I removed no such device. Although I have also pulled off the mid section of the air dam that's in front of the rad.

I spy, with my little eye, a GTO front bumper! Can we see pics of the entire car? Is it a full GTO replica car? Maybe you've already mentioned it before and have pic somewhere else. So I guess I'll go and look up your post history Yea, looking at those pics I can't imagine there even being much room for a radiator let alone fan with scarab mounts in a ZX. Well, different beast all together, so no comparison I guess.

Umm, i know C++, VB, VB2, Pearl, PHP, XML, and of course HTML. I've even done my fair share of 3d programming. Work is hard to find here. Ever since the big cool down several years ago programmers are dime a dozen still in CA. I once even met an out-of-work programmer who was working at fry's. woohoo. It is good money though, i'm just not willing to relocate at the moment. Maybe in 5 years once i'm done with my buisness ventures.

Boy do I have to lucky, even compared to the CA guys. I'm on the coast so 90 is roasting for me. My room has no insulation and the window has been closed up all day and it's 82 in here. Weather.com says it's 77 here... ...so i open the window... nice coooool breeze. I'm sorry guys, but I guess someone has to live here to deal with all this missouri Move to CA, and get close enough to see water, and you'll be able to work on you car all the time, and then get pulled over every weekend the car's running...

ROFL That was the best thread hijack ever. True, she isn't a musician, but "performers" weather signers (good or bad) or musicians we don't get paid much. My real money is made in computers. I repair, maintain, make, ect. I make good money... when I can find work.

Ouch harsh words. But i've been working on cars since before I was a teenage, even rebuilt a few motors in my time. I dont' consider myself a mechanical idiot. Plus all the shops i've dealt with can't seem to do squat on a car unless they can hook it up to a scanner. Good reliable mechanics are extinct around here. EDIT: Oh yea.... Havn't you heard that the average national wage for a musician is less than minimum wage? (even when you take into account that people like brittney spears make millions)
-
Easier said than done methinks. Totally different crossmember to begin with, and then you have to consider that the steering linkage wouldn't work with this motor in a 240z anyways. It'd be just as much work to make your own steering rack all together. At least it seems that way to me.

NOTE TO EVERYONE (though I m writing this thanks to wheelman): I appologise for my lack of description. I've gone back to read all my posts and I havn't been describing my situations very well. I'll try to give a better run down on what it's been doing tomarrow when I've got more time to think about everything it's done. Maybe it's a leak, maybe not. I won't know for sure until I get a fan on it.

I thought they had 'optional' v6 motors. I might be wrong though. It's not like I really keep up with the xterra and pathfinder crowds...

I'm not saying your wrong, and no offence I didn't learn anything from your post. The hardest thing about all this is explaining all the different things that have happened. Ok, just the other day I drove about 50 miles and the coolant system was fine, full and keeping the car cool. I was to the freeway by the time the car was even fully warmed up. I never went less than 40mph and when I was about 5 miles from my destination the car started to heat up. By the time I got there it was quite overheated. I've been carrying extra coolant with me to keep things on the safe side. When I was headed back home I filled it up and the coolant system took in nearly a gallon. I hope, even pray that just a fan will fix it. But i'm not going to be suprised if it doesn't. Again, i'm not saying your wrong. I KNOW that the fan is at least part of the problem. And if it IS the only problem I'll thank you and hybridz for yet another problem solved. If not I'll still be here needing help on locating leaks. (there's still the possability it's the rad cap, but it looks fine. I might buy a new one just for good measure)
-
I understand that low coolant will cause lots of problems, and I'm hoping that getting a fan on it will fix it. But why put the mechanical back on when I'm proibly going to have the electric one i've already bought show up in the next 2-4 days? I don't drive every day, and if I keep the distance under 60 miles round trip the car won't overheat as long as the system is full. At this point I just don't see the point in putting the mechanical back on when it'll just have to come off in the very near future. Oh yea, mrinsane, you're insane... go figure
-
Yes I understand the process... BUT, overheatiing issues surfaced overnight, not slowly. I'm much more inclined to first think it's something I did when I was working on it. Update: Upper rad hose is bad, overly soft. I don't know if it's leaking while under engine load, but just sitting it swells up quite a bit. I'll be replacing that tomarrow, and hopefully I'll get my fan soon. I've already got my fan controller w/thermostat from summit (came in less than 24 hours) And I'm definatelly loosing more water than before. I'm going through about 1/2 to a full gallon a week depending on how much I'm driving. I just gotta find this damn leak.
-
Link Dead (server not found) I'll try again later. Sounds like a cool head swap though. EDIT: Works for me now. Ok, so why not just use a KA24DE motor? Unless those are hard to come by??? I don't really get it, that's all.

I've seen two different steering rack setups on ZX cars. One has a power steering rack that sits behind the cross member, and the other had the power steering system resting in the corner of the engine bay with steering rods tucked behind the cross member. If your S130 car is the latter type (like both of my US S130 cars) then it might fit. If someone could get me dimensions of the SR motor from back of block to front of oil pan I could measure my car.

