Well, Ford's done it again. Yup, they've come out with a fastback sports car that looks way more like a Z than the 350 could ever dream of. It started with the new AM-V8: And now, the Shelby GR-1: More info here: http://www.cardesignnews.com/news/2004/040813ford-gr1/ Yeah, Nissan's really done a great job dropping the proverbial ball of a classic design. The others, however, have got some fantastic fast-back funk. (Sorry, I just had to. ) Anyhoo, there were some sketches someone did for concepts of new Zs that just looked great. The 350? Not my cup of tea. There are certainly some tuners out there doing excellent stuff with it. I must admit I got a bit drooly over that sr20det with the chameleon paint, but then again, I'm a sucker for a fast-back.

WHOA! That's looking awesome, dude! Really good work. I'm very impressed. Keep us informed once you start smoothing it out.

Yeah, that and some custom wheels... I think from now on, the message board should include the "random vaseline reference from aux" option whenever submitting a price quote.

What a bunch of 'morans'.

That is just amazing. I watched it three times just now. I should so be studying for my computer graphics exam instead. (linear algebra: puke). Thanks for the link. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how one should go about learning to drive like that? Seriously. I'm a sophomore in college right now and would very much like to be able to pursue some sort of driving-related career. Stunt driving and pro racing are the first things that come to mind. I don't think "getaway driver" is exactly a realistic member of that set of professions, but I guess one could throw it in with the others (and it would certainly be fun, albeit illegal). So, do any of you have any recommendations of places where one could take precision driving courses and be taught (and practice) skills like those demonstrated in the linked clip? I don't want to hijack this thread, so if anyone wants to PM me or if I should re-post this elsewhere, please say so. Thanks in advance, all.

Um, techically, I think they are four off, or two off if they're directional... Anyhoo, not only should they throw in the vaseline, but at that price, I would think they should include a spare Z.

So, here's me working on my Z. I took this pic just for you guys. It's a few days before my friend's "White Trash Party," hence the chops. I ended up just wearing that outfit (which was good and dirty) to the party and doing my best Vermont accent. I got the award for most authentic costume. Not that I had to put any effort into it. So, think having 7 jack stands under my car makes me eligible to be a "Jackstand Racer"? There I am again. You can almost see my lack of interior in the background. more pics: http://mccay.hitchcock.org/max/Photos/ZWork/ZWork.html'>http://mccay.hitchcock.org/max/Photos/ZWork/ZWork.html more general (and Z) pics: http://mccay.hitchcock.org/max/Photos/ Enjoy dudes.

Middle easterners that should not be allowed to drive.....

Looks like amatuer drift gone bad. Some of them had some pretty impressive skids. Just crazy. -
Sounds almost as good as sex. Not. WTF? C'mon kids, condoms are free. Pajamas are not. What's the problem? Then again, I can see the appeal to getting all touchy-feely in a room full of 14 year olds with boners. Oh wait, no, I can't. *shudder*. Still shuddering.

wonderfully appropriate choice of attire, there. Also, I think that paint job looks awesome. I like the stripes. The reason I've shied away from black (that's what it is, right?) is that I won't be able to keep it clean enough. I can imagine that if you were able to have your car just primered for so long, black paint should be a cinch. Also, I'd be interested to see that faux-pas-in-exhaust. Wondering which, of the few that came to mind, it looks like.

Well I've been on this forum for awhile, and so far I've seen the most votes for Mike Kelly or John Coffey, and Tim240z kinda has a Nader-esque spoiler role. I think I lean a little more towards Coffey (6 cylinder AND faster). I think I'd have to vote 240Z Turbo for president. This country needs an intelligent, resourceful, turbos akimbo president who isn't afraid to cut a freakin' hole in his hood. Other than that, I'll vote for whoever makes it easier/cheaper for me to get a Skyline.

Well, you could always come live in Vermont. We had a solicitor recently, though. He was logging our neighbor's land and wanted to know if we wanted him to log ours. Then there was the guy from the telephone company who stopped by to let us know that my mom's horse chased his truck down the road. That was awesome. I didn't realize horses were into chasing. I thought that was a dog thing. Ahh, the sticks. You need a guy like our goat man to keep people out of your vicinity. Just google for "Corinth, VT Goat man". You'll see why the "flatlanders" keep moving back out of this fine state.

