  1. I'm not running yet but if it's too loud then I'm considering running addtional cylindrical mufflers underneath or those Spintechs. I'd also really like to hear more info from those who have used these! I agree that getting pulled over every time even if you're within the legal limits is too much of a hassle, not every officer is as lenient... I met with Alfonso a couple of weeks ago, he has a 327 in an old school RX7. It was really quiet and he told me he had a 2 into 1 config with a resonator on each pipe. Owen

    Rotay in a z

Rotaries rule! You might want to check out stocker Cosmo engines from Japan, or just the crank. If you're doing a rebuild might wanna spring for those new N1? seals too, expensive but much stronger I hear. Can't remember what car it was but Mazda has a new design for the ports on the rotary which makes it much more fuel efficient, I'll try and find the article. Also, try Racing Beat here in California, my friend's dad owns it. They aren't seen very much anymore except for Bonneville. Tri-rotor, tri-turbo...drool Owen

    emblem idea

That Z V8 emblem on the site looks too simple, like its just cut out of sheet metal. It's too long and tall too. I experimented with some plaster of paris as a mold but it sucked big time, even with a release agent. I'm gonna try polymer clay next. If that doesnt work I'm gonna try silicon or urethane which is kinda expensive... Anyone know where I can get clear pourable silicon with a high hardness rating for cheap? Owen
  5. I swear I pulled my brackets off an '83. I looked and looked at so many '81s and for the heck of it just looked at and '83 and found them! One day someone will sort all this info out... I found 2 1983's side by side but didn't have time to pull the second set cuz it was already starting to drizzle. Plus the yard I was at was 2 hours away from my house. Just go with the group buy and then the Nissan units as a second chance, it's really not worth it. So what's about a 300ZX caliper fitting these brackets? I'm always listening for new info! Someone point me to a thread or something. Owen

    CV clamps

Thanks. I'll see if I can find it. One thing though, I give up on the universal clamps I bought, I'm gonna try hose clamps and maybe whatever is in this article. Owen

    Binding question

Thanks, I'll try checking again tonite! Owen
  8. I've read the posts on installing the 280ZX? CV shafts on to the older Zs and read about the concerns of binding at full droop and full compression. My question is, how exactly do you check for this? I've spun the axles and have not felt any catching or heard any strange noises (not spinning fast enough?). Both axles turn smoothly, is that all I need to know? Thanks. Owen
  9. Fast Frog, Do you have any pictures of those emblems? Owen

    CV clamps

Thanks, I'll see how the universals work first. Got the adapters made and the diff mount will be finished tomorrow nite! Just gotta drill 2 more holes and then paint it. Owen

    CV clamps

I'm having trouble finding CV clamps/straps for my R230 CVs. Found some universal ones but they're not as wide and look pretty weak. Can I use hose clamp rings? If I put something in between the clamp and the boot, it shouldn't cut through, right? Owen
  12. Don't have a Ford but I was just reading about oils and additives and found an entertaining site. http://www.vtr.org/maintain/oil-overview.html Why is 10W-40 considered bad? Owen
  13. I would actually do it as soon as possible. One of the stupidest mistakes I did was to shop around for gauges and stuff AFTER getting the harness and partially installing it. So now, its really messy where the gauges splice into the Painless harness. I had to go thru "now wheres that +12V wire..now wheres that ACC wire" after having slid the flexible tubing over the harness. Don't tape it up in the very beginning unless you're sure you won't touch it again. If it weren't for the colors and wire lables, I would have gone crazy! Owen
  14. I may have some at home, ones that came with the car. I don't remember what they are or what the rate is, they may even be cut too. If you want me to check, let me know by email. Owen
  15. How big is this hole? Is it for the bearing? Owen

    SR20Z/F20C1Z

Ditto that on the S2000 engine, I work at Honda and we have to get on some huge waiting list just to buy one! I would go with the SR20, you're wanting the turbo spec SR20DET engine right? 200HP out of one of those should be really easy. Too easy? Keep us posted. Owen
  17. I did the Painless 18-circuit in my '73 Z. It was really easy, the only thing that I really used my brain on was where to mount the fuse box (put it on the drivers side wall next to the clutch dead pedal). Everything else was smooth. Oh, I didn't use the GM column thingy. And there is one point in the harness, for the hi and low beams, that is joined in the middle by one of those plastic connectors. The terminals inside are kinda loose and the connector body isn't made too well either. That's it. Gotta get some hi-po relays now... Owen
  18. Welded on...word is there are two types of this bracket. The welded on and the bolted on, which I have from an '83 Max. I guess you could cut these off but I think your choice of calipers and rotors are limited, other than the Maxima ones. Seems like the Max brackets would be like the JCR ones which Mike Kelley had before? Owen
  19. What kind of intercooler are you going to run, 2 separate ones or a single with two inlets? Check out the Chevy bulletin boards, Z28.com was it? Also I think it was Skulte Designs who had the twin turbo LT1 Firebird. This is one of those subjects we've all thought about and said "one day...". If I ever did it, it would most likely be a big single hybrid turbo. But if the Saab ones are available...try it! Good luck Owen
  20. I don't know if the calipers are the same as the ZX calipers but I vaguely remember having to swap left for right in order to mount them correctly. Other than that, all you have to do is figure out the e-brake. Owen
  21. Good find! Anyone up for a group buy???? Owen
  22. A CD 10 inches across??? Oh, you mean records? Anyway, the noise level I don't know yet, but I'm sure these things aren't called Apex Megaphone mufflers (in Japan) for nothing "thats actually pretty cool looking do you have any more pics of the car up?" Yes, click on my signature picture or go to v8zcar.topcities.com/s30z/quo.htm The wheels, are HRE somethings. They were off an RX7 (FC3S) 16-inch face, -12 offset I believe. Actually want to sell these one day, the chrome is in bad condition but I don't know what kind of wheels to replace them with...maybe Work Equips. Owen
  23. Jamie, I'll post some pix when I get a chance, hopefully later this week. Owen
  24. That be me....Haven't fired it up yet. Soon...soon... pictures at the bottom. Can't believe those pictures were from last year, and the car hasnt changed a bit! http://v8zcar.topcities.com/s30z/exhaust.htm Owen
  25. You have a '76 right? I swapped a tank from a '76 into my '73 so all those years should fit. One thing though, the older tanks won't have the baffles for the EFI pickups in the tank. You could always get them welded in but...keep looking Owen
