  1. Hi everyone, I finally got my engine back from the builder after 3.5 years and I want to make sure that the specs on it seem okay. It was a hassle and in the end, the builder forgot to put the oil pump spindle in so I would like some input on a few mods he made. F54 block with L28et ITM pistons with standard bore Stage 2 port work on P90 head, machined for double springs Isky Lash caps ground to .150" thick Dougherty Racing Cam installed at 106 degrees Schneider springs No 68022 Removed oil bypass in block and plugged hole Ported inlet area under oil filter for better flow Cam Specs Advertised duration 272/272 degrees Valve lift .410"/.410" Centerlines Intake/Exhaust 110/110 degrees Cam timing @ 0.20" Intake opens 26 BTDC degrees Intake closes 66 ABDC degrees Exhaust opens 66 BBDC degrees Exhaust closes 26 ATDC degrees Lobe separation angle 110 Degrees The turbo is a GT3076R .63 and I wanted this car to be streetable with some track use. Can I break in the new engine using a megasquirt tune from the sticky even though cam profiles might be different?
  2. Sounds like a $2,000 car
  3. In the picture, I have the bottom coolant banjo bolt aimed downward (this one goes to the passenger side of the engine block) to hopefully make the other coolant banjo bolt the only line for thermal siphoning. Is there an issue if I have both banjo bolts facing upward and thermal siphoning? With this bolt aimed downward, the steering shaft is in the way. Any ideas?
  4. I didn't want to mess around so I spent $12 on a piston stop from amazon. I rotated it one direction until it stopped, and then rotated the engine the other direction until it stopped. Right in the middle between the marks was my TDC. Go on amazon and search for Competition Cams 4795 Top Dead Center Stop, 14mm Bolt-Style
  5. I received a call from someone across the United states asking about specific Datsun items I am selling on craigslist. He wants to paypal me money for a fidanza flywheel and hood vents. He seemed like he knew about Datsun. I don't want to ship my items only to have the PayPal payment reversed and then my items are gone. Is there a way to protect me as a seller? Does selling the part on ebay makes things easier? Any ideas? He isn't a member of any z car sitest but claims he has a perfect ebay rating
  6. Okay, I have been reading about thermal siphoning and I just want to be clear on this. I have two banjo bolts for coolant on the turbo. I have the turbo tilted to where the coolant port nearest to the engine is slightly higher than the furthest port. I should have the bypass line from the thermostat connected to the higher turbo coolant port with the banjo bolt facing upward. On the lower coolant port, does my banjo bolt need to be facing downward so that the heated coolant will rise through the other line and back to the thermostat housing? Do I have the idea right?
  7. I am getting ready to try starting my NA-T but I am not sure how to hook up the vacuum lines to various components. I have a boost controller, turbo with no vacuum fitting on it, fuel pressure regulator, BOV, external wastegate, and a boost/vacuum gauge that need a vacuum source so I was wondering what the best way to hook all this up was. Also, I have the Tial MVS external wastegate but am not sure which of the top ports to plug. I have one vacuum source going into one of the bottom three ports but don't know what to do for the upper port and the hole directly on top. Any ideas? Is there a general maximum amount of tees you should use for one vacuum source?
  8. That worked perfectly! So I used the chaser first and then added the bottoming M10x1.50 tap and the ARP bolts bolt all the way in now. Thanks for the replies!
  9. I bought ARP head studs and the ARP thread chaser to get ready for my head swap. I chased the threads multiple times and have no gunk on the chaser anymore but the new studs won't go in all the way. What do I do to fix this? Planning on going turbo as soon as I can get the head on. I used cutting oil put q tips in the holes to clean them. When using the thread chaser on these holes, there is always a lot of resistance near the bottom but I can work through it. What do I do next? Fill the holes with carb cleaner and then q tip it again? I tried to double nut and get it all the way in but it stopped with a thread still to go. I pulled the stud and the bottom thread was ground off. So are the block holes not all completely the same depth? The longer studs go in fine. All of the smaller ones show 2 or 3 threads
  10. I didn't run a compression test and the engine ran fine with my N47 head. I am just changing over to P90 and turboing it so I wasn't sure if this was a major issue while tuning. Thanks for the help!
  11. I am converting my 280Z N42 block over to turbo so that I can get my megasquirt tune down before I put in my $3500 L28et that a shop is making. While swapping the head to the P90 one, I noticed that piston #1 has a really small chip in it. Is this a big issue that needs to be replaced immediately or will it be fine for tuning purposes?
  12. Hi everyone, I am looking for a complete, ready to go P90 head. Looking for a shipped price. My zip code is 95987.
  13. I was using the hole on the side of the thermostat housing (closest to the left wheel) as my bypass line previously. The outlet is aimed directly towards the back of the car and is pretty stuck in there. Is it okay if I make a loop with hose and run the line down near the front of the engine rather than across the fuel injector area? Is this line going to be pressurized or does it need to be pointing downward and is gravity fed?
