  1. I've seen shops on the net that sell clear fuel-safe hoses, forgot where though...DOH! Owen
  2. I know these things need to hit a certain RPM before they start charging, but I read that this RPM only has to be hit once to hit the switch and then charging will begin. Is this true? Or does the alternator have to run continuously at the cut-in RPM? Thanks. Owen
  3. Free gas, huh Tim? Since I work at Honda I could get the NGV (natl gas vehicle) cheap AND drive in the carpool alone! Of course I didn't give it a second thought, this car makes 100hp at best! I'd rather drive my twin plate clutch-driven Z in bumper to bumper to traffic for over an hour each way everyday (whew). Hmmm, maybe I am a little crazy I doubt we could get tax deductions on propane Zs though...we'd probably have to get the the car officially certified won't we? Which I'm not even going to do because my block is older than the chassis. Maybe later... Owen
  4. Its really easy, I have the 18 circuit Painless kit. Sure its expensive but less time I have to spend buying wire and measuring, etc, the better. The Painless kit won't wire your gauge's tach signal, H2O temp sender wire, etc. but it will do all the gauge lights and grounds, headlites, taillites, etc. Where in Cali are you? Owen
  5. Saugus WILL be on fire once he gets those turbos in! Howz the project coming Dave B.?
  6. I was only 2 years old in 1975...that car is sweet (so are the rest). Are you ever gonna do another Z like that? I'd like to see more pix of the Z if there are any that weren't posted. Owen
  7. Here's a pic from this thread, with the correct connectors. http://www.hybridz.org/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=7&t=000009&p= The big red circle is the CAGS or skip-shift, you can cut it out if it gets in the way or just leave it in. If you leave it in, it isn't gonna hurt you unless you put power to it, which I wouldn't do because it's a signal from the ECU taking readings from the VSS, etc. Anr more important, you just don't need it! Owen
  8. How did I KNOW you were going to chime in??? You know me, if it's not abouve 80deg, I ain't warm!!! Owen
  9. Please educate me, if open headers and high flow exhausts are supposed to make more power, why are exhaust leaks bad? Are they just bad for torque? Thanks, Owen
  10. For those of you using the CSI electric water pump, or any electric water pump for that matter, do you totally lose the ability to have a heater? Or is there some kind of inline fitting for the rad hose that can be connected to the heater assy? Thanks, Owen
  11. I would do it, even though I know Tim240Z has and will disagree with me If you have the time, I would contact Signal Auto in Torrance, CA. I met a guy there who told me they are doing the same thing, SR20DET into a 240Z. They might give some useful info. Owen
  12. Wow! It sure beats using water or smoke! Owen
  13. Oh my god....I feel so inadequate now.... That thing looks sweet! I'd love to see writeups and photos of the steering and brake upgrades. Owen
  14. BTW, the product I was talking about was meant to reduce sound, like when you're driving through a cemetary. I have no idea what it does to back pressure. There's also this Japanese muffler company that took the idea and applied it to their muffler. It has a sliding tube inside which varies the tone of the muffler. Kinda like building a speaker box and sliding the tube in and out until you get the sound you like? JCW still sells that exhaust thing, heavy cast iron SOB wasn't it? Owen
  15. Check out the ads in the back of Carboy ,etc. Owen

    A pillar rust

I had the same problem, welded in where I could and plugged some other holes with JB Weld. I would definitely check all around, including rear hatch. Don't want to find it when the car's done! Some pix of mine http://www.v8zcar.com/s30z/body4.htm Owen
  17. Isn't there something about how the belts are mounted behind the seat? Like if the straps are too vertical, in a crash your spine will compress and it will really really hurt? I am currently using the triangle belt-buckle like things on the ends of the belts which wrar around the horizontal rollcage bar behind the seats. Oh, I need some quality eyebolts that'll fit the Datsun. Where to buy??? Owen
  18. Pete, Whaddya saying, rice isn't good enough for ya??? just kidding Don't tell me that doesn't look sweet This variable thing is old news to me, there's a manual system in Japan which is actuated with a cable, the same butterfly concept is used. Since I originally wasn't planning to use the ebrakes, I was gonna use the ebrake handle to pull the linkage actuating the butterfly. A motorized system would be cool but I don't need to spend any more money. The manual system I could build with spare parts in my garage! Owen
  19. From what I know only the early to 280ZX are the same. The hub for the 300ZX is different. You might want to check after market steering wheel companies to be sure. Owen
  20. When I first started with this, I had a slave cyl. from an Rx7 (don't remember what year) but it has a bleeder and bolts up the same way as the T56 slave (holes are a little off but no biggie) Thing is, it was too damn hard to push, maybe a bigger MC would help but I never pursued it any further. It's still in my garage just sitting there. You can also use the T5 style which if mounted the right way, can be used to push the clutch fork in. You need to make an L-shaped bracket with holes to mount the slave and holes to mount it to the T56. I saw this on the net somewhere. Owen
  21. Had my car running for a little bit and it is pretty damn loud! I have Hooker ceramic block huggers into 2.5s which upstep into two 3"s then into a single 3" Random Technology Cat then 3" all the way back. I'm using the Apex Dunk muffler cuz I liked the looks. The muffler is a big can with wool or whatever wrapped inside and it has no sound deadening capabilities whatsoever. I would recommend a muffler that is properly chambered, but I would also recommend a pre-silencer like my cat or like those bullet mufflers. Car isn't properly tuned yet so we'll see. Owen
  22. What year FC3S? Sounds like a good cheap mod! Owen
  23. I haven't been able to get anything for the Z! All I get is a "nope,we don't carry that" Owen
