I dare someone to flame this thread... Go ahead if you want to get banned... Got it? Mike

They're telling you wrong on that one. What I've found is that it's best to just go print the info off of the DMV website. The goons at the counter dont know the recent changes (Recent as of 8 years ago!!!) and will tell you exactly what was told to you, which is wrong. The law is that you can drive it at ANY TIME for PLEASURE. You can't drive it to and from work all the time, as a primary vehicle. You can go up to 250miles from your home, which in most cases takes you to the state line, which then allows you to go beyond those borders. Do a search on the code and you'll find this is exactly the case... Then print it and keep it with you. Mike

CLSAT, I can't see the pic. It's X'ed out... Being in Virginia, You could avoid the whole need for a safety inspection by getting it registered as an antique. You still get to use it as often as you like, and the only catch is that you have to have one other car registered in Va. as your primary vehicle. Mike

Ls1 Mods To Get Into The 10's (phantom)
Mikelly replied to LS1 Z's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
I used the Exedy Stage3 with great success. Pedal effort was a little more than I'd expected, but it wasn't unlivable. I've heard good things about the Mccleod as well... My LS1 was pushing 386Whp and a heavy 3300# C5 corvette around and on a road course or at the drags the clutch never gave up the ghost. Mike -
I"m going thru this right now with a good friend of mine. Dennis owns his own company, busts his arse, gives the wife and grown daughters pretty much everything they want, and drives beaters... He wanted me to help him find a clean C5 Vette... And then sticker shock set in for a clean example... Now he's looking on these "repo" sites. Dennis has five boats, none of which run, three jet skis and two wetbikes, none of which run, 7 go karts, none of which run, three motorcycle/3 wheelers, one that doesn't run, and a host of other broken "stuff"!... And he's gotten it all on "Deals" that just needed a little piddling! One project to take your time is very managable. Two can spread your time... 12 will sink you. Yasin, You made the right choice. It has potential, but P-cars can be pricey in parts, as you well know. Keep looking for that right candidate. Mike

It would probably be the part where he mentioned it was on his "clutch" line... Mike

Holy Chit... And I was impressed that the previous owner of my 996TT had footage of my car doing 205mph. We're gonna need a bigger boat! Impressive, indeed! Mike
-
I'm trying to visualize what you're doing here... Which Clutch master are you using? Mike
-
You also might want to check your DIPSTICK... Smell for gas, and too much oil... It would suck if you had other issues with that carb and all that gas was going into the heads, down past the pistons, washing the rings along the way, trickling over the bearing (They really don't like gas!) and into the oil... Just a thought... Mike

I absolutely LOVE that stripe with the "datsun" breaking it, and those side markers... Very tastefully done! I'd just enjoy it for a while before you take it to the next level! Mike

This is an absolute COOLEST STORY nomination! Mike

Post count means nothing and when you go back and look at the content, it gets even worse. We had the individual in question start several flame wars that were deleted and he was advised about his conduct by at least FOUR of our admins on a fairly regular basis. I sent him 9 polite notes about his conduct before he was temporarely banned... However, his offline behavior was what got him permanently banned. Sending out a bunch of "hate" emails to the entire admin staff with content that was down right strange and unsettling will get you nowhere. He was initially banned for 30 days... That quickly became lifetime and not a SINGLE admin questioned it... To his own admission, Mike has a number of personal issues he's trying to get a handle on. I hope he succeeds as I don't wish him anything bad. Hopefully meds and professional council will help him. I know that some times you guys think we're doing things because we don't "like" someone. It's kinda hard to "hate" people you don't truly know... I personally have zero anymosity towards anyone here. We may disagree, but that's because we have different opinions. When we ban someone, we ban them because the rules have been repeatedly broken. Banning someone isn't something we take lightly, and it's a part of the job that is extremely difficult at times. However, to date it has not been personal, and should never be. We also discuss and get a "vote" on tough situations when it gets confusing on a given subject. We don't just "do it" because so and so is a jerk... Doesn't work like that gang. Mikelly

I guess I could enlighten you fellows on why Mike was banned, but I'm sure I'd get another slew of emails from him on why he's going to take me to court for slandering his name, or tell me what a bad guy I am and how everyone on HybridZ hates me for the abuse of my "power" or my "brand" of "justice"... It's the internet. We have rules. Read them. Agree to abide by them, Or don't play. Oh, And if you take medicine, TAKE it without alcohol, and follow your doctors orders, if you do take medicine. It's that simple. Not that this is a reflection on the member in question or any of his personal issues... Mikelly

