  1. I didn't celebrate for an entire year once... (religeous reasons) I don't recommend it. You don't want to know. But believe me when I finally beat the chicken, it was like trying ice-cream for the first time. WTF was wrong with me anyway? Stupid Stupid Stupid. I made a pact that day that NO chicken of mine will ever go unbeaten for religeous reasons again! Then I got married.
  2. (800) 255-0088 mostly the same stuff. MSA has been good to me so far. Found some things for the Z that would otherwise never have found. Pricey though no doubt.
  3. ...the adjudication of English lexicography. Albeit not literally in this case.
  4. does it HAVE to have a 7 speed... Now I have transmission envy. (building a 6-speed for my Z)
  5. I heard with these plugs, you can run on water, turn water into gasoline, and with a mere flash of the spark, part raging rivers so you can cross safely in a storm. I am thinking, "wow this is the best thing since summit racing" but then I looked in my wallet and realized I blew my whole wad on my Edelbrock SBC swap. So I went out and bought $.59 Autilite plugs from Kragen. Oh well, I guess I'll never know for sure. But hey, let me plug his website a few hundred times on every forum I know anyway.
  6. Zhadman, Inventor is extreamly similar to solidworks. Mechanical Desktop sucks eggs if you are used to anything else, but it grows on you I've been told especially when you get into writing scripts. (BTW you can write scripts with PRO-E although I secretly hate PRO-E it's not that bad.) Put it in your config.pro Try this one. mapkey wht @MAPKEY_NAMEWhite screen backgound;@MAPKEY_LABELWhite-screen; mapkey(continued) ~ Select `main_dlg_cur` `MenuBar1`1 `View`; mapkey(continued) ~ Close `main_dlg_cur` `MenuBar1`; 7. Well, the Civil war was supposed to start in 2004, but due tot he 1-2% difference between his worldline and ours it may be a few more months. But seriously he threw me when he said there was no income taxes , then he said there was income taxes several times and they were bumming everone out this time of year. I smell John Carrey not Tilter... Are you sure they aren't the same? John, could you please just tell us in 2-4 WORDS, are you for or against the dang war??? COME ON!!! More importantly, who will this Civil war involve? I think it'll be east coast vs. west coast rap stars. And they have the bank roll to get results.
  8. I think you have a either pre-inventor 7 or they screwed it up in 8, because 7 had no problems.
  9. I hate Pro-E Wildfire, Ive used it for over a year now after coming off Autodesk Inventor with autocadd 2004, which by the way is the best darn software on the planet for modeling. I have 1 year experiance in Inventor (expert ruler of the universe in inventor and autocadd 2004, 6 months in Solidworks (not an expert but good enough), and my first love was SDRC IDEAS, but inventor has them beat hands down. PRO-E sucks sucks sucks. I am pretty fast in it now though and I think it's on the level with IDEAS although the drafitng is pretty lame, it's ok, it's better than my experiance with solidworks drafting which was a severe pain in the butt in my experiance. Anyway, Pro-Mechanism will do amazing things I've heard but of course you wouldn't bother to use this unless you have an unlimited budget for analysis (like in mass production of seriously expensive crap). I used SW 2001Plus and it was buggy as heck. Autodesk Inventor is far far superior to SW for everything, and nearly never crashes unless you are tring to do something stupid. #1. Get a correct mouse driver. Go online and find the correct mouse driver for your brand mouse. The default driver in windows sucks for everything but ms products. #2. Learn to be dissapointed with Inventor, learn patience with it's considerable unstability expecially with large operations or on assemblies on the order of 200 parts plus. #3. I hope your new company has knowledgeable support staff without a proper setup you're going to be hating life for the first 6 months. #4 It's ok once you get the hang of it. 10. Why does something so simple have to be so complex? I just thought about it all day and came up with this scenario. you have an engine 4000RPM torque max and 6000RPM hp max. If you keep the speed constant... You have more "power" at the HP max then the Torque max because... Say your transmission is setup such that when you are in say 3rd at 6000RPM (hp max) and you shift to 4th down to 4000RPM (TORQUE MAX). Because you gearded down to get back to the torque max you actually lost torque at the wheels because even though you had less torque at the engine in 3rd at 6000RPM you have less mechanical advantage in 4th at 4000RPM. Can we find 7 other ways to rehash this? The final answer on this is use HP always to describe your engine, even if it is a 1.0L with 1000hp or a 10L Diesel with 1000 HP . But that 1.0L engine better have a CVT attached to it.
  11. I thought if their powers were equal they shoudl be equal, but my reasoning was flawed so I was confused. NOW I understand and will most probably forget by tomorrow. But yes, finally someone gets it. HP is a POWER!!! POWER is the energy you need to GO. Torque and HP are related so saying "let's concentrate on torque" will only confuse. HP is the key becasue it takes RPM into account, torque does not. 100ft-lbs at 5000rpm is very different than 100ft-lbs at 2000, but 100 hp at 5000 is exactly the same as 100 hp at 2000. Right?
