  1. I was just going to ask" What does the other side look like?". It is always amazing to me to see hardened materials fail. It appear there was a large amount of plastic deformation prior to the catastrophic failure. Was this driver or passenger side. What diff do you run LSD/WELDED/OPEN? You know I wonder why it twisted there rather than the CV shaft axle going into the diff. I wonder if the cv shaft splined portion is starting to show the same deformation. More pics as you get time please. Interesting stuff. Joe
  2. Do you think the upgrade to 295/50/16s contributed to the failure?
  3. Like BLKMAGIC says go to the junk yard and pull a taurus fan. Take it shroud and all. They come out very easy. Cut the wires so that it includes the plug. Hand the dude a $20 dollar bill and laugh all the way home.
  4. Oh good another good joke of the day!!!!
  5. Congrats Man. No matter what happens they cant take away that feeling of accomplishment. Good Job!!!!!
  6. Man i couldnt believe that thing was FWD. So I went to the website. Jan issue page 44. Unbelievable! http://streettrenz.flipcontent.com/2007/Jan/index.html
  7. I had a similar issue. Wrong pickup/wrong pan. Anyway had to take it apart after my first quick trip. My mains were wiped so after cleaning and blowing I replace them and the rod bearings. Surprisingly the cam bearings were fine. Had the cam checked at the machine shop.
  8. What is your route home? Any gas stop in virginia?
  9. I just put pricing and pictures in the classified ad. Lots of cheap rubber. 1st come 1st serve. Some of these tires only have a couple laps on them.
  10. I have decided to find some used rubber for my 16" rims. It is the cheaper way to go for me. That being said I have a source for 17" Hoosiers from a Grand AM team local here. They use 17/40/245s for the front on 8 inch rims and 17/40/275 on 9.5 inch rims for the rears mostly Hoosiers. I will get pricing if anyone is interested and will also post in the classifieds. Shipping will be from 23693 Joe
  11. HMMM OK I am confused. Guess I will have to look it up. Of course I am not going to go racing scca and nasa anytime soon. May do some DEs. So I am sure that if there are rules like that it applies to competition events only. But there has to be a reason for such a rule if it exists. What are bad about spacers. Does it put extra stress on the hubs/studds? Does it run a greater risk of breaking. Is there some reason not to run spacers? I am still leaning towards Diamond Racing Steelies because I want a 10" rim.
  12. After adding the cost of adapters and the fact that they are not recommended for racing I am going to give Diamond Racing wheels a call. The are steel and heavy but I can get the right size for under $150 a wheel. I will check out the tires hard and see if they are fit to be sold. I think most are hoosiers r series.
  13. Adapters? Spacer Plates? When I say honda rims I mean they sell alot of rims to fit honda they usually have 2 bolt patterns on one rim 4x100 and 4x 114.3 which is 4x4.5. They all have 40 - 45mm offset so I need to buy a spacer that is equal to the offset to bring it back to 0. Is this correct?
  14. So I have done some searching and had to post. I have a hookup on 17" used racing slicks 245/40s and 275/40s. All I could ever use. Like a tractor trailor load half full. I am trying to find an inexpensive means to mount them on my 78. I have coilovers and flares. Everything I see in a 17 with a 4x114.3 is made for honda with a 40-45 mm offset. Which would place the tire way inside the well. Need something with a 0 offset for under $500 a set. New used oem doesnt matter. Just trying to get some race rubber on for the local time attack
  15. Yeah trwebb that was my thought as well. Took me several builds to be able to get it done right the first time. I could always tell when I did not have it right as I would advance the dizzy so much I would have fire coming out of the intake horns. My guess is Chain is right and the oil pump shaft is one tooth off. Not at the 11:30 position.
  16. I will be watching this one. Where did you get your turbo from? How Much?
  17. Good story. Please add more to the saga. Pics on the passenger please posing in the passenger seat in the described attire.
  18. What is the best way to remove and replace wheel studs? I want to buy extra long wheel studs. Where can you get them? Thanks
  19. Hey wait a minute!!! I welded that!!!
  20. Thanks Pyro et al. I like hearing about the weaknesses. Traction issues and keeping the internal together. I also noticed that the guy driving the cobra would shift alot earlier than I. Probably about 1000rpm sooner. I also like hearing about what the ooponents might do to remedy their weaknesses. That way we can look for things in th negotiaion. I knew li'l ole 350 would not hang with the same cubes with forced induction. So like you guys said the next option would be spray or forced. The only other option is to pick on someone your own size. Good thread!!
  21. Guess this is the wrong forum and will search and post in the FORD forum. But has anyone put the DOHC Blown cobra motor in a z car? It looks really wide not sure if it will fit.
  22. 1st gen sbc 78 280 2850 lbs without driver dyno 283 rwhp @4500rpm 330 ft/lbs tq rw http://album.hybridz.org/showgallery.php?ppuser=9446&cat=500 Hey dont get me wrong. He has got 10 times the money in his car. It ought to go quicker. sbf DOHC with a Blower !!! His real issue would be grip. I could probably beat him from a dig but from 45mph roll. Nope