Rasing Strut towers?
Mikelly replied to JustinOlson's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
I'm actually looking at hoosiers, NIttos, and Kumhos for dry and some Bridgestones or NITTOs for wet. All are in the 24.5 inch range and should allow me to gain back the added droop needed. Since I haven't bought the track wheels yet, I may end up going with 17s on those for a couple of reasons... Mike -
Rasing Strut towers?
Mikelly replied to JustinOlson's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
I haven't bothered to measure using John Coffey's guidance yet. I will when I get ready to order tires. I absolutely want to be able to get as much power to the ground as possible, which is why I've removed the headers and cut the ring off the bellhousing. Goal is maximum power to the pavement and best use of the suspension... Oh, and the pics of the car in that particular angle are deceptive. It is pretty darned low. Mike -
Rasing Strut towers?
Mikelly replied to JustinOlson's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Yup, that's correct. And at that stance I have about 1/2inch to 3/4inch of droop. When I welded in the AZC camber plates, I had set them ontop of the existing strut tower and then welded them in, and later cleaned up the area with some minor body filler/sanding/paint. This may not be an issue for some, but if you're running a chevy motor with lakewood/Mcleod bell housing and S&S long tube headers, the car sits too low. You are left with maybe 2.5 inches of clearance. Now that I've removed the lower 1inch lip of the bellhousing and removed the S&S headers, I've got 3.5 inches of clearance. Mike -
Rasing Strut towers?
Mikelly replied to JustinOlson's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Danger will robinson... Anyone who'se seen my car has commented on how LOW it is. It is TOO low in the rear and I have no more upward adjustment in the strut piston, without eating into the 1inch droop that is required. I wish I'd welded in mine LOWER than the "above" the strut tower position I chose. This would have given me more ability to adjust more ride height into the suspension. As it is now, I can't go any higher. I'm maxed out. Mike -
Aerodynamics DONATIONS NEEDED!!!
Mikelly replied to Mikelly's topic in Windtunnel Test Results and Analysis
I appreciate the thanks, but honestly, That's not what this was about. The point was that if someone was upset over not getting a personal thank you for their donation, or for not getting a personal update on the testing, then maybe they didn't fully understand the point behind opening this up to the masses. The fact that a few people made some inappropriate comments shouldn't surprise me, given the fact that we're dealing with all walks of life. But for some of the comments to be made, it was just a bit much... Oh well... Let's move on. BJ, John and others are moving forward with their plans. I'm super-stoked. Mike -
Aerodynamics DONATIONS NEEDED!!!
Mikelly replied to Mikelly's topic in Windtunnel Test Results and Analysis
We actually have enough to cover the cost of the rental and most of the paypal "fees" that were eaten up. I want to stress that we do appreciate all the donations made by our wonderful members. It just gets under my skin a little bit when I read threads like the one over on Zcar.com. Mike -
Aerodynamics DONATIONS NEEDED!!!
Mikelly replied to Mikelly's topic in Windtunnel Test Results and Analysis
I only know what's been posted in that thread and how I took it was that the individual sent his money and heard NOTHING else. I got so many donations from people, it was hard to respond to each individual person to thank them, which is why I commented repeatedly here in this thread. So when I read comments like I saw on Zcar.com, yea, it does get me pissed off... Mike -
help finding struts/shocks 280z
Mikelly replied to gretchen/jason's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
I had a set in my car before buying the Koni 8610s. One of the rears leaked down and this is on a car that was rolled around the shop and not driven at all... Hell, most of the weight was not in the car, since it had been stripped down to a shell for all the life of the struts... Needless to say, I'm not a fan of these struts... Mine were not the Illuminas, so maybe that has something to do with it, don't know... But one of them is NOT holding any pressure at all. Mike -
Aerodynamics DONATIONS NEEDED!!!
Mikelly replied to Mikelly's topic in Windtunnel Test Results and Analysis
Gang I don't even know the date. BJ, John Tedder and the other members who are setting this up are holding the date close to chest because of the concern that if too many people show up, we won't get any testing done. Now, I just read some really IGNORANT posts by some REALLY IGNORANT people over on Zcar.com... To those who were soooo upset by the fact that they didn't get a personal thanks, Please contact me offline and I'll gladly reemburse them in full their "donation" towards this effort. To the other idiots who made comments about the donations going to something other than the cost of renting the windtunnel, I say that you're truly as dumb as I think you are. None of the folks involved with the windtunnel testing really needed the donations. Again, we could have done this without the aid of funds, and just as well could have kept the data to ourselves, instead of offering to share the experience with the Zcar Community as a whole... Some people truly do not see the forest thru the trees. Some folks seem to forget that we made clear that the date had to be pushed to the end of March, due to the fact that this place is booked solid for months in advance. Thanks to those of you who gave and understand why the date hasn't been posted yet. We will have PLENTY of proof of this effort. Mike Kelly -
Looks good Phil... Drop it an inch and it'll look Peeeeerrrrrrrrrpheeeeecccctttt! Don't forget to trim the bumpstops about an inch when you lower it! Mike

Well I have a good relationship with the guys who moderate that site. If I see something that is just horribly wrong, I can ask Derrek to delete it or lock it and he will, so long as I provide a reasonable explanation for why it should be canned. They've also banned members over some hybridz related topics/ posts. I still don't understand why they allow Norm to continue on with his little diatribes, but I suspect they put up with it for the same reasons we did for so long. Oh well... There's a need for both sites. They cator to those who are truly pure nissan. We don't. I think they werve their purpose pretty well, as do we. Mike
