That thing only works at so many mph though, good for freeway radar cameras but not for neighborhoods etc. I guess you could always play with the spring to make it easier to move... I'm in Cali too and the cops are anal! On my CRX, the plate was at a 45-60 degree angle and they gave me a fix it ticket for it! They said it had to be straight up and down. Owen

Nobody laugh... I really want to know about this thing

I REALLY like it! Oh, I mean the girl at the bottom of the page, what is that thing she's holding anyway? Owen -
This reminds me of the "dvd player in your z car" thread last week...again, to each his own! I'm sticking to the stock lites, just wish they were brighter. I'm not against the mods suggested here, I just haven't seen anything I like. Eric's tail lite gallery is a good idea. BTW, that picture of the GTO, I think that's what Tim240Z is doing. Owen

Doesn't your bumper have those little tabs that come down from the bumper? I guess you could always weld in some L-shaped brackets for the plate. I wouldn't drill the actual bumper. Owen

Dude, I'm glad all my bad luck is for the moment, confined to the garage! Tim, it wasn't the bearings, it was silicon gasket material which oozed out and got into the oil. Then it made it's way to the cylinder walls, heated up, and made a rubbery surface, hence the rubbery sound when we were turning it by hand. I THINK the rod to rod clearances at the crank are too small though. The engine is still tight to turn over with everything installed, but a book I read said it would take close to 45ft-lbs to turn it by hand. I tried this with my torque wrench and it was 43-45ft-lbs to turn. So I'm not too worried yet. Owen

Anyone into black magic, curses, etc??? I'm having so much bad luck with this car, I could write a novel. So I'm rebuilding the engine after having it seize on me, figure I might as well buy some trick parts like Cloyes Hex A-Just and their two piece button timing cover. It's a really high quality unit, but they don't give you any screws or a crank seal...OK, I'll use my old bolts. Wrong, they don't fit cuz the bolt shoulders hit the body of the cover! Next day, I use my lunch hour to get some socket head caps, wait all day to get home and finally get the damn thing mounted. OK, next, the damper. I get out my damper installer and start tightening the thing on, then SNAP, the damn damper installer bolt snaps off inside the snout of the crankshaft! Now I need to get bolt extractor bits and either tap the snout for a larger bolt thread or get it machined, which means tearing apart the partially assembled bottom end again... There must be a really strong curse on me, been lasting like 3 years now. So if anyone can do a strong countercurse, preferably be email, I'm all for it! wen

What's the difference between these DIY models and something like the Halmeter (which is the only acceptable aftermarket unit out there I hear)? I don;t have the skills or patience to build one of these DIY things, and $373 is kinda steep for the complete kit. Unless, it reads two O2s and displays them separately, etc. Owen

I think it was Big Phil who had a sweet subwoofer enclosure in the back of the Z. And I agree, the interior is one of the hardest places to "tune" mine is just BLACK, the only things that stand out are the white letters on the gauges and the door handles at the bottom of the door panel. I even painted my Moroso batt box black. I never liked the two tone interiors and DVD setups, who the hell is gonna watch DVDs in the car anyway?! BTW, finally saw Fast and the Furious for the first time, borrowed the DVD from a friend (never could get myself to actually pay money to see it). There was one Asian guy who was playing Nintendo or whatever in his car just before the start of his race, what a sterotypical movie... Owen

Ummm, I don't know what it says! But if you look closely at the gray spot just below the mirror stalk, you can see my name in a transparent font. Owen

An earlier idea I had was to have hi-po tubing up to the back exiting next to a pea shooter sized muffler which was just hanging there. The larger tubing would not show at all. But then I started thinking about the exhaust gasses coming into the rear hatch so I said forget it and just got a muffler with a 5-inch tip I looked into that Quicktime thing too, no way I'm gonna spend that much money...a simple cable operated thing with a return spring to shut it would be fine. That cutout thing in JC Whitney looks heavy though... Owen

Here's some stuff, I wonder if the 10mm plug wires are really better than the 8mms? http://www.taylorvertex.com/extreme.html Oh, my bad, the ceramics were Jacobs, but I'm sure there's others out there. http://www.jacobselectronics.com/products/sparkplugs/ultraceramic.htm got these from Jeg's, engine isn't running so can't say much yet.... Guess I better take those hydraulics off my shocks...damn, and I was so looking forward to bouncing the front wheels at the stoplites! All kidding aside, I don't have any problem with someone doing the full two-tone interior with DVD, etc. That person may not find a lot of advice here but we shouldn't turn them away in a rude manner. Gaudy can have all kinds of definitions and I've kept my comments to myself, even at HybridZ. I for one, would like to see some more old Z's in the import shows, but to compete nowadays...you gotta have the full system. I'm just content with nice wheels and flares, and to just have the Z sit in a corner of the car show, only to be noticed by people who truly appreciate it. Owen

Nion, what kinda headers are you using? I have the Hooker ceramics and during one of my startup and tuning attempts, I hit 220deg. One of the MSD plug boots was too close and melted away. After that the spark would fly out of the wire and create an arc to the nearest header tube. I have replaced these with cheapo Accel wires for the time being. Taylor I think sells wires with ceramic boots. Someone on chevytalk.com was talking about them. As for the fiberglass heat covers, I have some made by Spectre that were like $10 for 10ft. You just slide them over the boot and the wire. Owen

Thinking and not being able to DO can be frustrating. I was working in Japan for two years and spent the whole time reading stuff on the net, getting auto books sent over from the states, etc. This site is great if you want to start with a plan, you can see all our triumphs as well as mistakes Owen

This is all Greek to me. I just want a dash display to show what gear I'm in, like at the very first post in this thread. If anyone can make these cheap, I'd be interested. Oh, for a T56 please Owen

My dream is equal length EX manifolds, not a "log" that was welded up. Preferably stainless, with external wastegate, etc. No one makes a kit for this since where the turbos can be mounted varies greatly with each car. The "dream" part of this for me is money! Owen
-
I agree the turbos would fit up front on both sides of the water pump. I've seen people selling their used SBC EX manifolds, but they look more restrictive than effective. This guy's setup is SWEET! http://www.montygwilliams.com/ Owen

With everything still on the window, and the window all the way up. I just slid my hand in with an 8mm? wrench and loosened the two nuts that hold the handle on. Then pop the plunger arm out of that plastic thing. Don't lose this piece of plastic or you won't be able to open them from the outside. Owen

I'm using the GC setups, non-sectioned. 17x9 all around, don't remember the offets right now. Front +20 and rear +15? I'd have to check to be sure. Owen

I'm experiencing the same thing! Pressure goes up, then back to zero. There was one time when the engine was hot and pressure held at 20psi for a couple of minutes, but that was abnormal. Is it the fuel pump? Adjustable fuel press regulator? My guess would be that the regulator is somehow bad, like it's stuck open. Owen

What you don't see is the guy standing on the top of the engine trying to force it out. Owen

Just don't get a first gen/first production lot one, unless you want to find synchro shavings in your tranny! Ahh, the joys of working at Honda Owen

Pete you're stylin'! Did you coat the bumpers too or are those fiberglass? Owen
