  1. Assuming you are running similar diameter wheels to stock, I would run a 3.9 with a CR gearbox. The stock GTR/GTST turbo boxes are ~3.3:1 1'st and I would assume the CR gearset would be approximately the same as the L series CR box (2.96:1 1'st). Having run both a 'B' CR box and now a RB20DET box, I can say that the 3.7:1 was too short for the CR box and a 3.9:1 would have been a better choice.
  2. It's not the trim boot I'm having a problem with, it's the floorpan-to-gearstick boot. The RB gearstick has a rubber isolated top, so the gearstick is ~ 30mm diameter for most of its length. From the marks on the stick, the rubber boot used on the original car must have come right to the top of the gearstick, unlike the 'L' boots which sit at the bottom.
  3. Well, the box is is now, so I'm having to deal with the issue. I think I'll have to get a short-shift conversion anyway - the throw is waaaaay long compared to the 'B' box. Also, the gear-stick needs to be bent to allow clearance between itself and the console... and the only way to replace the rubber boot on the trans end is to replace the entire gearstick assembly, and my boot has a couple of splits in it
  4. Working from memory, the NAPS manifold had 35mm ID runners and a large plenum while most of the other manifolds were ~32/33mm ID with a tapered plenum. Turbo manifolds and early 280Z were also supposed to have the 35mm runners.
  5. The NAPS manifold is a later japanese domestic market manifold - they are supposed to flow better than the 'stock' manifolds, and were the preferred manifolds for Production Rally Car (PRC) rallying. It should have a two similar sized butterflies unlike the other style with large/small. I think I still have one under my house somewhere.... As for the Skyline/RB comment, the first skyline with an RB motor was (I think) the HR31, the R30/R31 etc came with L series engines, in either L24/L24E or L20A Turbo.
  6. My stub axles (Diff end) are a welded combination of Subaru shafts and Datsun 4-bolt flanges for universal joint half-shafts. But I would expect that any of the aftermarket plate type diffs would be sold with replacement stub axles... or at least one stub to replace the stepped shaft into the viscous centre.
  7. Nissan switched from the 110mm to 115mm in August 1976, according to the NISMO catalogue. FWIW, Subaru used the R180 with a viscous centre in some of their models, so I would expect that there are some aftermarket centres available that will fit the R180 housing (perhaps Kaaz?).
  8. Well, the RB engine has eaten the bearings in the modified B series box, so this morning I drove 580K (350miles) and collected a real RB20DET turbo gearbox. However - the gearstick arrangement is completely different with the RB box, and the A/B series floor boot is not going to work... or at least I don't think it will. Any recommendations for how to seal the floor to the gearstick?
  9. I think I will teach my kids that when they spin around until they fall down, it's because they are distributor
  10. O.K. - back away from the cat...

    Going turbo.

Personally, I'd buy the package. But don't forget to budget for an EFI pump, 280Z fuel tank, EFI fuel fillter etc. You might also need to change the fuel return line in the trans tunnel. The really early cars had a 1/4" return line, which is too small for EFI.
  12. There was a kid in my city who did that.... got the spider, but took the house with it.
  13. Sounds like most people agree it was a dumb idea... so how does this relate to "opinionated peacenik handwringers"?
  14. I have a friend with an R33 GTR V-Spec. In stock form (9spi boost) it's just not that quick. Power-to-weight wise, a Z with around 180Kw should win... unless the GTR is launched by side-stepping the clutch on the limiter. And have you guys seen how much a GTR clutch costs!
  15. O.K. - in Mid 2002, Al Qaeda (will I ever get the spelling right?) was estimated to have 500-600 'full' members with around 200 non-Arab members. The worldwide terrorist organisations had an estimated 20,000 members.
  16. Yes - but the point is that you can't impose democracy on a country that has social issues to deal with first. Somalia, Rwanda and even Afghanistan are all places where democracy is not a good fit, because the ethnic/social issues override everything else. Somalia is a an extreme case... but only because they have fallen back to 'tribal' mentality. What we should do is convert them all as Christians or Muslims (one religion per country only, thank you...), give them a few hundred years to get settled, and then make sure that they all have access to Social Security payments. Problem solved...
  17. Ahhhhh... Australia. Land of Motec, Haltech, Autronic, EMS, Microtech, Wolf.... FWIW, Autronic and Motec are the top two. Motec seems to have taken over the top slot in motor racing, but Autronic seems to be the unit of choice for forest rallying. Based on price, I'd go Autronic, but from reading the manual it is harder to set up (lots of tuning options). Haltech is for street...