  12. Wow, I totally missed the point, now it makes perfect sense. But my head hurts, too much thinking. Thanks 280. I will try to salvage my original thinking and come up with something else.
  13. They are very helpful, and let my also give a good reort on Summit Racing. They are also a great help.
  14. In the ideal world let's consider two cars assuming: Equally weighted cars (including engine and drivetrain) Perfect transmissions that will keep the RPM exactly at whatever your HP peak RPM is consistently with no shifting. Perfect traction (no slipping). Equal Aerodynamics. Car 1 has a 4L V8 with 300 peak HP at 5000RPM it's transmission will keep running at exactly 5000rpm Car 2 has a 2L I4 with 300 peak HP at 6500RPM it's transmission will keep running at exactly 6500rpm Two fast cars right? Which one is faster? Or are they equal? Remember Torque = HP X 5252/RPM (Ever notice on every dyno curve you have ever seen that HP and torque always cross at 5252? Not a coincidence.) Also HP = Torque X RPM/5252 Results: Car 1 has 315 ft-lbs of torque at 5000RPM Car 2 has 242 ft-lbs of torque at 6500RPM They have the same power rating, but car 1 has more torque and will always win. However, it is probable that Car 2 has a higher torque than car 1 at 6500RPM, so run them both at 6500PRM and Car 2 wins. In the real world: (IN GENERAL) Car 1 has a heavier drivetrain and engine and needs to be stiffer(heavier) to handle the extra torque. Car 2 has a higher peak and narrower powerband and will require a higher 1st ratio to get the torque to the road and more frequent shifting (more gears) as a result which wastes time. Car 1 will have a higher torque across the entire range of RPMs and a wider powerband would require fewer gear shifts. Car 2 will have better gas mileage because it can be made lighter and at lower RPMs the engine can be made to run more efficiently. So to truly compare one car to another we need weight, gear ratios, final drive ratio, the complete powerband curve, what tires they are using (size, brand and model), their aerodynamic signature including downforce and drag (assuming drivers are equal), and one heck of a complex empirically based formula taking all these into account. This could be done and we could make a simple number to tout your ride, but with unequal drivers, you could still lose. So to avoid this complexity we could just compare HP and be done with it.
  15. Wait a minute, the weight of the car would be a better comparison I think. (<100 hp X 21mpg)/4000 = .525 amazing! And the power is ubelieveable ! I need to finish that dang 240"Z" (310 hp X (10 to 30)mpg)/2600 = 1.5-3.5
  16. somehow that tiny little wheelchalk does not induce much confidence when 1200+ horses are unleashed. When I was in autoshop the car jumped off when shifting a manual from 1st to 2nd and nearly pulled the chains out of the ground and it was only a 500hp 400cid camero. The dyno wasn't used for the rest of the year. Just looks funny that's all.
  17. Here's the options: (don't forget about the parts cost for the actual exhaust) A. I buy the ultimate welder and all the junk necessary to run it including higher electrical service on the house and rewiring the garage ~$3-5k B. I buy a knock off welder and a minimum subset fo the junk needed to run it and maybe get away with 110V power in the garage or maybe a dryer hookup $1-2k C. I go to sears and buy a bargain basement welder and just barely enough junk to keep from huritng myself or causing a fire $500 D. I go to Midas, they install my exhaust $250-$500 E. I use clamps on everything and spend the next 4 weekends fixing leaks, probably don't fix them all, the fumes come in through the bad seals and rust holes int he floor and I slowly go insane with CO poisening. $100 and that's just the exhaust! dang.
  18. No straight man could make a car with so much style. I need a show on E "Queer Eye for the Straight Z-car owner". Seriously.
  19. In the future think about it as insurance... oh add insurance too why not they never get it, you still get your 100. Think of about $2-$7 to send a letter but guarentee a $100 return or you can at least be sure they got it, and who signed for it. Otherwise don't waste your time and don't buy if there is a rebate offer. (find it cheaper elsewhere). Luckily there are about 15 cell companies all clamering for your business.
  20. I shoudn't have had chicken for lunch, I'm going to be sick now.
  21. very tempting!!! I'm looking at spending double that for my conversion what a freekin deal! I could rob your car for parts and make out! Very freekin tempting. I hope it sells big dude! Reserve met? What's tha catch! Dang. So freekin tempted. it is worth 5k just for the fun of doing it yourself? Knowing what's there? Knowing where you cut corners (if any). If I didn't have the money to do it myself, I'd be on that car like ants on chewed gum.
