Your options are wide and varied. Go to the Fuel Injection BB and do a search there... I'm personally using a cutler intake (Similar to a Victor Jr.) with 1000CFM TB, 42# injectors, and a Holley Commander ECU to drive everything. Mike Kelly

....Nope, this is for full lengths on the 1st generation Z, but you may want to contact Ross C about the ZX models to see what he is running... Mike

Myron, My heart goes out to ya. That surgery is not to be trivialized, but I have a kid in our extended family who had to have that surgery three years ago and he is fine now. The younger it is handled, the better the rate of success, and the more likelyhood a full recovery. I'm with you and Lone, don't know what is in the 2002 water, but there is a funk about the start of this year...can't wait to put this one behind me! Mike

OK, here is the deal... I know a few hondas that are built up pretty well, and even know of a ford Probe with a turbo and a shot of NOS. Those cars are quick, and I respect the work put into those cars to get them fast. Those guys I could sit and talk for hours with and I bet they would appreciate crawling under my car to see some of my own tricks. Problem is that those guys are less than 1% of the ricers out there. I spoke with a kid at the auto parts counter yesterday afternoon and the kid was talking about NOS and turbos and you could tell he was K- L- U- LESS... He watched the F&F video once to many times and bought into the hype... Any front driver running in the 12s and being driven daily is a car worth appreciating, and I mean that. Its the sea of posers that you have to swim through to get to the realy nice cars that represents the bulk of our negative attitude towards the rice crowd. Mike

The last several weeks have been a bit stressful for me because of two issues, one at home and one at work. Around the first week of January Donna started complaining with abdominal pains. She started going to the Dr. in February, and has had three major procedures conducted to find out the source of the pain. They first did a scope of her stomach, and subsequent biopsy of two areas that came back negative. Then there was a CATSCAN, which lead to an Upper GI, which has completely confused the Dr. and us, since the Upper GI came back clean, with no issues. On the plus side Cancer was ruled out. On the negative side, Donna is still suffering from some abdominal pain and discomfort. She goes back to the Dr. on the 24th of April to consult with the Dr. on where we go from here. At work, our company had our review period. I gave several employees their annual (What I would consider above average) reviews. Two of them complained and now there is a corporate HR investigation. Our company policy is to remove the manager from the position while the investigation is conducted. Unfortunately, I've been temporarily re-assigned 20 miles further from my home for the past two weeks, and the work is about an hours worth of meetings, and about 30 minutes worth of actual real work outside of those meetings… On top of that, due to the nature of my position, I wasn't allowed to know the true extent of the complaints, forcing me to get an attorney to protect my best interests… The last thing I want to do is get involved with litigation with my company, a company I had every intention of retiring from. My future employment with this company isn't the issue as much as my desire to work here after the investigation is concluded. Life throws us these curve balls with the hopes that we glean some real worth or value from the experiences. For me personally, this period of time has been the hardest two months of my life. The stress has been almost unbearable at times. I've lost 8 pounds (Which I desperately needed to loose) and I've been more testy than usual. The real test for my professional career will come at the conclusion of this investigation. They will either offer me my position back, where in I will have to put the bitter feelings about the incident (and those that filed the complaints) behind me and be fair and objective with my former staff, or they will re-assign me. If this affair isn't settled to my satisfaction, then the hard decision to litigate or not will have to be made. However, that issue pales in comparison to the concern over my wife and her health. a Job is a Job. My wife, well she is my life. The next several weeks will be tough. For those thinking about a career in employee supervision and management, my advice is to document every interaction with those you supervise, and make sure your practices coincide with those of the company you work for. If not, you open yourself up to much trouble ahead. I have over 500 megs of text data that my attorney is reviewing now, and that documentation will likely be what saves me. Make sure you are able to handle being called on the carpet before you sign on with the title of supervisor, manager, team-lead or Director. Maybe it is time I open that speed and custom tuning shop I had always dreamed about! Mike Kelly

