Thanks for the info on3go. Kinda weird, because BMI tested the idea of the aluminium roof that the MR has over the RS by running it through a cone course and then laying a blanket of heavy rubber on the roof to bring the roof weight to what the RS is, and the MR ran FASTER with the extra weight! Weird eh? Maybe it has to do with the YAW being more active with the extra weight.

Gotta give ya props man. hanging with a 03 cobra with 580 at the wheels. What kinda numbers are you putting down?

My rule of thumb is Rice = Any mindless modification. Performance or not. If it was done purely for show, or cool factor, it's Rice. This is why there are rice mustangs. Like V6 stang with a full saleen body & even the saleen badges. I once saw a fox body stang that had virtually EVERY symbol that ever came on a stang. Well over 30 symbols. That's rice in my opinion. American rice.

Triumphs are a must. Dang fun to drive. I think you need to worry about performance/show mods as a mian source of income, and then to the project cars 110% and make them real show pieces. Make a car that you can pitch as a "one of a kind" so you can actually get your money out of it. And the AE86 is a small percentage of the jap market that will increase in value. Now, if you're doing performance work, exspecially head/valve train work you're charging for your knowledge more than anything else. This is where money is at.

i still wonder how much faster the MR is in straight line performance. Man, I should just go buy a L28ET right now. I would be SO satisfied with 170 at the wheels. Forget beating evos, i just want a fun drive! Great to hear the Z is working so well though slownrusty 8)

The mesh DOES look like PSU sleeving, but I've NEVER seen heatshrink like that come with a PSU sleeve kit.

I've always wanted to own/co own a performance shop. on3go would be the perfect name. Either i'm gonna buy the name from you or we're going into biz together 8)

WHAT RON?!?! I live in the bay area and see AT LEAST 3 z cars S30-83' per day. Saw a HOT N' SEXY black S30 the other day up in a residential area by san pablo dam road. Had dual side exhast (i was assuming V8) roll car/cage (it was night, i could see the V) no passanger mirror. Looked clean. Looked serious. I saw/raced (not sure if it was REALLY a race, but he seemed to be going all out) a S30 that needed "brightening" if ya know what i mean. Had decentlly loud exhast. I pulled away in top of 2nd. I figured either I own 5 speed over 4 speed or he wasn't really going all out. Shouldn't a carbed (sounded carbed) S30 beat my ZX with ease? I wonder if anyone on here will spot me sometime. I was out in haward today. I'm usually just in the easy bay area though pinole, hercules, richmond, san pablo, el sobrante. I'm still wondering if the guy I bought my Z from is on thier board. Owes (don't know if he still has, he was talking about selling it) a 79-83ZX that was painted red and the first night I went and looked at the car he has just put on side pipes. Sounded GOOD. Up by my friend's house in el sobrante there's this NICE oem looking Z but I never get a change to look at it up close because the guy always goes right into his garage. There's a black ZX turbo up the street from me. I'm contimplating going an overnight motor swap and seeing if he notices

My brother's 93 cobra pulled like crazy (for a stock car in it's era it's BAD!). He could get on the freeway and be well over 90 MPH without even trying. First week he had the car we're getting on the freeway and he never went over 2500 and he was like "why traffic going so slow? Oh crap, i'm going 95 man!" The gt40 is a great motor from the era it decends. The DOHC 4.6 is a killer motor. But I see your point about the normal 4.6 OHC motors. They're only supposed to power in the top end, strictly for fuel reasons. The 99-04 GTs got better gas milage then th 96' dodge intrepid my mom owned...

Cuz young people hate thier names. Older people are just used to them. (obviously this is the joke answer, if you want a most serious and philisophically deep answer read on) You see, every generation in history has tried to be different in some form or another from thier ancestors. We're living in a day in age where people can life thier life as anyone they want to be. The find refuge in coming and ideal instead of just being "thier father's son". The real question is what is the next generation going to do, becuase i've already beaten the handle idea to the "dead horse" status. It's almost a joke now. Now, I've been Gollumandsmeagol for... 11 years now. I remember upgrading to AOL 3.0 and my computer not being able run it.... So i had to uninstall and reinstall 2.0. My handle is an outward expression of who I am. If you just use your real name or a variation of it then you either 1) don't care 2) Have no desire to be anything you aren't 3) don't understand the idea of expressing yourself via handle or 4) or think having a handle is stoopid. Knowing that i'm 18 and I've been known as Gollum for 11 years on the net, you realise I was only 7 when I came up with that. If I was THAT into books back THEN, how much more so am I now? You can tell alot about a person by thier handle. (sometimes. depends on how serious they are about thier handle creation). Some people also have multiple handles. Some of my other ones are smeagol, Poseidon, & Architeuthis Hope this might bring some light to the odd minds of today's youth & computer people ion general.

You know what this mean? The Z car is history...

Nope, name is chuck. Co-ownes an antique gun shop in walnut creek. Great little shop.

Once the motor is fully broken in you should be getting about as good of HP as you'll see out of it stock. My main question is "is it going to burn oil". Seeing as practically all turbo motors burn oil on some level makes me curious as to how mitsu claims the evo will NEVER burn oil if broken in properly. I was thinking the SRT might be the same way.

