  1. mobythevan, thanks for the pics, that looks really good to me. it looks like it fits very well, but then again i have a 280 and it might be a little different than yours. they offer a custom kit, they send you a template and you fill in all the numbers and they'll make it for $259 + tax and shipping. i'll probably just go and get the S&W, cant beat the price!
  2. thanks for the replies. my thing is, for now, i only need something to hold my harnesses in place. i would love to have a full cage custom built but thats anywhere from $800 - $2000. since the S&W and Jegs are so cheap, i thought, "well i may as well just go ahead and get a 4, 6, or 8 point roll bar, not the cage". i'm still concerned about safety as far as my head hitting the bars in an accident but i'm only 5'6" would this even be an issue? i guess if i got the 8 point S&W, i can always have a custom builder finish it up and complete the cage whenever the car is ready for track use, but suspension and brake setup is pretty expensive and it probably cant have it done for a while anyway. i'm only considering a roll bar right now b/c they are relatively inexpensive, and i'll need a seat belt to pass inspection. so i guess my question now is, if i had just a rollbar (with harness mounts) welded in, could a custom builder utilize that and "finish" the cage off, or would he have to start fresh? which would you get for just the rollbar, Jegs, S&W, or Autopower? Thanks again everyone
  3. cant find anything of help regarding the jegs. i cant shell out the cash for a custom.. whats my best option?
  4. i'm about to order it soon, some questions i ran a search and saw a bunch of custom cages, a few S&W ones.. the general consensus is that the customs are best but pricey and the S&W is good but needs to be modified to work. really, all i want is something like a roll bar or 6 point that i can mount my 4 point harnesses to but hell, the 8 point from S&W is so damn cheap, why not get that right? or am i wrong? this is a street car that i would like to take to the track every now and then (club events, not professional) any pics/opinions of the JEGS 6 or 8 point? THANKS!
  5. yes please do a writeup do you have pics?
  6. http://www.racemirrors.com they say "prices and blah blah last updated in 1/03" but i just spoke with the owner. they are still in business.. and i know a dude that just got some recently on his widebody 911 ... ahh that car is nuts.
  7. i picked the ones i'm going with.. a little pricey but they are super lightweight (for gram geeks ) and have a small footprint. this is what some JGTC race cars in japan and other club racers use. in the far left pic --> the bottom or top one.
  8. hey man, that is awesome that you are getting into it so young. what i like about this board is that a lot of guys here have owned and worked on Z's for a huge chunk of their life. you learn a lot working on the car yourself and hopefully with buddies too, to help you along the way. the collective experience of all these guys makes the experience a lot easier for "noobs" like me the education part is a must. sacrifice a little bit now and do well in school, seriously it will pay off. keep your car stock and learn the little things that go wrong. things WILL go wrong and you'll be fixing major things as time goes on. after a while, you'll have more experience, money, and confidence to do whatever you want. then go for the swap! good luck!
  9. huh? ed, thats a good point. as far as the heat, i wont be driving it during the day since i'll have no a/c and its just unbearable in this weather. when i first read your post, i was beginning to think you meant the heat was going to transfer up into the metal ball lol. but yeah... this thing will be driven at dusk/night only. i'm putting in HID's too
  10. i dont ever plan on driving my car during the daytime here in houston since i dont have a/c. it will be like that until next jan or feb when it starts to get cooler lol. in the meantime it will be a night driven or track driven car only.. but i still need to pass my "safety" inspection. i could go to someone that might "overlook" that part right?
  11. damn. well i have those chrome bullet mirrors but i think it would look better "frenched". i have one of those super wide rear view mirrors and can see out the back just fine w/o the side views.. but laws are laws. thanks guys.
  12. i would like to go without... but would it make me fail inspection, etc?
  13. that would be cool, yes. having the whole thing light up might be too bright for my eyes looks really awesome though! also, NIGEL, about your needle problem. there was a guy selling clear needles on ebay with LED's behind them.. i tried searching but i can't find them anymore (this was at least a year or 2 ago when i first saw them). i'll keep my eyes peeled for them though. i think it would look good with your setup edit: something similar to this but much much brighter and much cooler looking
  14. that looks awesome, would he be able to do something like that but have just the numbers light up in red or blue?
  15. thanks for the tip, i'll try to get it done this week then jason
  16. very nice! how much did you pay for them?
  17. sorry, not a Z.. but i had to post this. beautiful.
  18. metro, i would love for my car to look like yours! maybe one day hehe
  19. the shifter is a metal ball, similar to ferraris like this w/o the engraving (i would get this one but the engraving has the wrong shift pattern). it comes with the 3 adapters mentioned above. i think autozone has some adapters that come with their shift knobs, maybe one of those will work? http://www.dexmllc.com/ph308skt1.html
  20. damn. where does one go to get their shifter re-threaded?
  21. hey that would be great. how much are they typically worth?
  22. do you know which thread our shift knobs use? would it be any of these: (1) 5/16 x 18 Thread (2) 3/8 x 16 Coarse Thread (3) 3/8 x 24 FineThread these are supposedly "american" thread patterns... i'm hoping any one of these would work on our shifters
  23. thanks =) the previous owner half assed it with tons of bondo (about 2 inches thick!) so i had it blasted off and welded in the holes. too bad my camera wasnt working at the time, i wish i had more pictures of the transition
  24. datsunlover, would you want to part with one of those dizzys? i checked summit, but didnt see it for $350, last i checked it was $450? regardless..its too much for me right now. i definately want the msd 6al though
