I need you folks to try to get access to the sub-forum to confirm it works... We admins have access, but we have access to everything... Kinda hard for us to test it as thoroughly as I'd like to... Give it a try and let me know... Mike -
Nope. This is rare enough that I really approve of this one... Good luck moving her harvet-able parts to a suitable home. Good luck man! Mike

Here's the deal... We've set up a HYBRIDZ only sub-category. We want to protect th data to insure out members have access to the data FIRST before it gets to far... To initiate a request to join: Click on your User Control Panel (User CP) in the upper left menu bar. Scroll down the left hand menu under Miscellaneous select Group Memberships You will see the “AeroTech” group listed, select the radio button on the right that says “Join Group” and then click the “Join Group” button. Type in the Reason for your request if you feel like it then click the “Send Request” button. You will have to wait until one of the admins approves your request before you can access the new Forum. You must have been a member here before May first 2007 to have access to the sub-category! Mike -
You guys may want to hold off before installing them... There's some pertinent data in the windtunnel testing we did that may make you want to place them further away from the windshield... Stay tuned. Mike

I'm putting it on record now... I'll be at the next Southeast Z, UNLESS I'm at a pre-paid track event (I have 4 scheduled right now) or am out of town on a pre-planned trip (Going to SanDiego in Late September/beginning of October). I'll bring the Zcar if it's done, or the Porsche, if it isn't, But I'll be there. Mike

So Davy, you gonna pack up the family and come to the right coast? Wish I coulda come down from Va. to do the meet and greet! Mike

OK Gang, So we've started a private forum for the Windtunnel test data. We aren't sure who may decide to come over from other sites to enjoy the fruits of our hard labor, and we're not sure how this whole "magazine/artilce/web-zine" kinda thing may or may not play out, but we don't want to miss out on an opportunity, if one exists. So here's the deal: You must have joined HybridZ by May 1st, 2007 to get approval to access this site. I believe this will weed out the interlopers and allow us to protect the info and allow only our members to have access. You guys and gals donated the money to make this happen, so it's your data. The pictures and video from the events of the day, along with the test data will be published in this forum only. What you folks post outside of this sub-forum will eventually filter out into the rest of the Zcar community. So the responsibility of controlling this data is in your hands. Mike

To build or to buy one already converted.
Mikelly replied to a topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
If he's handy around cars, knows both the platform and the drivetrain swapped in, I'd not hesitate in buying someone elses conversion. If not, he'll be frustrated learning everything the previous owner did to the car, unless it's well documented. Go forth with that in mind! Welcome to the board. Mike -

Aerodynamic Testing - My initial thoughts...
Mikelly replied to Mikelly's topic in Windtunnel Test Results and Analysis
Let me clarify... We will NOT be selling this data to anyone else. The HybridZ members donated a total of $3500 in funds to make this happen. The results of the test data belong to this board and it's membership. We're really trying to put this data together in the most logical, best viewable, and most userfriendly way. I've had a NUMBER of offline emails from some of the folks who attended... Let me be CRYSTAL CLEAR... THIS IS NOT gonna turn into another fiasco like the PINKS project. I've given specific guidance on when and where we'll release the data. If ANY of the data is released without coordination with John Tedder and Myself, I'll ban that member outright. I do NOT want to do this, as we've had every member of our team work hard to make this come true. But I've made clear that we have but one chance to get this right the first time... The FIRST time. Let's all be patient and lets let the team collect their data, formulate the plan, and make the RIGHT presentation to HybridZ as a coordinated group. Thanks all for your understanding and cooperation... Mike -

I've already posted a number of pics elsewhere, and will add to that over the weekend... I'll be putting the pics and the video on disc to distribute to other members who were in attendance. We'll eventually post all of the data on the site. Dan and I need to discuss that. We may do a "Sub-forum" to protect the data for some time...Similar to the Pinks sub-forum. Mike -

David, Ultimately we'll post all the data HERE on our site. I need Dave Bexfield to call me and discuss the magazine article. I've been giving them a little time, becuase I know they did the MSA event last weekend, and I'm sure they're busy. As to selling the data, Once we post it here on our site, it's gonna be free game for anyone to use the data... Selling it isn't an option at that point, because it enters the "free" domain. Mike -
I didn't take it that way at all. What I find is, much like oil brands or other preferences, people have their own preference to waxing/detailing. I'm new to the game of detailing, but have so far had much better results with Zaino than the Meguires and Mothers brand waxes. Mike

Lewis, Do you need to replace the whole pan? I'd suggest doing what Sparks recommends... Cut and splice... Every pan I've seen that was used to replace existing pans ended up being trimmed to fit anyway, removing a fair amount of the new pan... I'd go buy some 20 gage sheet in about a 2x2 ft. section and see if you can take some tin snips and trim what needs replacing... Mike

Whatever works for you Moridin... For those interested in Zaino, do NOT use microfiber cloths to apply their polish. Micro fiber does a great job of removing the product. You must use a 100% cotton, shed-free towel to apply their Z5/6/8 after using the standard buffing pads to apply their first two stages of prep/polish. Zaino takes a fair amount of time the first time you apply it. After that, it's all good... Mike

Well, having just gotten into the world of cleaning a black car, I've found some tips that really work... I did buy a $40 bucket from griots, which has a sediment trap and a shelf to lay the spong/rag/mit so it isn't sitting in dirty water. Zaino is the best stuff on the planet in my opinion, but you need to have someone show you the proper way to prep the car, and how NOT to wipe the car when washing, polishing, or drying... The Karate Kid "wax on/Wax off" theory is the best way to MAKE swirls... Wipe all horizontal surfaces front to rear in a straigh motion, and all vertical surfaces in an up/down motion... no swirls... Do it when washing, drying, washing, polishing... Whatever... the depth of my 6 year old paint is AMAZING and it only gets better with each polish! Mike

This is exactly what I'm talking about with regards to people being confused about the info... The whaletail was AMAZING at creating downforce... TOO MUCH for the BRE Style spoiler. That's NOT a bad thing, but further confirmation that it's a TOTAL PACKAGE that works... We needed more frontal coverage, like with the TYPE3 airdam and some blocking of the grill area, along with the vortex generators and the windshield trip strips, and a few other tricks... No, The WHALE TAIL spoiler is a keeper for those who want to combine it with the right pieces... The tail extends far enough off the back deck to help with near wake turbulance behind the car... If time had permitted, I'd have liked to see the car with the Type3/fenderflares/Slicks/vortex generators/windshield trip strip and the whaletail. My guess is the numbers would have been at least as good as the dual wing. Mike Mike -

Again, Some things have possibly misinterprited and mis-understood. I had a particular conversation with the Windtunnel operator that specifically talked about the Supra Rear hatch spoiler... I've commented on that offline to MikeKZ. I'd like for us to again hold off on speculation of these tests. Mike -
Come on guys, get in on this one... Should be a good contest, with some of your admin types helping judge the competition! Mike