If you go back and look at threds in this "other engine" section you'll see lots of posts about this motor in the last 6 months or so. It's been kind of a buzz word. Seems like nobody here noted the actual engine name. The motor is called a 1UZFE All engines have codes like that, just like a 240Z, 260z, and 280z are all "S30" cars becuse S30 is the chassis model. The 1UZFE is a great motor, but the one i've seen put in a S30 car has little documentation on the net, and the one in the 280ZX had a modified oil pan plus other modifications. It's a recent thread you shouldn't have trouble finding it. If there is anyone who's ever put any motor in a Z, odds are they've heard of or are a member of hybridz. I'll never doubt anyone's plans to put any motor in a Z, thanks to the wild projects i've seen here. I say go for it. I'd recomend the older engines since the newer ones (like your mom's) are the newer ECU standard OBD2 and that creates more hurdles to overcome in swaping. The newer ones are also VVTi wich is neat, but not needed. The newer ones also have a better head design but are a bit wider. For more info go here. http://lextreme.com/

wow.... 14k on body. I've seen an utterly demolished 100k roles royce that was fixed to as good as new as you get for around 15k... And that car was terrible. I don't say this so you feel bad about spending so much, I just want you to have justification for calling them up every week when you find another problem in thier work. For that kind of price it should have been 110% professional and only took a month. Sounds like your body shop is an art shop, not a buisness. EDIT: Oh yea, car looks like it's gonna be awsome. Nice color scheme by the sound of it, different but sounds like you've got taste.

it would be best for the person with the MOST bandwidth to start the torrent. I've already got people dling from my torrent, but if someone with high bandwidth made one we could have well over 10 people seeding by tomarrow I bet. I'm about to head to bed for the night so my cap is going up to 25k/sec
-
I can start a torrent to share the file. But I have to throttle my bandwidth to 5k/sec (serious gamers, and even sharing our 40k/sec is hard) but once more people have it we should get some good speeds going. Ok, torrent is up. I personally recomend azureus for a torrent program, but any program should work. If you're behind a firewall you might have issues with port access. http://thepiratebay.org/search.php?q=PINKZ

Or even better "but there's no replacement for displacement!" yea, buncha sand bagging idiots. I wonder how much they were really sandbagging. I've watched it twice and it didn't seems as bad the second time. I'm gonna compare the two nitrous runs and compare. I'm thinking that the nitrous was a BIG shot and the motor was built for it. If that's the case the cars might have been fairly even heads up that night with no nitrous. Sure we know the Z could have been faster and was having issues, but if you watch the 4th race it seems the monte is pulling pretty hard and it was a close race. If that was really close to all out NA then heads up should be a good race. In the 1st race the Z had a bad launch that made it a poor comparison race. (correct me if I'm wrong garrett but it seemed to me the 1st race was one of the slowest of the 5) just my .02 cents. We definately could have taken them on though with the Z in good running condition.

mtcookson - Hp wise I was compairing stock vs - stock. I'd personally say the VG30 has MORE potential then the 1uz, beucase if you want power with the 1uz your limited to ALOT of part searching, where as with the stock VG30ET it's mostly turbo system mods within good taste. I only mention the reliability issue from what I've heard. At my local pick-n-pull there's at least 2 new 300ZX cars a week, at a new turbo model at least twice a month, wich is the main reason I'm thinking about doing one of these swaps. Due to these car's stout bottom I assume the problems people are having with them aren't major, and with how many there are around here it shouldn't be a problem replacing any parts.
-
my mix was 40/60 when i first put it in, and i was only filling it with water. By the looks of it right now it's probly 60/40. Coolant mixture could be making it hard for the car to cool down once it's overheating, i have thought of that. But that's usually not the root of a overheating problem.

I odered one of the 14 inch models off of ebay today. I'll let you guys know how well it works on my ZX once I get it installed. I was going to go with a 14 inch flex-a-lite syclone series and these ones on ebay look 90% identical. The 3 year warrenty is what really got me buying. Who cares if the motor burns out in a year if they replace it? And also I ordered a flex-a-lit fan controller on summit so hopefully setting that up will be a snap. I'll post my review of the fan here once I have it installed.
-
Doesn't the USDM VG30ET still have the turbo on the driver's side? I guess i'm worng but i'd assume the difference would be that the steering rack is different in the 300ZX. I'll go look for some engine bay pics of stock 300ZX turbos to check what side it's on. You can see in this pic that the angle of the input on the steering rack is totally different and isn't verdical like the on in your 280ZX Click thumbnail to enlarge I just went out to double check on my car but my ZX has a totally different power steering setup. I'll take some pics, and I'll try to get some time on a lift so I can get some decent pictures.
-
Yea, that could be an issue for me. In cali if I get different headers I won't be able to legalise the swap as the headers have to be C.A.R.B. legal. Would the motor be just plain too high in order to clear it, or are you just going for as low of a mount as possible?

I can hear the coolant boiling when it gets really hot on the guage, so i tend to believe it. And the thermostat should be fine, it's a quality replacement part bought from a european part supplier that has a very reliable history. Plus it was overheating with the old thermostat as well. I've though about both things so don't think it's stupid possabilities, just ones that i've gone over. Looks like i'll have to either buy a POS electric fan from a local store (kragen, autozone) or i'll have to by one from summit wich will take longer to arrive. If I go with summit I'll probly get a 14 inch flex-a-lite syclone and a flex-a-lite adjustable fan controller. I'm about to start researching and seeing what other people use on thier Zs.
