Lubricant and seal compatability... Interesting find...
Mikelly replied to Mikelly's topic in Miscellaneous Tech
Doug, it had about 1000 miles on it when I noticed it before, BUT it was abvious that it had been doing it for some time, due to the dirt, and mess in the area around the axles and differential covers... Mike 8) -

As most of you know, I'm now the owner of a C5 corvette. The Car had axle seals leaking fluid, which is covered in a known TSB from GM. I swapped to the newer and more improved seals, and filled the trans and differential with Redline synthetics... and the seals started leaking again... as did the trans to differential seal (Tranny is connected to the diff at the REAR of the car!). I did some research and found that redline is ester based, and will cause some newer seals to swell and cause leaking. I swapped everything over to AMSOIL (THANK YOU DOUG CARROW, MY AMSOIL DEALER!!! ) and I've put two hundred miles on the car with NO LEAKS! I'm done with redline... i'll be using AMSOIL in everything I own from now on... I'm also gonna become a dealer! Mike 8) -
Forrest, I agree with a portion of your comments, that of training and education, however... AGE generally equals experience. Every siingle accident I had before I was 19 years old could be avoided if I were the driver I am now. I live with and deal with two teen age drivers who think they are the best drivers on the planet... Gee, no need for seat time I guess, and lets just forget about training... Uh, No. Facts are facts... Generally speaking LACK of experience and a HUGE LACK of dscretion are the number one reason why auto accidents are the NUMBER ONE cause of teen deaths in America. Thinking anything less is just plain wrong. Mike 8)

Sure I'd ship it... Along with the extra set of wheels, six race slicks, and all duplicate panels, tank and misc. other parts... I'm asking $5500 and my bottom line is $5000... Includes factory manual, new carb sticks, headtube stand and rear stand... Bike has custom suspension, custom drive train, weighs 395# and made 131HP at the wheel when I bought it. ...and of course, you pay shipping! 8) Mike

So Donna threw me a pre-birthday Birthday party on the 3rd of July... Jamie, Doug, Pete, other non-hybridZ friends and some of our family members showed up for a cookout and general get together... Doug got here early and I had a chance to take him out for a little ride in my daily commuter before the rest of the group got there... I'll let doug explain his experience with TORQUE! So we ate, drank, ate, and drank some more, and by 9PM we were down to Doug, Pete, our friends Dennis and Sandy, and Donna and I... And pretty much that was it until about midnight, drinking, eating and having a good time... The subjects covered everything from v8 performance (Dennis has a Chriscraft twin screw 350/350 twin small blocks! !), to women, to construction, to motorcycles... They beat me down over the ZX9R and my use of knee sliders on the street! So I have officially put the bike in the cycletrader... You guys win. I'm unloading it! It was a good time, good friends, and a great day. The Bday will actually be the 7th, but we took advantage of the time off! Hope everyone had a good 4th of July and remembered why it is we have the ability to celebrate such a great occassion! GOD bless AMERICA! 8) Mike

Oh boy, did I get into some hot poop over beanie babies at work... 1997... THey had a raffle at work for the "princes di" beanie... I was so sick of the beanie baby craze... Well I bid on and won the baby and promtly took it home... and then to the range... I brought what was left of it back and placed the remains in a bag on one of the women's desks and told her it was a gift! Went over like a fart in church! Mike

Phailure, I removed the stock system from the vette and don't have the bose interface anymore, so no speed sensetive volume control in the vette anymore! For the rest of you guys, for 6+ years I owned a recording studio part time, and worked full time as the chief producer/ engineer for sound and Video for one of the CIA's Multimedia production centers... We made the "PEB" or presidential daily briefs on video (Paper versions were so talked about during the 9/11 hearings)... Anyway, I had a number of years of audiophile experience and was certified through the Sony Institute for sound theory. I know a thing or two about reproducing sound. What I'm getting to here is, I found it impossible to truly reproduce the kinda sound quality I wanted in ANY of my Zs over the last two decades and found that anything larger than a 10inch sub was over-powering in the Z, mainly due to the fact that the volume in the rear hatch, combined with the slope of the rear hatch, caused some reflective characteristics I wasn't real happy with. I also agree with the other recommendation to look at alternatives to 6X9s, but not because I don't like them. It boils down to placement, as well as the design. You need to match all the components based on the car, and the placement of each in it. However, the wind noise in that car, the thinner metal allowing engine and more specifically exhaust noise, will cause problems even with a LOT of dynomat. I also got tired of removing the sub box and amps every time I autoX'ed or track day'ed the car. I had some polk 6X9 plates I loved in one of the earlier Zs, but it wasn't garaged and the paper cones didn't hold up well... If the car isn't garaged, I'd look at something else for the cone material... also, I would avoid using a CD changer... Why add more complexity and wire to run? Buy a decent head unit that does CD, MP3 & WMA files so you don't have to carry 20-30 CDs with you... 10 hours of music on one disc certainly is more attractive to me! Mike

Just did 30 miles this morning on an easy solo ride... Last Saturday I clicked off a cool 49 miles with a group of cat3/cat4 roadies. I'm bounding back from some significant injuries and ilnesses over the last year, but I generally put 2K-3K miles per year on the road bike and over 1000 miles per year on the MTBs... Let me know what the price is and what design you come up with... I'd be game... Mike 8)

If you get a decent head unit (And I urge you to buy an MP3 version), you won't have as much of a need for amps... And I'd look into a powered sub-amp combo if you desire a little thump for your rump. I'm using some Boston Acoustic/ Blauphunks in the vette... two 6.5 three way cloth up front, and the same in the back, with a pioneer 6.5 inch powered sub in the rear. I'll do something similar with the Datsun IF I install a stereo in it. Mike