GRUMPY ....HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mikelly replied to Mikelly's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
Well I just spoke to my mechanic that does inspections and small stuff for me, and the cost to pop both heads, have them checked at the machine shop, new valve seals, and re-assembled, with all fluids and back to me by Friday will be $1000-1100..... Damn. Let me ask the stupid question...What is the likelyhood of me re-torquing the heads and stopping the leak? It isn't showing in the water or oil at this point...I mention this since the mechanic brought it up as a possibility.... Mike -
Couple of things come to mind when I read this thread... I have a step son who is 17 and a younger brother who is 20, getting ready to turn 21. The step son has a 94 Civic 2 door coupe, cute little car... Little brother has an 87 RX7 turbo. Both think that their cars are fast and furious. Both also think they are the best driver on the planet... Both have rolled a car within the last 2 months... Both also tell me tails of how so-an-so just turned a 12 second quarter mile run, or a low 9/ high 8 pass in the 1/8th. When I ask who, driving what car, and did you see the timeslip? They always get slack jawed and say "What do ya mean?".... Kids talk. Kids also believe the hype printed in magazines... Remember that in the 16-22 age bracket, there are kids who still read comics, watch cartoons, and occasionally play with toys. These kids are just that...Still kids, talking trash and trying to fit in with the "Big boys"! Let it go in one ear, out the other, and show them with your tail lights. Last night I took my wife out to dinner on my 10 second 1/4mile GSXR motorcycle. A kid in a Nissan Sentra Type R (??) pulled up next to me.. I blipped the throttle at the light and his passenger gave me the sign... I cracked the throttle and revved it hard and COASTED through the light, as I had no intention of racing with my wife on the back of the wheelie proned GSXR, and the kid dumps the clutch with much tire spin and jetts off into the sunset... My wife asked me why I did that when we got home, and I said to give that kid something to bragg about... And so the next time I can set him up when I'm alone... and his ego is stroked from his last "Kill"! Kids are fun, kids are young and naive, and we all were kids... Have fun with them, and school them every chance you get... Build that Z and spank some import AZZ! Mike Kelly

GRUMPY ....HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mikelly replied to Mikelly's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
Well thats a good question... Those heads were cleaned up and had a three angle job on them a year ago this past January... Would I not gain enough extra Umph by going to the Torqer SR? I would have to pay someone to port them, as I can ruin wonderfull heads in about 15 minutes and I'll likely pay someone to do the head gasket UNLESS I'm upgrading to a better head... Time is short around my household right now, or believe me, I'd be tearing the intake and guilty head off tomorrow after work... Mike -
GRUMPY ....HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mikelly replied to Mikelly's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
I'm not sure what the number on the head is, as it is dark and I've thrown in the towel for the night. I'll pull it tomorrow afternoon when I get home. The motor is all stock except for the cam. It is a throttlebody injected 2 bolt block motor with a 700R4 trans. I was trying to remember IF I re-torqued the heads after the rebuild a year ago January, but for the life of me I can't remember doing it. Fortunately I see no oil in the water, and no water in the oil. Looks as it is leaking to the outside of the gasket external to the block passages. Nothing on this motor was changed internally after the rebuild, just the cam...It has centerbolt valve covers. I went to Scoggin Dickey's website and those SR Torquers and the fast burn aluminums are NICE and CHEAP!... I hope one or the other fits my application! Just did put a new 3inch Dynomax and tailpipe on it too, darn it... Mike -
My luck isn't going good lately, although the news about Donna's health was encouraging today...More on that and the rest of my soap opera later... Grumpy I need to know what aluminum or steal head will fit on a 350 TBI Truck motor from 1993... Got the truck back from inspection today, and it has a leaking head gasket... I'm not gonna yank it and replace the gasket if there is a BETTER head out there to put on. Might as well upgrade, right??? I have a crane compucam #114122 with mathing springs... What can I put on this 93 block??? I need to do something asap.... Just found this out 15 minutes ago... Mike

