  7. thanks guys we are also going to install a ford 8.8 rear. MAZDA rx7 NISSAN l28et CHEVY th350 FORD 8.8 rear. maybe i'll nickname this car frankein 7
  8. i too ordered those flares but not sure if i like them.they fit well but i dont think its the look im after. maybe i'll keep the zg's and get different wheels. those team 3 wheels look nice. i also bought one of his ''ducktail spoilers" and i love it! its 5 inches tall and a 1 piece design. i wish it was a 3 piece because they extend past the hatch and right to the edges of the body lines. i'll get pics when i head back.
  9. oh im definately going to do the swap. i dont think anyone else has done it. we got the car for free with a blown engine and i had a complete l28 sitting on a stand next to it for a couple of years. i know a v8 would be an easy swap.this is just going to be a quick little car for the test and tune drags. i picked up the l28et complete with harness(pulled it myself) and thought it would be a cool car to have. this is my brothers project and thats what he wanted. i have messed with the turbo engine before and he loved them. now he wants one in his rx7 so i am going to swap it in for him. i told him to go v8 but he didnt want it. besides i think it would be a nice challenge. if you guys are interested heres some pics of my v8 datsun thanks to you all
  10. the t28 turbo is a step down dont do it! i see alot of people running some kind of t3/t4 turbo. there are alot of different combos. there are some people running t4 flanges and running bigger turbos with success. do a search for garrett76zt,zgad,and dont forget timz! hes at over 600hp with his l28. there are more guys out there. also check out the guys running the holset turbos from the dodge pickups. look for names like thumper, big phil and proxlamus. good luck and have fun!
  11. oh yeah thanks scottie and nismopu
  12. i got a chance to chat with a guy who did the swap and from what i gathered it takes some minor fabbing to do the crossmember swap. this places a rack and pinion in front of the crossmember eliminating the need to modify the oil pan.if we decide to go that route i'll take lots of pics and document the swap also.
  13. something like this?? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/T3-T-3-T4-hybrid-Turbo-Inlet-Weld-Flange-3-8-Steel_W0QQitemZ330058356150QQihZ014QQcategoryZ33742QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
  14. wow! yes we can make power with the rotary. we can make 400 hp with the rotary but for how long? how about the torque curve? yes you can stick a v8 in it as well. i know about the granny kits we looked into that. just wanted something different. you can stick a rotary in a z but not a z engine in a place of a roatry? its cool to see people fab up stuff for their z? but not for the mazda? i thought it would be cool to share my project here but according to you its just not worth it.
  15. holy crap i get the same kind of pain all of the time. it comes and goes. i hope that you can treat it somehow.
  16. its better than the rotary, cheap power, wanted something different. you are always bragging about how easy it is to make power with an l28so why not? why put a chevy engine in a z? i dont want to get into that kind of a discussion. i was chatting with a guy who did the 2nd gen front suspension swap into his sbf rx7.minor mods and fits fine. i may go that route. but then again setting the engine back would be neat. we are not going to autocross the car and will be running a chevy auto tranny. just thought it would be a fun different drag project that my brother and i can work on together.
  17. well not much of an update. been busy with work and way from the cars and all of my spare time went into getting the cars and tools moved into our new workshop. i found a complete engine and harness at the local you pull it and brought it back to the shop and loaded on the engine hoist. . as we started to lower the engine into the bay we noticed how tight it really was with all of the accesories compared to just the bare block. so we removed the clutch and a/c compressor to give us a bit more clearance. with the engine lowered into the bay we noticed that we had a problem with the engine all the way to the beat up firewall (we tried to gain a little room by beating it back with a hammer) the sump of the engine did not clear the drag link on the mazda. . i need opinions on how to aproach this guys! should i try to cut the firewall or do a rack swap? i have heard of the second gen suspension swap to use a rack system but there is little info on this. maybe a custom oil pan?