  14. I have an N42 block with dished pistons, N47 head, 38mm Tial wastegate, Megasquirt, 550cc injectors, and a GT3076R .64 turbo ready to go on my car. From what I am reading on this site, the N47 is not a good head to run boost on so I am planning on running 5psi until I can find a P90 head. I have purchased a cheap manual boost controller but I do not know what spring I need for the wastegate. This car is street driven and will never see the track. I eventually would like to see 15psi. Can anyone recommend a specific spring that I need for my setup? I am super confused as to what spring to get in conjunction with a manual boost controller.
  15. My thermostat housing has two coolant sensors for my gauges and Megasquirt. The bypass line is still connected as shown in the 280Z cooling diagram and I have the heater hoses plugged at the block since I pulled out the heater equipment. I rounded out the coolant plug in the back of the block so I can't use that. Given my situation, what is the best way to route the coolant to my turbo? Am I going like this ? Old Heater hose in back of block>>Turbo>>old heater hose in front of block? Any suggestions? I would prefer to avoid tapping into the thermostat housing if possible unless that is the absolute best option.
  16. While cruising at 60 MPH, I started to hear some random metal screeching from the engine area that got louder and louder as time went on. When a screech would happen, could feel it on my feet and the engine would pull back a little Sounds like it is in the #6 cylinder area or where the transmission connects. Screech would last a fraction of a second. Any ideas what this could be? - I have a slight clunk near the rear when shifting. - When accelerating to 6200 RPMs, near 4800 RPMs and up, it will metal screech slightly and I will feel flat spots. - I can't get the screeching with the car revved to 6200 RPMS when not moving and in neutral - Gears shift fine, oil pressure is good, and engine was 170 degrees the whole time. No smoking after driving. - Sounds similar to our old Nissan truck when you turn on the AC except my 280Z does not have heat or AC. Any clue as to what I should look for?
  17. I have had my intercooler on a shelf in my garage for a few years now and last night I pulled it out to look at it. It appears that small mice have been in the tank and pooped in there. How do I clean this and can I get it hot tanked to clean everything?
  18. Car runs nearly perfect now but I have a new question. I drove around and then parked my car to grab something to eat. Temperature was 180 degrees when I turned the car of After 20 minutes of sitting, I turned on the car and I had idle surge. Temperature went to about 205. When I checked under the hood, the MAP hose was pretty warm. I put a few gallons of gas in the car and drove off and everything was fine and the temps dropped to 180 again. Is this possibly because I could have had low fuel? Or is this a tuning issue?
  19. Change the trigger offset to say 40 and then turn the crank until you are in the ball park of 40 degrees.
  20. I had a hard time starting my car at first. First off, I had low Z injectors so I had to put in resistors in. Then I loaded up the Cygnus file mentioned above. I opened the trigger wizard to see what number he had in there and adjusted my engine to fit that. For example, if he had 66 in there, I moved the crank to near 66 degrees. Engine fired right up so while it was idling, I took my timing light and used the trigger wizard again to get the timing advance reading from my crank to match what was in Tuner Studio. After that, the car ran very smooth.
  21. Man, this is embarrassing. After a long time I found that under the boost tab within Tunerstudio, I had fuel and spark cut at a low KPA.
  22. Hi everyone! I have MS2 3.57 in my NA 280Z and it always has had a low idle around 550. Other than that, the car drives fine and doesn't die. The other day I tried swapping in a new brake master cylinder and then I noticed a hissing sound coming from the master cylinder area so I checked to see if my low idle was because of a vacuum leak. I pulled the brake booster line to the intake and plugged it with my finger. I still got the low idle I had from before. When I adjusted timing from 18 degrees down to 10 and then back up to 35, the idle remains the same. When I had ignition timing of around 35 degrees for idle, I could unplug the brake booster line and the car would idle at 2500 RPMs. So is my low issue because of a vacuum leak somewhere or is my 240sx throttle body not letting enough air in? I do not have an O2 sensor in yet and hybridz won't let me upload an msq
  23. I bought some TTT coilovers awhile ago and I want to get them in. The problem for me is that a lot of the wheel components like the bearings need to be pressed onto the coilovers. Where do I take my wheel parts to get swapped over to the coilovers? An alignment shop or a machine shop with a press? How much would it cost to get these parts onto the coilovers (but not installed on the car)?
  24. I do have one and I messed with it last night but nothing seemed to be a fix. Let me see if I can load my msq when I get home. Thanks, guys. Also, it seems whenever I floor it even after slowly building up speed, it will pretty much die unless I lift off the gas pedal. Still Accel Enrichment?
  25. I have the L28E with Megasquirt and everything runs fine except for when I go WOT. I can accelerate quickly fine but if I give it quick throttle, the engine stops for a split second and then fires back on. Does this sound like a fuel delivery issue or a Megasquirt issue? Just wanted to check before messing with my tune