Topics of "t3h r33t suBw00Fer Setu!P" seem to generally be avoided on this fine forum, as we seem to be mostly focused (and rightfully so) on the mechanical performance of our Zs. I do, however, have a dilemma of pure hybrid nature. It's just a hybrid audio system, not a huge, Ferrari trouncing beast of a quad turbo v12 falconer in a 2000lb Carbon fiber 240 or something. Anyway... In a very wise move, last summer, I put my meager tax return toward the purchase of an iPod (http://www.apple.com/ipod), which I would now like to play in my Z. Heck, I bought it so I could play it in my Z. I hadn't even bought the Z yet. What I would like to do is make a little dock for it which will fit in the ash tray and hold my iPod at a decent angle. That angle will be decent because it will allow me to use it and it to fit with the charger plug which I will run under the center console. (Monster Cable makes a really cool low profile charger which I will incorporate into the custom dock.) Anyhoo, the iPod uses a proprietary connection type called the "Dock Connector." This connector combines powered Firewire, an audio Line-Out (like the second audio jack on Sony Walkmen, the constant volume one for plugging into a stereo), and a whole bunch of undocumented stuff (Apple? Undocumented features? Nah...) So, I'd like to have some sort of system which made obsolete the stock radio. As in I've already taken the thing out. I want to be able to play the audio from my line out to my speakers with some volume control in-between. How do I do this? Radios have little mini amplifiers in them, right? Would I have to run the audio to an amplifier and then through some sort of potentiometer or something before going to the speakers? Are there amplifiers out there with volume control and the channels to run a standard-ish system? Ie: having two front and two rear channels, not one or two subwoofer channels? Keep in mind I'm not a bass fiend. So, thanks in advance for your answers. Here are the solutions that are out of the question: Running a tape adapter to my stock radio. Using an FM transmitter. Here are the ones I'd rather not consider: Dissembling the radio and making the iPod connect to the tape channel. Taking my Audiovox CD receiver out of my Sentra and putting it my Z. (many Audiovox models, like mine, have aux. inputs on the front.) Thanks, Max

Yup' date=' $4k for what seems to be a pretty good 260z. It is being sold by Phyte: http://hybridz.org/nuke/modules.php?op=modload&name=zClassifieds&file=detail&cat=54&de=461 Good luck. Sorry to hear about your Z.

Those things are so beautiful. My three favorite BMWs are those, the E30 M3s, and the M1. Such wonderful cars. I'd love to have an E30 M3 with one of the newer straight 6s in it. One can get some pretty good results out of those engines. Nice car, man. Have fun with it.

I have a friend whose volvo is giving him a bit of a hard time. I was thinking I'd get him to go away for a week and then I'd swap a 350 into it. He'd never even notice. I think that would probably make the best april fools' joke ever.

HAHA! That's what I have, a '91 SE-R. (no sun roof, no leather, though) http://mccay.hitchcock.org/max/Photos/Sentra/Sentra.html I think you'll find that you can get yourself in a lot of trouble with that thing. I got mine for $500 from a guy at work who didn't really know much about it. He had just bought a new Subie and was looking to get rid of it. Unfortunately, I only drove it for about a month before the crank pully fell apart. I should have paid more attention to the belts squeaking, I guess. It was horrid. The shop I nursed it to said it was gonna cost at least $1k to fix, since they thought the head had warped when it overheated since both belts snapped/fell off. I got a new pulley on eBay, screwed around wiht the car all winter, realized I'd never be able to free the crank pulley bolt myself, had it towed. ended up costing $100 for the tow and pulley replacement. (new pulleys are v.expensive, though.) Anyway, the SE-R is an awesome car. I think you'll be amazed at how much it just wants you to rev it right up. 7500 RPM in first and second comes a lot quicker than you'd expect. It also loves to go from 80 to 100 MPH. Don't even have to floor it. I get mine up to 105-110 pretty much daily. It's a great car. Enjoy!

Well, I've driven my Z once, so the road to perfection is going to be a long and winding one. So far the only thing keeping me from driving it is that the brakes didn't work when I bought it. Right now I am working on: 1) Brakes, suspension, etc. All parts have been ordered. -- 5 lug all around (duh) -- 4piston in front -- 240sx in back -- tokico struts -- Modern-motorsports coilovers. 2) Wheels. I NEED WHEELS. 3) Dash, interior -- Autometer Sport Comps, six of 'em. speedo, tach, water, oil, fuel, amps -- stereo. I need to figure out how to build a preamp for my iPod. -- seats? After that's finished, I'll be able to drive it (if it passes inspection.) Now to really answer the question: 4) Paint/Body work. shave everything. reconstruct rear light panel. (mine's dented). remove all rust. really. 5) 450HP L31 Twin Turbo. (and necessary upgrades. That's it. My guess is three years till completion.

