My new 15x8 rims pictures
briann510 replied to roninjiro's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
You can have 15x10 custom 4x4.5 made by Centerline. Just call them and tell them what specs. I talked to them earlier this year about them and also 15x12's being made for about $225 per. Money talks, they will make whatever you want. -
They guy we bought the car from a few years ago said he put MSA lowering springs on it and it lowered it 1.5". Im not sure what the stock height of the 240z is, so I have no idea how accurate what he told me is. It as a toss up going with the 8" wide or 7" wide rims though. I think it looks better with the 8's withthat wide of a tire.

These are Weld 15x8 Draglites with 4.5" backspacing and 0 offset with 235-60 Mickey Thompson drag radials. This was close with 3/8" clearance on stock strut tube with lowering springs altho I would have liked it to be tucked in about 1/2" more from fender lip but ill take it. It doesnt hit or scrub with suspension compression on bumps.

Swapping 280Z 4 speed to 5 speed. Parts needed?
briann510 replied to MOTORHEAD427's topic in Drivetrain
Depending what the car is going to be used for will be the tranny choice for ratios. My son is more into drag racing and stop light to stop light brutal acceleration with large drag radials so the 4 speed was the choice with the really low 1st. even swapping rims/tires its still an excellant road racer also with a top speed still of 125 mph. 1st gear is very low for the 240z 4 speed (3.55) and even lower for the 260z 4 speed and if you have the traction both will get you out of the hole quiker as compared to the 280z 1st gear ratio (3.321). here is a breakdown of ratios for 4 and 5 speeds: 240Z 3.549 2.197 1.42 1.00 '70-'73 260Z 3.592 2.246 1.415 1.00 '74-'78 280Z 3.321 2.077 1.308 1.00 0.864 '75-'79 280ZXa 3.062 1.858 1.308 1.00 0.777 '8/79-'80 280ZXb 3.062 1.858 1.308 1.00 0.745 '81-'83 280ZXT 3.500 2.144 1.375 1.00 0.780 '81-'83 -
Swapping 280Z 4 speed to 5 speed. Parts needed?

No problem Eric. The cars looks are very intimidating for sure as my son likes it that way (the cops pull it over alot also just because it looks not street legal). Its a fun car for sure and within a couple mins of changing tires/rims can be used for different venues. -

Our 240z IS driven on the street, 1/4 mile tracks, road racing tracks and also the freeway frequently so im not sure what you thought our car was used for. It has over 10K street driven/street raced miles on it and about 200+ road track miles and alot of freeway driven also with no problems currently with the Rebello racing engine and it does quite well doing all 3 scenerios. So it is ready for track, street or freeway driving/racing depending on our mood. Correct me if I'm wrong but that sounds like to me what you want your car to be able to do correct? -

I have triples setup and with the 3.55 ratio first gear and drag radials it launces like a rocket. Driving around town it can easily start out in 2nd if not racing someone. My son and I went out and tried some hard launches the other day in 1st against my 11 second Z06 and he kills me on the launches easily by 3+ cars through 1st and 2nd and then I have to chase him down. So for stop light to stop light or runs through 3rd its damn quick and thats why we wanted the 4 speed with the really low 1st gear. -

I looked around for 2 months for a decent zx 5 speed but never came across one for sale. Started on a 240sx conversion but it never materialized on the other end. Gotta use whats available.... All this will be mute when the LS6 goes in next spring. -
Swapping 280Z 4 speed to 5 speed. Parts needed?

Actually there is less of a 2-3 gap ratio now for us running this 4 speed vs the 77 280z 5 speed we had in it before. (3.549/2.197/1.42 vs 3.321/2.077/1.308). Very close actually between the 2 cept for 1st gear which we like really low to get us our hard launches for drag racing. Dont even notice rpm hurting wide ratio drops when shifting at 7500 with a 4.38 rear it winds up so fast anyway. Agreed the zx 5 speed has the better 2-3 ratio. I just dont have one ready to throw in but had quite a few 4 speeds laying around so went with what we had as we want a very low 1st. -

We just took out our 3.90 open rear and 5 speed and put in a 4.38 LSD and 4 speed with the 3.55 1st gear ratio. Its night and day difference on acceleration through the gears now. Its now a road race car and a stop light to stop light terror (even more so than before). we dont need any 5th gear for what we use it for. -
Went with carbs just because they made more HP than the available EFI setups that were locally available and ready to bolt on....Also didnt want to go the computerized route at that time and liked the look of the Mikunis. Never installed the nitrous system on this car and pretty much had about $1500 in nitrous system parts all ready to go on it.

Engine/chassi dyno numbers are only as good as the operator running it son numbers can be drastricaly different dyno to dyno and operators running them. Rebello engine Dyno'd our engine at 312.9. A few weeks later we got over to the chassis dyno and after a few jetting changes with a couple hours of pulls ended up a best of 287 rwhp (afterwards we realized we had 2 bad fouled/misfiring plugs on the dyno pulls, but we never went back to do more dyno runs after we sorted out the misfiring plugs problem but I bet we would have close to 295+ rwhp or so if we did some new pulls). Our best 1/4 mile time is 12.68 at 111 with open 3.90 and 215-60-14's with a horrible 60 footer. car weight with driver at 2735 lbs (car 4 corner weighed on calibrated Longacre digital scales). The car is very streetable altho has very little traction 1st and 2nd gear with the 215-60-14 radial ta tires on there now with the new 4.38 lsd in but new rims/tires (275-50-15's with MT dr's) are going on soon. With a decent DR launch, the new LSD and my son losing 100+ lbs himself, he's now hoping to be pulling some 12.30's. People are very surprised when they see a NA straight 6 when the hood is popped. They full expect a turbo or V8 to be under there for its quickness.

briann510 replied to jtmny1999's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension, and Chassis
Has anyone used MSA's style below for just the rears? I dont need anything fancy, just something to put some +camber back in that the lowering springs went overboard on -camber. I guess I shou ask if these are ok to use on the fronts also to gain a little bit ore -camber. Until we do coilovers/weld in plates later next year this is just a temporary cheap alternative. -
Well I'll let ya know how long ours lasts with our billet mount. Im not worried about it and im not changing it and when it tears the crossmember up ill just replace it with another one. The car isnt driven much and it will probably last longer than me.
-
Ah, I wasnt seeing the whole picture of the negative effects other than noise on running a solid mount. Im gonna start looking for some ways to remedy the flexing stress of the X-member. The above pictures and posts give me some ideas. Pisses me off I didnt really look at this post when I had the R200 out and could have whipped up a custom mount on the bench. Thanks

Finally finished up the R200 4.38 LSD tonight, and went for a spin thinking the solid diff mount was gonna be some horrible sounding noise and we would have to go home and take it off. Didnt even notice anything much different as it was before noise wise with stock mount. The car is so loud anyway I doubted we would hear it anyway. So im happy as can be with the solid mount and it will stay.
