The 75 and newer Zcars came with a catalytic converter. However, you should check in your state to see if your car qualifies for antique tags. You may be exempt from emissions if tagging it as a classic. Also, the COmmander 950 should allow you a great deal of tunability in helping with those emissions numbers. As for Porting, if your Dad was successful in doing it in the past, then the LT1 motor is a great candidate now as well... Tell your Dad to log onto Chevytalk.com and search the archives there, or send Grumpy some personal e-mails! Good luck and you are one lucky SOB for getting SuperDan's car! Mike

I don't know about Texas, but technically her parents are next in line to pay the bill... If she wasn't on their Policy and THEY let her drive THEIR car uninsured, then THEY are liable. Don't let your little bro let this drop... He could have been killed. That situation was a bad one and he couldn't do anything... However, when I'm riding my bike, my attitude is that I'm invisible to EVERYONE and I am VERY defensive... Still, you can't avoid some idiot running over you from behind like that... Mike

....It has been my experience when you start getting a lack of cooperation from a company for services you need customized, that a clear warning of failure to meet your expectations is a real reality. If worse comes to worse, I'll end up ordering the 1 3/4 block huggers from Flowtech... If this comes off and S&S comes through for us, I'll be glad to eat my crow, ketchup prefered on the side, but I'm not banking on it... John, your efforts are applauded... I'm sure it is frustrating dealing with these guys! Mike

Interesting question.... I have owned a recording studio, and two Zcar related businesses. I also have worked business developement for my current company, the second largest defense contractor in the world. The two words of advice I can give you are this: Research your product to make sure it is something the customer wants in a large enough quantity that it will be able to support you Make sure you listen to your customer and FULLY understand what they want from your company or product. If possible, Do HIS (Or Her) Job with YOUR product to try and fully understand his (Or Her) expectations... I plan at some point in the not so distant future to open up a full time business of my own without the need of a "Real" day job, but I'm not exactly sure doing what or when... Mike

This very topic has been batted around over on a Sport Bike webpage I've been frequenting lately. In Virginia it has been reported that Late model camaros, LArge Luxury SUXs (Infinity & BMW) and Porshce Boxxers have been implimented in the war on speeding and street racing. In my area of Virginia they have a task force set up to get a handle on Street racing and anyone caught street racing will spend Manditory time in Jail, no if and or but.... Crazy times we live in... OK Guys, I am searching for a brake rotor that is 5 bolt and is 10.75 diameter, and the hat depth is 2 inches.... I'm currently trying to use a 1984 Turbo 300ZX rotor (5 bolt) and it is atleast 1/2 inch to small with the 1.5 inch hat depth. The hat depth I can work around, but the diameter leaves a good 1/4 inch of pad overhang off the rotor... PLEASE, check your brake rotor diameters, and let me know what year diameter you have... 84-86 Turbo models are supposedly the same size based on the VB and MSA catalogs I have... Mike Kelly

....Crazy, my program director just came by and handed me an envelope... I'm being investigated for some alegations made by unhappy employees, yet the company just now gave me a HUGE salary increase... The irony in this...... Mike -

Well the issue with Donna gest to start over. We got the test results and the Hiedal Hernia wasn't there and the MASS that was evident in the CatCasn wasn't there in the upper GI. On top of that, her insurance company realy screwed up, mis-coded several procedures wrong, and billed us for about $800! She is sorting that out now and We have an appointment with my Dr. the day after we get back from MSA. Her pain is more intermitant now, but she still has spikes... Thanks for all the well wishes...means a lot to Donna and I both! Mike -
I thought he was talking about an L6 motor...My bad... Mike

The Viper Club and Corvette club BBs are having fun with this news... The Autoweek article is gonna have to be addressed by the other MAJOR auto publications... Several of them have been accused of tayloring test drives to favor HMS products... Hopefully the Rags will all jump on this news... Gonna be hard for them to ignore it now... Mike

Auxilery Don't take it personal man... I drive a 1990 Civic hatchback, and I love driving that little 3 colored hunk 'O junk! The plan is to actually do a big engine swap and a coil over kit AFTER the teenager in my house gets his license and moves past the Civic in his driving abilities. I'd like to GUTT the interior and put a cage in it and do some SCCA stuff down the road, but who knows! Too many irons in the fire right now!!! I think anyone doing true performance mods to their car is to be commended. Like I said before, the reality is that 98% of the kids out there are doing the sterio typical stickers and mufflers, with MAYBE an intake...and the rest is all show...Pedals, big tachometer, seatbelt pads, shift knobs and color coordinated shift boots... Because that is mainly all they can either afford, or have the ability to install, which is OK, until they start acting like they are the greatest race driver ever, and their car is realy a Diablo in Civic clothing. The fact that you have a sport bike says something about the fact that you know what REAL SPEED is! Rode my GSXR 62 miles into work this morning...THAT is serious fun! Mike Mike

Jade, welcome... What the above posters said is SPOT on. I caution against buying a remanufactured unit, and if you have to get one, stay away from SuperTrak. Their electrical components have caused me great headaches in the past... New is better, and if you can afford Nissan, even better still. Goodluck and welcome! Mike -

Jim, Read your e-mail. This thing is going into the week four mark, with me being re-assigned for three weeks now... Tasking has been VERY minimal and one would think that they would want to get some productivety out of an employee making the kind of change I make.... I'm litteraly bored out of my mind... What's worse is the internet connection at work is so slow, I can't even fill the day with internet surfing distractions... Mike -
From 1987-1994 I drove many Zs that had either the SU or the 4 BBl. intake. When I swapped an 1975 motor into my car, it had the FI harness and everything needed to run fuel injection. We swapped the motor into a 74 260Z, and this motor had flat top pistons, a nice fat cam and a header. Car ran increadibly. No more drama with intermittant good and BAD running carbs, or bad fuel to air mixture. My recommendation is to find a good intake, wiring harness and computer/ sensors and swap it in. Make sure the intake is compatible with your current head configuration. When I DID run the 4 BBl. setup, the only carb that ran well on the motor was a tricked out carter 450CFM that had been jetted DOWN to make it balance better. However, those motors don't flow that large a CFM. and there is the problem with rnning a 4 BBl. setup on the L6 motor. However, NOTHING I did made the car run as well as when it was fuel injected. I won an SCCA regional F/P autocross championship the year AFTER I swapped the FI into the car, due to the consistant performance. The car also ran well as a daily driver after the swap to FI.... ...I'm also in this boat, and one thing you constantly have to get clarification on is Flywheel vs. wheel HP. That issue is enough to confuse almost anyone... I know that my current build SHOULD produce about 530-540 FLYWHEEL hp. However, any number of things could change that number drastically. Grumpy's info is excellent reading, which helps dispell some of the rumors!! Mike -
Sounds like they are unleashing the hounds on HMS! Mike

Sorry to hear about your motherinlaw Grump! Hope she is doing better! Thanks for the info on the cam! Mike

Grumpy, I sent you some info with the # for my cam, and the internals for the motor... Did you get that and do you have any comment on me going DOWN a size or two in their cam selection, geven that I am gonna drop the gearing down to a 3.54??? Mike
