  1. thats my kind of ride! although MINE isn't that quick, but I have learned that 300ish hp is about the limits of worn out stock N/A trannies. car was my daily through college, original trans had 300k+ on it and lost 3rd and 5th on the way home, tossed in a j/y tranny and exploded 2nd gear on the dragstrip a couple months later (tires bit AS the clutch bit and something had to break) the pass before it broke was a 14.2 though, so it wasn't too bad for a motor with headers and a cam that was too much for the stock efi. proved multiple times that the rusty lil 280ZX that all my classmates made fun of WAS indeed the highest top end and best handling car of anyone on campus, including the instructors *STREET* cars, they have RACE cars that would eat me alive
  2. check all the linkages make sure nothings bent or anything unusual, could be a synchro or internal mechanism issue, doesn't sound like it would be the clutch if its not slipping at all.
  3. I would LOVE to get my hands on one of them BSR valve covers. nice snag
  4. considering both of mine came out of junkyards, I think I'm doing my part on that. Macambra, sounds like youve got yourself a good plan of attack, can't wait to see the pics
  5. my '78 does not have intermittent but it may have been an option either way it should still work without issues
  6. ok so 84 85 ish then, I don't recall dealing with anything pre 87ish that had one, but thats just my expirence
  7. yea, the clutch safety switch I don't think was even invented untill 88-89ish, then was not mandated untill a few years later
  8. yes it SHOULD be on a little sticker on the support, however if it was re-painted it may have been removed, or you could have an Oddball like my ZXR wich has the sticker but was never printed with the code... Xenon has the best z info site I've seen yet, and has the color chart... http://www.xenons130.com/colorchart.html
  9. got my motor all cleaned up and prepped and now waiting for me to finish rebuilding the webers.
  10. to me it looks liks the S-30 version of a ZXR whale tail... I like it... alot actually, may eventually track one down for my '78. but the ZXR gets finished first
  11. shouldn't be too hard to swap that auto climate crap out for a manual unit, and much love to anyone running the ZXR whale tail for pics you can hit the "go Advance" button at the bottom when making a post, scroll down a bit to additional options, there is an attatch files link there where you can upload your images like I just did. been awile since I've actually shown a pic of mine, this was taken a few years ago, its been torn apart for rebuilding since then, should be back together soon though, and not quite stock either
  12. ALMOST looks as if they'd lowered the upper deck on top of it for part of the journey, or too low to account for the bouncing of the cars down the road, with that in mind give the rear suspension a thourough lookin over just to see if everything is still straight on the underside, if they pushed down on it it coulda tweaked something
  13. Pics may help with guestimates from members, I'm no where near Tx so I couldn't tell you any locations. I would get in contact with whoever you had ship it and do as mutch bi***ing as possible to get them to cover atleast part of the repairs.
  14. I can speak for the ZXR whale tail, there is a slight difference in the way it absorbs road bumps @ 45ish, once you hit 70 it becomes a MASSIVE difference in the way the bumps feel, never ran on a full track without the spoiler for comparisons, but it does indeed help the back end plant in a slolom on an AutoX course. of course when Datsun claims 365lbs of downforce at 100MPH it should.
  15. I beleive thats a xenon peice, try Motorsport or Black Dragon
  16. after receiving a '78 ECM I discovered during the swapping proceedure the one in the car was a '77s, after installing the new one I was able to drive the car about 4x further than its let me get it yet, returning safely to its home in the garage without so much as a sputter. I'm gonna go ahead and say the ECM solved the problem
  17. just added the 2 83's from Pull-A-part, one of em may be a late '82 its completly gutted but I did get the build date off that one,7/82
  18. that was the 2nd thing that was done (dropping and cleaning the tank and fuel lines was first) and has probably been done 3 times or more now, I should be receiving a new ECM here in the next couple days, so being that's the last thing left that hasn't been quadruple checked or replaced, I'm keeping my fingers crossed this is the 7th L28 powered Z between myself and my father, and atleast the 30th L28 powered Z we've worked on, so we're well familiar with the cars and engines, being the first '78 we've come in contact with the electrical system is a little new, but everything elese has been tried... if the ECM doesn't fix it, I beleive I'll be pulling and swapping the entire wireing harness out of the '79 as it will be tri-webber powered when its done.
  19. sounds good, And understandable, the more information the more complicated it all gets
  20. is there going to be a way for users to veiw the cars registered? maybe block the vin info and owners names for privacy reasons, but I for one would like to be able to see how many are left of what as well, Especially if other ZXRs are Registered, as we only seem to know of about 12 of them confirmed still existing.
  21. AutoZone just started selling from a new manufacturer, but they look to be put together better, and only cost $105 or somethin like that, with 1 yr warranty. I just got this one almost 2 weeks ago, don't get to drive the car much as it's the 78 that don't run right... but I'll keep everyone posted on the luck with it... I've gone through 4 factory pumps and probably a cheap store replacement probably about every 6-8 months when I'm able to drive the car, and I KNOW my tanks have no rust, the one in the 'ZXR is plastic and CLEAN, I think the motor just gives out.
  22. seems like 90% of s-130s that've been sitting for years and the owner sells cheap it turns out to be the fuel pump was its demise... that's been the case in my expirences
  23. I may be back this weekend, scavenging parts for my scout since they had one too... I'll grab em if I do
  24. I like the sideskirts on that one, you know who made them? they seem to blend into the factory flareing in the fenders more than any others I've seen