Driftn280, You have mentioned this twice now... I hate to break this to you, but you would have more money in the cost of the motor than you could go out and BUY any car within those means... Come up with an attainable goal, and use a powerplant that can A: Be serviced and or replaced with over the counter parts and B: Not be so unobtainable that you wouldn't want to drive it for fear of damaging it. As has been posted before... Milling a new L series block out of aluminum would be outragiously expensive (If you could get someone to even do it) and there would be no guarantees of proper coolant and oil passage configuration or flow. mike 8)

I would like to see posts like "What do I need to do to make my car.... so I'm happy with it. I don't know... Maybe if I had driven my V8 Z in the last oh Three years, I wouldn't be so down on it. But there has to be something to be said for being able to get in and drive your car, intead of working on it all the time, or making it go via human power. Make your car the way you want it, and don't worry about beating X car... Soon as you hit that mark, you'll need to set your sights higher... And to the youngsters in the group... Yea, you maynot think much of the creature comforts now, but trust me, the older you get, the more you will want them... I'll be 38 next Wednesday, and they mean more an more every year... I'm gonna go drive my "run of the mill, everybody owns one" Vette home from work now! Mike 8)

Bill, As I advised you, and told the other "Member", You had every right to take him to small claims court and get every dime back, including interest and cost, due to his "mis-representation" of his parts. Far as I'm concerned, And this is JUST MY PERSONAL opinion, But that Particular member is NOT the kind of member HybridZ wants in their "Family", and I hope that he will just excuse himself from our website... Based on the lies relayed, and then on his reaction to the fact that you wanted someone outsideof the situation to verify some of the technical info, he isn't the sort of person I'd want to give advice to, or get it from... And I certainly wouldn't buy ANYTHING from him or believe anything he states... This was a VERY disappointing situation and I'm glad you are able to "Make lemonade" from lemons... I locked the posts he made, so they could be used later if needed. Glad you got something for your efforts... Mike

Our Buddy, BLKMGK, who hasn't been around in a while, has converted his Supra from Twin Turbo to single, and has seen near 600HP at the wheels and has run low 10s in the quarter. I chat with him on a regular basis and he told me that he is having a custom head done for the supra right now... He also converted his car to the AEM standalone management system and has become so good at tuning that AEM is now using him as one of their beta testers... That car outran a buddie's YZF-R750 in a stop light run, and that guy is known to be a good racer in cars and on bike's, where Jim (BLKMGK) isn't known for his driving prowess! And the buddy on the bike... Just bought a Z... 06 that is... 2002 Z06 with 2100 miles on it... He paid $38K for it... They are very quick cars, and apparently easy to tweek, so not to many stock Supra TTs out there! Mike

And people wonder why I use the words EXTERMINATE and EXECUTE when talking about terrorists in general, and the fact that regardless WHO is at the helm of our ccountry, We must NOT lay down like CLINTON did and let this issue get swepped under the rug... I heard on the news that American view on the war in Iraq has changed... I hate the fact that our public has the attention span of a three year old on caffiene and sugar. It sickens me to think that when all is said and done, that ultimately those who planned and ordered the attacks will eventually NOT PAY with their own blood. Until Bin Ladden and the rest of those who have raised war against America are brought to justice and dealt with, my view of the world we live in, and our federal government, and the UN AND The EU will forever be changed. Those passengers did something most Americans wouldn't do... They got involved... I can see that statement pissing off people, But I base it on the fact that I see very few americans "Getting" involved now... I only see them sitting back like Sheeople and letting the extreme left and extreme right feed them the fodder pre-programed to sway public opinion. And Don't get me start on Michael Moore and his abomination of a movie... MIke

Could you beat a Z06? Yes. But you guys are comparing apples to oranges... One day in a C5, ANY C5 would change your minds about the car forever. A couple of guys on this board own them and, Not unlike the Z, if modified (Rather inexpensive to do so), you get into another whole ball game. Plus, I'm sorry, but the interior of the Z, the Size of the Z, and a couple of other factors absolutely put it behind the C5 in my mind. I've owned Zs every year since 1987, and I love them. But there is no comparison, and to truly understand what I'm getting at, you gotta spend some time in the C5. And don't get me started on resale... I can't unload my "Priceless" Z to save me, which is why I still have it... 'Cause lord knows I've tried... No, If I had the choice, I'd have another Vette sitting in the garage as a project, or buy myself a sedan and use my current daily driver Vette as the playtoy. Yea, a Z can beat a vette... Mike

Uh JOhn, I can jump in a Z06 and drive across country...Legally....and still knock down 12.4s and turn very impressive times at the road course... Ain't gonna be doing that in your sled bro! Bit if I had $31K... Mike

Owen, Get another compressor if you can swing it... And I lived in that suze (Maybe a little larger) garage with ONE car project for two years. I couldn't imagine Squeezing in a second car. My dream garage at our next place will be 40X60ft, one story, and will have a dyno bay if we can swing it. I'll also upgrade to a new lift and let this current unit go with the house we're in now. Mike

Damn David... YOu bought one of my next cars. I WILL own one of those... and a 64 Chevy Nova too! Get us some pics man! Mike

best tires for Z32 at Road Atlanta track?
Mikelly replied to a topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
There is a difference in the V700 and the Victoracer V700... I'd check with some of the guys who run track events, but the V700 is a rainspecific tire unless it is shaved... The vette guys preffer the Victoracer over the v700 and your car is in the same weight range... Mike 8) -
Pretty tall order there... Z06s aren't to be taken lightly... At 3100# AND turning 12.4 in the 1/4 bone stock (And hardley any are left that way) plan to spend your children's college fund... It can be done, just won't be cheap! Mike 8)

It would be nice if you would let us known the quality of the product... Others are on the fence waiting on your report before we order... Mike 8)