I saw a S30 Z out at sacramento raceway running 14.3s. When I asked him if anything was wrong with his car he got really pissed off at me. Hopefully he doesn't cruz this board as i might get some nasty PMs. I don't rememeber his name though. It turned out he was a friend of a friend of a friend, so i felt REALLY bad about the whole ordeal. If I had known he would have reacted that way I would have simply asked what mods he had. Weather the car wasn't running right or the guy didn't know how to drive I never found out. But it sure sounded sweet. There was also a blue L28ET Z there, but they were having mechanical issues (can't remember what). They said they where in the hight 12's. If you're mainly interesting in drag times i'd say SBC is the way to go. Cheep reliable power, and faily easy swap by comparison to most other motors.

Ok, here's an idea. How many people here think that a cop could tell weather or not a RB25DE/RB26DE came in a ZX? I mean, even my best friend who has his smog lisence says that most smog shops would pass it without even knowing if it all looked right. It's either that or a L28ET for me in the future. And a L28ET won't get the same MPG/HP ratio as the RB motors. My only other option would be to sell my ZX and get a presmog S30 Z. So, comments on local law enforment?

I know how you feel. Check out the quarter panel damage. All becuase I didn't want to replace an e-brake cable right away and it poped out of gear on a hill with no curbs http://www.cardomain.com/ride/713235/2 But, i've got a new baby now and she rocks (in my opinion). Your Z is/was awsome man. Hope the body work goes well. I've been here for a year and a half (i think) and my car sucks by comparison, and you've been here for less than a month. I almost feel like I don't deserve to be here man.

Depending on the chassis charictaristics that might be perfect though stony. Take the WRX for example, subrau designed it be slightly front heavy, so that the acceleration force in a turn would bring the car close to a 50/50 distro. When is a car ever really at a natural weight distro? Coasting, that's about it. When do you want a front weight bias? Braking. When do you want a rear biased weight? Acceleration. When do you want perfect balance? When you're accelerating out of a turn. If your car is at perfect 50/50 coming out a turn that will yeild a maximum traction ability for what tire you've got. If you're natural balance is 50/50 and you accelerate out of a turn you might have a distro closer to 45/55 (depending on how stiff your suspention is). The mian downside to weight distrobution in this school of though is increased understeer while braking, forcing you to brake a little earlier. But the ability to accelerate earlier and harder can be worth it. Now, in the STI this is severly important because it's AWD. If you have a rear heavy back end you can't push as hard on corner exit becuase the power distrobution is static. But the theories can still be applied to RWD cars. I'm totally expecting johnc to come in here and tear my ideas to peices, wich I'm fine with. I'm always up for learning something new.

in the words of topgear's clarkson "you see, I've always viewed a ferrari as a scaled down version of God." So what the Z is, is the scaled down brother of the skyline wich is a scaled down ferrari wich is a scaled down God. Hey, I'd be happy with a car that's 1/8 part god for only 30k... The really sick part is that when I was in england the count of ferraris was comparible to Z06s (C5) around here. And M3s where everywhere. How discusting. "There are too many damn people in this city with too much BLOODY MONEY!"

that's the best gif i've ever seen! that rocks man. on3go deserves a self titled thred if THAT many people didn't understand his handle.

If I were you i'd start learning your way around a good 3d editing program (3ds max 7 is killer). It'll really help you get visuals of what you want to do, and also help you communicate with whatever CNC shop you go through. EDIT: LOVE the signature pic BTW.

I KNEW it was a BMW silver the second I saw it. I don't know what it is about those BMW silvers but they stick out like a 5' 11" blonde in tokyo. Dead sexy man. I applaude the craftsmenship & the grueling labor. I've been to arizona during thier worst days of the year, and man is it awful. I'm used to the mildest weather in the universe so 10 minutes in weather like that and I'm done for the day. I run from A/Ced house, to A/Ced car, to A/Ced store ect. Truly a work of art. Most men (let alone women) will ever understand the art in it. 5 outa 5 rawkfists, cuz 5 outa 5 rocks would say "that's the heaviest thing I've seen since led zep man" m/m/m/m/m/

Same here as well. First time I saw his name I was like "who makes thier name one go? Maybe on ego? I dunno" then like 2 hours later it hit me. I felt dumb. That one tree hill crack was pretty halarious. So i'll make sure to call you mike if i ever meet you. Honestly though, I've always called people by thier handle, and sometimes it's easier. For instance, my buddy 3Ksage runs a CS team, and recently moved in with two teamates whom i've always reffered to as V3NOM & Linkx (pronounced venom & links) but come to find out they want me to call them thier real names in person, wich gets confusing because they're matt & pat. That's just messed up man, what are the odds that thier names rhyme like that? I'd like to petition this thred to become a sticky. This is the funniest thred I've ever seen here.

learn somtin' new everyday. I already understood that nos is not the proper term. But it's kinda become habbit for me as me and some friends love to bag on ricer guys who call it nawwz. And if you go around calling it N2O many people might not know what you're talking about. Which is why I usually call it nitrous. But the questoin still stands. Won't liquid nitrous puddle in the intake manifold?
