  2. They did rally Z cars you know, in 2wd... http://www2.zhome.com:81/History/rally.htm It sounds like all you want to do is build a car to wail on in a field. If that's the case, you could put an LSD in it (or weld the diff) and be just fine. We used to play with an '86 Cutlass in a friend's field, with a 305 4bbl and an open diff. It moved plenty fast for messing around in a field, trust me.
  3. DAMN the white car looks good. Is that turbo stripe down near the rocker factory? I can't remember ever seeing one before (or maybe I didn't notice it, it's quite dramatic/good looking against the white).
  4. Yeah, I dig the valve cover too. Who's signature is on the wheel? Doesn't look like Bob Sharp to me, but I can't read it either.

  8. And it's a roadster now! Yeah, this one won't be saved. I was a *tad* mislead about it's condition when I went to get it. Ugh. It shall die so that others may live, but I'm taking pretty much everything I can off of it just in case I, or someone else, may need it. So if you need something... let me know. Got a complete good roof with T-tops that don't leak!

  10. Interesting idea. My 300 is a pillarless hardtop, the way Chrysler went about it was to have a stainless steel piece with some felt on it extend out from the edge of the window on both the door and quarter window and have them just overlap each other when the door was closed. The quarter window goes down diagonally instead of straight up and down as well. I don't think there's enough room in the Z quarter panel for that window to go down though- maybe it could slide backwards at an angle into the C-pillar?
  11. Yeah, I had something similar at the DMV myself in Cali. They didn't want any information from me, just a few bucks and I had a temp plate. Weird.

  14. I don't have any pictures, but someone local to me has built one with a Chrysler 340/4-speed in it. If it pops up again I'll take a picture for you guys.
  15. Nope. I had no option but to forfeit it to the impound lot and it was bought by someone else for $300 who parted it out. I wish every single day that I had it. Or at least another 1st gen Celica. I'm just saying- Be careful, and expect the unexpected. I hope you make your trip in one piece- and you probably will. This was the exception, not the rule, let it be a lesson though. I'll get my Celica again someday, somehow.

  18. Lots of great tips in this thread. I tried to make a similar run last August from LA to Detroit after having made Detroit to LA in an old Cherokee, as I bought a Celica in San Francisco. I made it to LA, drove around LA for a two days, and the day before I was leaving LA to head home, this happened... Of course, it happened after I spent a considerable amount of time/money/effort making sure it was capable of the trip back to Detroit. $4000 down the toilet for 5 glorious days of the car I'd wanted for so long. So be careful, I wish you much luck.
