  1. There is alot of info if you search for it, all you have to do is type in mr2 and 280z in the brakes, wheels suspension category and you should get what your looking. Don't forget to click on the "search all terms" feature. Welcome to the forum!
  2. http://www.gordon-glasgow.org/lsd1.asp That website describes the parts and operation of a clutch type nissan lsd, wich i think can be applied to the 300zx 3.70 lsd. Based on the pictures on that website, I believe it is a 2 way, because the pinion shaft sits in the pressure ring with corresponding "v" shapes, so acceleration and decceleration would provide similar amounts of pressure against the clutches. Although after reading more of the website I wonder if he is talking about some LSD's that they make for the r200, or stock LSD units....
  3. I went to the gas station today after school and looked at the prices for gas... $1.75 for 89 octane and $1.86 for 93. I picked up the handle and thought if I should try 89 and see how my engine did, but I just couldn't do it... not for a few bucks anyways. But what are your opinions with my set up... I think 91 is medium grade around here, but should I even bother to risk it? It's realy a psychological thing with me... LOL I NEED HELP -Oliver
  4. I read this post: http://hybridz.org/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=6715&highlight=wheel+widening Could wheel widening be done on the turbo swastica's by cutting out the center section and drilling holes to bolt on custom shells? That would make it a 3 piece wheel with an alloy center section, and wheel shells can be made in any size, so I could have something like 16x10 wheels with swastica looks and a decent lip. (i'm not content with the <1" lip on my swastica's now) I'm thinkin something like these wheels but with swastica center: http://www.balancedperformance.com/photos/wall1.gif
  5. Posted this on zcar.com and didn't get what I needed... I pulled a '81 280zx digital clock (the quartz one with the lap timer) from the J/Y. I don't know where the wires are supposed to go... There are four wires comming out of the back of the clock: solid black, blue with red stripe, green with white stripe, blue with white stripe. Where do I have to hook these wires up so it will work... (in a 280z) I'm guessing one has to go to ground, one to switched power and one to continuous power and IDK about the other one. I don't want to fry the clock by running it the wrong way... Please help.... thanks. (anyone with detailed zx wiring diagrams??)

    HEADER DIFFERENces?

I'm also looking into buying a header, the one on my previous engine was a pacesetter POS. Never buying that again. What is the consensus on best fitment? Jon, you said the msa 6-2-1 is also a POS? That was probably the one I would get because they advertise a "thick flange," something the pacesetter lacked (it required spacers). So has anyone else had problems with the MSA header?
  7. I've never seen one of these mufflers in real life, but is the outlet on the markII just those two little 20mm wide pipes? anyone else see what i'm talking about? Looks kinda restrictive.
  8. I'm not suggesting that you use the old fuel AT ALL, but I think such a product is available...
  9. 4 speed on an sr? for nostalgia I guess. Your also gonna have to fabricate up one of those adaptor plate thingies to go between the 4 speed and the engine.... ...or just go with the 5 speed
  10. That car + Ls1 = ultimate sleeper Don't modify the exterior and no one will know... 8)
  11. My car is a 77 and all they did to test my car was perform a safety check (seatbelts, lights, wipers) and then they drove it to test the brakes. They also made me start up the engine with the hood open and they just kinda snooped around the hood. Total cost: $13 BTW: why does your 78 have SU's?!?!
  12. I think if it was used with a g-nose it would probably work a little better...
  13. your compression seems ok: http://hybridz.org/nuke/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=18789&highlight=compression+test http://hybridz.org/nuke/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=14440&highlight=compression+test
  14. Jay, Sorry to hear about your Z problems. I too had to make the trek from austin to houston with my z when I first bought it. (I can sympathize) I have a spare 4 speed laying around you can have... I would be willing to help you remove your old one and install the 4 speed. If you don't want to deal with a four speed, I don't know if you've been to any of the junk yards around town but the pick a part I go to always has about 4 zx's with 5 speeds you can pull. I got mine for $65. Anyway, just pm me and let me know if you want me to help out.
  15. It's exactly what I imagined.... Did those tail lights come on any of the american zx's? If they did what years? remember this thread? http://hybridz.org/nuke/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=36206&highlight=
  16. tbs, any updates on your dohc z head project? Jon, I went through that exact same thought process when that undrilled dohc head came up on this website, I thought, why spend money on a head that costs as much as a bad ass engine swap would? -It doesn't apeal to the low funds crowd.
  17. My friend and I finaly got around to buying a compression tester from oreilly's after saying we would for a year... Here are the results from my engine in psi's 1: 210 2: 210 3: 210 4: 230 5: 210 6: 210 I checked #4 several times to make sure that number was right. Any suggestions for what that cylinder is doing? BTW I have flat-tops with an N42 head, so 10:1 cr.
  18. That front airdam looks very similar to the plain fiberglass one offered by victoria british...
  19. It would be far from a bolt on in anyway. Below is the link to a website of these people that put a supra IRS under a '65 mustang. You will probably have to do something similar to what they did if you are planning on using the whole IRS. http://www.suprang.com/suprang3.html
  20. Any more pics of that car? I am one who would like to do itb's (if i could afford it...)
  21. LOL yeah, I still got a realy good deal on the ziexes, so I justify shittyness with low price. next tires I get are deff. going to be azenis or some other reputable autocross tire. BTW: I came in dead last at the autox! Oh well, can't expect much with only 4 events under my belt... and also it was a porsche event... Highly competitive.
  22. If anyone remembers, a while ago I posted a topic about how falken ziexes would do on autocross and street situations. I put the ziexes on the car and went autocrossing today so I can tell everyone how they did... Pros: They don't cost very much ($200 for all four) As soon as I mounted and balanced these tires they were 100% better than any other tires I've had on the car. All my vibrations went away, so I can now cruise at 80mph without thinking my car's gonna fall apart. Cons: Ziexes are pretty bad for autocrossing. They are much better than old shitty 195/50 14's but they slide around alot more than I think they should. These tires wear down fast... I think I put about 2-3 months of wear on these tires in about 8min total (we got 8 runs with a little less than a minute for each run) so the conclusion is that I will get much better tires for autocrossing, such as the Azenis I kinda wanted at first but didn't get and just keep these for the street.
  23. How stuff works has an excelent little animation about the catch can (overflow, piss tank, whatever you wanna call it) http://auto.howstuffworks.com/cooling-system7.htm
