Hey ZROSSA, These vents will be in frt of the radiator, not behind! I`m not able to direct air from behind ratiator other than with the vents I have in the hood. And yes the grill opening will be reduced also! Thats part of the big picture!
-
Should there be any lips/deflecters at the leading edge of the openings of vent wholes/slots to make air flow over(to keep air from being sucked in)?

Rear Shoe Adjustment for a 72 240Z
Synlubes replied to Miles's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Well, you can take it off - 1 take it apart and clean it! 2 remove it, run new line and then mount a PV inside pass compartment where you can get to it to ajust it! I`m sure you should be able to find someone in your area to help(if you need it). It`s not hard, but you will need some tools, a tubing bender and a tubing flare kit! -

There should be 2 bleed valves on side of each cly(on MC). Bleed one at the time! Bleed a fair amount of fluid thru each one! -

Always bleed MC first, then go to rear(where brake line is the longest) bleed that side, then other side, go back to frt, bleed right frt then left frt! -

Miles, where is your PV? Is it in the engine compartment or in the rear? -

Try cking the frt calipers, using some slip-joint plires, see if you can depress both pistons in each caliper!(careful not to pop a piston out) -

There is a leading and trailing shoe(for each side)so they can only go on correctly! How old are the wheel cly.? How old / bad is the brake fluid? Again ajust the rears(w/ the rear off the ground) Did you cut the drums? Are they in good shape? Is 1 of them cracked? Have they been cut to much already / one cut more than the other? If you haven`t, you might want to do a 4 wheel brake fluid flush! Make sure you bleed out the master cly also! -
I looked at that as an option (all the heater and under dash have been removed on my car), but did not want to cut up that area of car! The hood is a replaceable item so I don`t fell so bad about doing some mods to it!
-
OK, I went back in time and found some of the threads you may have been talking about! " Last week I mentioned that an old Z racer I know had seen aero data for the 240Z that showed a low pressure area above the hood in the first several feet from the leading edge. I'm looking for any detailed info on that phenomenon for the 240Z that anyone might have - especially what the pressure profile along the hood is, and how it might vary across the width of the hood." Can anybody varify this, I don`t want to add more air into this area?
-
Your right!!! Get creative I`m going to use the cowl panel(between hood and windshied)(the large center section) in bewteen the 2 stock vents in my hood for aditional venting! I used the 2 smaller sections of that same panel for my inspection lid vents! I ran the slits long way, they look quite nice even though the hood vents slits are different!
-
Thanks ZROSSA, The car is a track car not a street car, this is the kind of testing I need to do BUT can`t aford more tickets!!! I went thru all threads in this section just last nite, I shuold of bookmark it! (always think of these things after the fact)! HOW can I find threads from last year? Yea, Terry`s car is sweet! Mine is not quite that modified!
-
I have been reading the threads in this section about aero stuff etc. and have had this idea for some time and would like input! 1st, it`s an early model Z! 2nd, my idea was kinda set off after seeing these panels in the MSA catalog (pg.17 left bottom, Bomex frt. panels)(the one that expells air from in frt of radiator area) 3nd, I want to add some venting to the hood area just in frt of the radiator support member to exhaust air out the top side of hood instead of having all that air go out under car, it seems this would work, or would it? I don`t know how the air flows over the hood at this area, wheather it would let air exit or try to suck air in at these vents? Vents would NOT be NACA type, just some slits(or something) cut in across the hood area. I have the 280 hood w/the vents and have made my own inspection lid vents, again tring to get as much air out of engine compartment and over top of car as possible, and will be adding some more venting to the hood (across the back of hood, in between the stock vents) shortly! The car is used for HPDS and track events so all these ideas are ment to work at speed, cooling engine compartment and tring to get some of the air exiting over car instead of going under car! I have an extension to the air dam to block air that`s used for track events to lessin the air going under car (at frt.) I`m not an engineer, just have some ideas!
-
hey 280Zone, You could easily install the "stock vents" in your hood! I`m ready to start this project, just need to know how the air acts at this area on the hood!

Suspension setup to even out tire wear (JohnC?)
Synlubes replied to Bob_H's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Hey BobH and others interested, I`ve done a lot of events with CarGuys! They have a seat time (on fri) and a HPDS following (sat / sun) coming up in Nov. at The Point! Check their site for info! -
I have an early 260 and would like to use (or am thinking about) my 4 spot Toyota calipers in the rear! I need to know if there are rotors (solid) that would work in rear, with out mega modifications? Making brakets for rear calipers is not a problem, finding a rotor to slip over stub axle and have enough off set??? The 4 spot calipers w/stock, cross drilled rotors have been in use in the frt for some time! I would like to install larger, vented rotors and bigger frt calipers up front and use what I already have (calipers) in rear! OR I read here about using Maxima vented frt rotors (don`t remember year) w/ the frt vented toyota 4 spot calipers in the rear??? Any info would be great!
-
Can someone verify these Maxima brackets?

Hey Mat73GNZ Do you have pics you could send? -
Hey Ya`ll Just wanted to add my 2cents worth! I run a stock L28 block, unworked N42, with 3000 to 6500 cam and 45mm triples(webers). The formulas talked about, are for all out racing(and I do agree)! I set my carbs to those same formulas(using 36mm chokes and jetting to match)and founded that the car DID run very well above 4000 rpms, but was not getting out of corners well. I droped down to 32mm chokes, reset jetting and found the car much better around the entire race track! I did loose a little power at high rpm, but what I gained was having better power coming out of turns! There is usually more going in and out of turns than long strights on most road tracks! My next setup well be L28 turbo block, 40 over flat tops, P90 head(w/ alittle bigger cam), same carbs w/ a little ajusting. The P`s(p90) are the best, due to Nissan`s development, they have beter flow than the other heads! Just some other opinions!!!

Hey Guys, I`ve been using ajustable bushings frt and rear(from MSA). Very little street lots of driving schools and track events. I`ve been using for almost 3 years! I had 1 rear ncert crack???, (MSA sales the ncerts to replace so you don`t have to buy another kit). The frts have slipped on me 2 times! I used a BIG LONG breaker bar to do the last tightening, no problems sence!

4 wheel disc brake change over
Synlubes replied to Synlubes's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Thanks ZCarNut, The link and info surely answered some ?s! The pics of the 5 lug stub axel showed a couple of the lug holes drilled very close to the edge, The car will be used for on track events! Is this a tryed and true set up? Any racers out there use is set up? Thanks, Doug -
I`ve read here that 300ZX(Z31)frt hubs/rotors can be use on frt of early Z,or use early Z hubs and the 300ZX(Z31)frt rotors with 1/2 spacer? what is used for the rear to get the same bolt pattren? Can the rear stub axles from a 300ZX(Z31)be used in rear of an early Z? Are the rear rotors on a 300ZX(Z31)solid or vented? Working with 5 lug change over.