I'm buying the Computer and Harness this coming week...
Mikelly replied to Mikelly's topic in Fuel Delivery
Pete, All of my stuff was won on an auction for $975 plus a $230 upgrade on the injectors. I sold the computer and harness that came with the setup to a guy online for $325, plus I sold the carb, intake (To you), fuel delivery (Pump and Regulator), headers, and distributor and the net out of pocket cost was something like $200. Keep in mind that you could sell all of your induction parts to make up for the out of pocket "Hit" you would take to get this stuff in. I figure that with the cost of the new distributor, and new headers, I'll have about $1500 out of pocket for EVERYTHING. Guys I have no other cost data. You have to call and talk to a tech rep at either Summit or Jegs to get all the cost data. I can tell you that the intake holley makes for this setup goes for $280 and is identical to a Victor JR. single plane intake. Mike -
I'm buying the Computer and Harness this coming week...
Mikelly replied to Mikelly's topic in Fuel Delivery
Guys the kit came in today and the invoice was higher than quoted...$933. Holley had a price increase... However, here is what came in the kit.... EVERYTHING. Literaly everything you would need to run the computer, including the injector harness, all sensors, and I do mean all sensors, the install manual, which is so simple a chimp could do the install, and the complete main harness with various options for different configurations... Very impressive... and it came with the laplink for your laptop tuning needs! This was the last of the large purchases, excepting the bill for the machineshop on the motor. I'm on my way to the final steps!!!!!!!! Mike -
I'm with Pete... For undercar, or suspension parts, and if you use the metal prep, the stuff is great... But I wouldn't use it in the engine bay again without using a regular top coat of some other kind over it. POR15 is hard to apply... I'll be re-doing my engine bay at some point, leaving the POR15 that is there in place and employing another POR15 product to prep the POR15 painted surface for a regular finishing paint. I got so that I won't trust POR15 by its self. On the floor pans I added a rubberized roll on bedliner to both sided of the metal after using the POR15. Good Luck! Mike

I'm buying the Computer and Harness this coming week...

Actually I hav a contact at Summit who trolls this BB sometimes! He sent me the Summit catalog and marked the items I needed for my setup which is: Aftermarket Cutler (Victor JR. Style) intake with 1000CFM TB, 42# matched injectors, rails, regulator, and custom Bosch pump. The part number on the items you need is: For the TPI - 950-101 For the LT1 - 950-105 Just refer your sales man to the Holley Catalog! The universal V8 Kit, incuding all sensors, wiring harness, software, and ecu was over $800, and close to $900. The reason I chose to go with it was the ease of use, the excellent interface, and the fact that SuperDan RAVED over it! I also went to a couple of BBs and chatted with others who have used it and they were impressed with the performance, data loggin, fuel mapping, and how easy the software was to manage. Mike -
Guys I'm in the middle of horse trading over an R230 Differential. I need to know a few things first... Will an R200 Drive Shaft Flange fit on the R230? Axles... What do I use? Or will I have to scrap my custom Drive Shaft?? What other tips do the experts have on this install??? Mike

On the istall, Refer to my tech article under the links section, but dont do the skip shift mod and don't grind the fins off the transmission. Mike

Big Caster - New Front Suspension Xmember
Mikelly replied to 260DET's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
MY Front suspension kit will place your caster settings further forward than you can use, due to tires rubbing fender/ spoiler front section. The guys I sponsor in California are running over 7 degrees of front caster and had to trim about and inch out of the spoiler/ fender to get the most out of it. However, You must use the control arm with the TC Rod, as rubber or urethane mounts don't allow enough forward movement without binding. The more caster you can get, the less CAMBER you will need in most street/ autocross situations. Mike Kelly -
....Well the key to bad press with a shop or a vendor should be repeatable bad service with a number of differing customers. If you have one or two people from the same car club bashing a guy, then it isn't very level for playing hammer the big bad tuner... But HMS has a large number of folks from across the country that are VERY unhappy with his business practices. Mike

I have the Eagle brand version of this same wheel in a polished finish... They are 17X9.5 inches, and weigh about 23# each. The four wheels cost me $450 shipped, and they are the same lug pattern, and interestingly enough...I'm running the SAME MSA flares on the rear... Your car is basically a Blue version of mine Less the Whale tail! Mike Kelly

Man this is Crazy.... Guy I work with has family in Texas, about 8 miles up the road from The HMS facility and apparently the word is spreading around John's associates that he knows the AXE is gonna fall on his business soon. Crazy Crazy Crazy... I wish I had the chance to build cars for people... wouldn't unfold like this I tell ya. Mind you, Hennessey still hasn't said one word in his defense, which is strange for such a normally VERY outspoken man... Mike

OK, OK... I've been a little pre-occupied with life the last week or so.. I'm in and in in a big way... Let me know what I need to do and who needs cash or committment... I need these headers, and my only other options are making my own or going with a 1 3/4 block hugger by Flow Tech.....The last option would be the easiest since I had their 1 5/8th units prior to this buildup... Let me know what you guys or S&S needs. My motor should be back together and in the car in four weeks, so I could be the test mule, if that timing works! Mike Kelly
