say your car came with alot of "goodies". I suggest you do some reading on these carbs, and do a few searches on this site for what you're asking. Almost anything you can think of for Z's has been discussed before. -Oliver
  11. My best guess for what this guy is selling you with this car is a R200 with a 3.54:1 gear ratio and the nismo LSD unit in it. R192 seems too rare to be in a Z, as is almost anything off a 432. The nismo LSD unit is available for the R200 and R180, and since both came with the 3.54 gear ratio. there is only one way left to tell what it is. (pictures...) -Oliver
  12. are you saying that at some point you will need to run the exhaust under the floor pan, leaving you with 2" of ground clearance? if that is the case I would deffinitely consider another option, such as oval or rectangular pipes as you mention. The exhaust on my z sits about 4 inches off the ground and I always hear a light scrape over the larger bumps around here. don't know if that helped. BTW do you have any pics of your car? i'd like to see the full tube setup and the suspension you have. -Oliver
  13. For the past two days my transmission has been making a light, and random ticking noise, mostly in second gear, sometimes in first gear and sometimes in neutral. It sounds like there is a small piece of metal being kicked around in there, but it only happens every once in a while. i also notice my first gear has been making a whining noise as I accelerate through it. There is no difference in shifter feel if anyone is wondering, it still feels as good as it has in the past. Should I be worried? This is a junkyard tranny off a 79 280zx with about 130,000 miles on it.
  14. http://www.classiczcars.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=3136 thats not the remote reservoir setup but it is a bilstein threaded strut, which is what I think you are looking at. I say start looking for spare struts to play with and a set of bilstein struts and your good to go.
  15. johnc are you saying to solidly mount the engine so it will be an effective brace between the front crossmember and the tranny tunnel? I remember seeing a motorcycle that did not have a complete frame, but instead the front suspension and rear suspension bolted to various points on the engine... same concept? -Oliver
  16. 944 + ls1 + t-56 + stock transaxle... more gears than an 18 wheeler!!
  17. ok I'm reading this of the fuel injection bible, and I'm assuming this is what you need, so I will post: acceptable ohm range for coolant temp sensor: -18*F= 7600-10800 ohms 50*F= 3250-4150 ohms 68*F= 2250-2750 ohms 122*F= 740-940 ohms 176*F= 290-360 ohms -Oliver
  18. Ted, I don't know if I told you this but when they measured my caster, it was 2.9* with the g-machines bushing kit (solid aluminum cup and plastic ball). For reference, it was 2.1* with the stock rubber bushings. You would not be very far off from your ideal 4* if you got this kit...

  20. You should change the title of the post to kaminari instead of kamiari... I came looking for a crazy japanese body kit. -Oliver
  21. I'm starting to look for a good laptop to use for megasquirt, among other things. I want a bare bones set up. This is not going to be a jukebox, i plan to only go on the internet with it occasionaly write papers, and When I get the MegaSquirt set up, tune my car with it. From what I've read, Megasquirt connects with a serial port? Can anyone recommend a good laptop to buy used? I'm looking for something under $300. I would also be willing to run win98 on it if it works better with the megasquirt software. thanks -Oliver
  22. YAY ted finally has a z thats running again!! its your turn now mike... haha cant wait to see this thing run tonight.
  23. i already took a peek at what pepboys and autozone had in the "performance suspension" section and i didn't see anything that even resembled a bump-stop, except for the jeep kind, where its attached to the chassis and limits the travel of the control arm. This is what i'm trying to make... but i didn't find at autozone or pep boys... http://store.summitracing.com/default.asp?Ntt=springs&Ntk=KeywordSearch&DDS=1&searchinresults=false&N=0&target=egnsearch.asp
  24. I forgot to order the bumpstops from victoria british and I am going to put all my bushings in (and tokico illuminas) in the front suspension, So instead of having to wait to order some, or leave them out all together, or take apart my suspension again... I was wondering if there was something out there to make bumpstops out of. Something probably available at homedepot or lowes. anyone have any ideas? -Oliver
  25. ok now I know what you're saying Mom'sZ. I guess the only way to check that is to take everything off and take measurements around the spindle?
