  1. 2+2? iguess... (hopefully the 2+2 guys won't see this and make it into a 2+2vs. coupe thread)
  2. I don't even remember what my original plan for my car was anymore, all I know is that it's changed alot since then. I think i wanted to go 3.1l at first, I got to the n/a stage, and now I want an LS1... I would say not planning very much to begin with has caused the "while I'm here syndrome" and I know it happened to mike. (on3go) Blew the headgasket and (while i'm here) ended up rebuilding the whole engine... lol! -Oliver
  3. 1bad180sx: You're right about the twisting of the engine and tranny. I know my shifter moves over alot as the torque is laid down. The thing with the ferrari's though, is that it most likely has a linkage that bolts to the body. That's why it makes more sense to have one on a ferrari. Z car? only if there was a seperate linkage involved imho. -Oliver
  4. i'll remember next time I go, sleeperz. I might even be there next weekend.
  5. Several finds out there... 2 crx si (ganked the seats out of one) 91 civic si (friend needed some parts) 87 300zx (nothing special but a z...) 87 300zx 2+2 87 200sx seV6 (I didn't know these existed (are these the ones with 4.11?)) several 240sx's none with lsd several mk1 mr2's usualy theres 1 or 2 zcars and 3-4 280zx's but none this time. I also wanna let everyone know (around houston area) that that junkyard will be having a half price sale on everything on new years eve (or new years day) so engines are 50 bucks and seats are 10 bucks... so on.... BTW: this is the junkyard off west road and I-45 -Oliver
  6. Ok, I just thought about this cus I took a 5 speed back to the junkyard for the core charge and I have a 4 speed sitting in my garage... I know trannys have a constant mesh on the gears, (or at least i think thats how they work) so does it make sense that a 4 speed has less gears to spin therefore less rotating mass? Also you have the gears creating drag through the gear oil... Fewer gears= less drag? Obviously theres a reason why the bennifits of 5spd outweigh the extra spinning gear since they are more common, but am i thinking correct in my weight and drag theories? -Oliver
  7. I'm 川添 Kawazoe (riverside) 雄大 Masahiro (big hero) Is anyone else wondering why Masahiro came up for someone not named Oliver?
  8. hehehe heres the before pic: and the after pic let me know what ya think! -Oliver
  9. did you get all that from rock auto? lemme know when you start putting it together... I could prob. help out.
  10. how does it reduce the throw if it uses the stock pivot location? Changing the pivot location seems to be the only way to decrease the throw. -Oliver
  11. I'm glad to see the blue z will be back on the road again! (too bad the oc meet is shut down) All those parts are available at http://www.rockauto.com for a decent price (compared with autozone) and I have had nothing but good experiences with them. I even have a discount code valid up till december 7th that you can use with them... I'll pm that to you. In my experience; when swapping trannies use the throwout bearing collar and throwout bearing that came off the original tranny/clutch combo, unless you plan on using a different clutch/flywheel combo, in which case you should use the corresponding throwout bearing and colar for that clutch and flywheel. Idk if that made any sense... get that z on the road! -Oliver
  12. don't tell the insurance company, get another z and swap vins, plates, and parts...
  13. does anyone else remember when there was a picture of a 280yz with miata headlights molded in? (maybe i'm just going crazy)
  14. heres the link for the mjp g-nose; https://www.internetsecureserver.com/mjpauto/p83.html I REALY like that look for the 280zx (g-nose), It realy makes me wanna get one!!! CHEWIVETTE: I think you should go for the v8 engine swap before you do body work, primarily because you probably won't enjoy a slow car that looks fast. when you get in the car and drive it you can't even see the body, so why do that first? (thats my mentality on modding cars) Also, the car you drew looks more like a yz rear flared early z with a roll pan, convertible kit and zx tails, imo. Either way it looks cool and you have an idea of what you want to do with your car. -Oliver
  15. That would be cool mike, I'm thinking some dark color, like midnight blue or just black. Only problem would be when waxin' time comes around. (i'm lazy... lol) I'll probably do that until mike learns how to paint. Thanks for the replies guys! -Oliver
  16. No it won't physicaly fit, mainly because the early z fenders have more space towards the hood, and a narrower hood, where the zx fenders hardly have any horizontal area next to the hood, and the hood takes up most of the space. Another thing to consider is that early z's have a large grille panel by the windshield (not sure what the technical name for it is) and zx's just have the hood going up to that area and very little grill section. To answer your question, yes it's possible with alot of massaging (have you seen the z front end on the 240sx's?) but in my opinion, the early z front end has too many curves for the boxy zx body. One thing I've dreamed up on a zx is having the open mouth look that alot of z's (including mine) have. I would achieve this by having an airdam and taking of the bumper but leaving the original hood and headlight buckets in place. I actualy think I saw this done once before. Welcome to the forum! -Oliver
  17. ...if they were any bigger and clearer, you'd be able to see my sucky paint job...
  18. here are some pics of my z... Let me know what ya think -Oliver
  19. i'll give it a shot... The pinion shaft (#1) is allowed to push to the right or left. Because of the shape of v-grooves (#2) in the pressure rings (#'s 3 and 4), whenever the pinion shaft shifts position, lets say left for acceleration and right for decceleration, the pinion shaft will push against the v-grooves, causing the pressure rings to separate with a force. The force that they have when they separate goes into pushing the clutch discs (not pictured) against the differential case and thus limiting the amount of differentiation between the two wheels. Can someone explain it better? Eh- I tried... -Oliver
  20. I guess i shouldn't be complaining about the price, there are others out there worse off than me Oh well, I guess its kinda like I don't know what i'm missing... like my manager once told me that he put 89 octane into his civic si one day and it freaked out and ever since he's put nothing but 93. I'm just going to pretend like my car will freak too, if I go below 93, and never pump anything lower. Its all in my head...
  21. cool, i think i'll buy it and see what happens. I'm hoping it will last a couple of years...
  22. Hey guys, I came upon a used header for a pretty decent price, I was wondering if it is worth it to buy one and then weld up a few little holes here and there, or should I just start with a new header. I notice alot of people have to mess with their new headers for fitment anyways, so how would "rebuilding" a used header work in the long run? Thanks, -Oliver
  23. I'm glad we got this post moving....
  24. heres some good info on fiberglass body molding: http://www.hotrodder.com/32Blowpar/page11.html