Thanks for the reply. So, are you suggesting that I go to the rim dealer and see if I can get specs on wheels from them and compare to measurements I take of the Z, or that I drive the Z there? If it is the latter, perhaps I should have explained the condition of my Z. It isn't exactly a "Garage Queen." It's more of a "Barn Jester." Since I have no 5-Lug wheels, I am unable to make any comparisons to something I already have, that works. Also, the car is unregistered, uninsured, and undriveable. The suspension is actually completely stock at the moment. The parts I mentioned previously are what I have ordered and will be installing soon. I am trying to find some rims that will look nice, ride well on Vermont roads, and fit my car (I suppose if they didn't fit, they would neither look nice nor ride well. oh well, things sound better in threes. ) Perhaps I could just take the Z31 hub to the dealer. Good thinking. Sweet Z, by the way. I'm very jealous.

apparently the trunk lids on the standard WRXs are the same as on the STi. A guy I met saw some kid in a parking lot and said "you want a huge spoiler?" the kid was psyched and they just swapped their trunk lids. The STi loos freakin' awesome without the spoiler. I love that understated look. You know there was a spoiler. You know it could use the spoiler. but it doesn't have it! sweet.

As mentioned above, it can be done either way. There is an l28et(t) mentioned on this board with two SAAB turbos that uses one intercooler. Ferraris, however, often use two. There are a couple of things to consider in whether to go with one or two: how many intake manifolds/plenums (plena?) do you have? if you have V engine, perhaps two. If two, then a twin-intercooler-twin-turbo setup may be favorable. If you are using your L series engine, then one intercooler may be far easier in the plumbing department. You'll probably only have one intake plenum (like that red twin turbo l28.) In fact, I've only seen single intercooler setups on L engines. like this: http://www.eng.fsu.edu/~jthagard/ (one of the two coolest Z's I've ever seen.) it raises an interesting (to me at least) question: Which causes a greater loss of boost: a large intercooler to handle a lot of air or two small intercoolers whose output is then shoved into one pipe? i.e. is the boost-loss from merging two air streams greater before or after intercooling? Perhaps merging afterwards is more efficient because there is less volume because it is cold? Hmm, good thing it's gonna be another year at least until I even start trying to make that 450+ HP 3.1 Litre twin turbo monster.

After having searched for quite some time through the Brakes, Wheels etc. fora, I have yet to find the specific answer to my question. The question: Will Borbet Type B wheels fit on my Z? background info: car: 1973 Datsun 240z. custom: Tokico Performance HP struts Modern-Motorsports coilovers 5 Lug Z31 front rotors Toyota 4x4 calipers 5 Lug rear Brembo rotors 240sx rear calipers Modern-Motorsport prepped 5 Lug stub axles wheel specs: Brand: Borbet Model: Type B (Borbet calls them Design CBB) Diameter: 16" Width: 7.5" Bolt-pattern: 5-114 (I hope they mean 5-114.3) Freakin' TireRack Wheel offset: +35mm tire specs: Yokohama AVS ES100 205/55-16 When inquiring about the 5Lug setup from Ross @ Modern-Motorsports, he mentioned that I would be able to use wheels manufactured to fit some Toyotas. This makes sense, since they have the same bolt pattern. I can't find, however, what the centerbore is on those rims. Also, I don't know how the clearance will be with that wheel/tire combo. Is 7.5" too wide? I plan to have some spacers to make the offset 0 (or whatever necessary). It seems using the stock offset is best. Right? So, I found these wheels by searching for wheels for a '96 Toyota Camry LE at TireRack. Will this setup work? Should I buy them now? If not, what should I get? I like the style of these wheels (BBS is out of the budget). Unfortunately, I didn't want the size of MSR 103's (even though the black ones look so sweet). The Borbets are nice, clean. I photoshopped them onto a recolored version of Pete Paraska's Z and it looked pretty good. I can only hope my car looks as good as his.
