  1. Allright! here is the quote from the other thread "The sheet metal grease cover on the 300ZX CV axle has a smaller dimple than the 280ZX Turbo CV axle. This dimple houses the pre-load spring. The smaller dimple cover can be used on the 280ZX axles and this makes them easier to install on the earlier Z cars."
  2. Its the 280zxt setup. I dont think this setup im suppose to remove those gold end plates (which would solve the problem)otherwise the grease in there is gonna leak out and the spring would then rest on the stub end and nut instead of the extended center spring recess in existing end or i could machine a flat plate instead, but it should needall that as I think it suppose to be bolt on with no mickey mousing around.
  3. The gold plate end cover wont sit flush against adapters by about 1/4". And here is the end piece thats hitting.
  4. I got a thread file last night and all is well now!
  5. I need to get a thread file or die and before I head down to find one does anyone know what size the stub axle threads are for early Z cars? Its just the first couple threads messed up a little but I dont want to have to buy a whole kit. I think its a 20mm x 1.50 but wanna make sure. thanks I found confirmation that is the size and cant find die anywhere in stock thats 20mm!
  6. Thanks Jon. Weird how all the parts places (even Motorsportauto), lists different part numbers for the front seal R200's broken down in 74-89 z/zx, 90zx, early 91 zx and late 91-96 zx. The side seals though are all listed the same thru all the years. I guess different pinion flanges were used but I mic'd my 2 I have from both my R200's and they both seem to be the same dia and everything else identical, altho different 4 bolt patterns on them (one is a round bolt flange off my old Z R200 I need to reuse to match driveshaft and the other is the rectangle 4 bolt flange off R31 Skyline 4.38 LSD im swapping in). To be safe ill just get the early Z seal for the old R200 flange.
  7. I have a 86-89 skyline (R31) R200 LSD im putting new seals in and am curious if they are the same seals that z cars used in their R200 rears. parts place isnt listing a skyline as a choice in part numbers, only Z and ZX's of different years R200's. I would think all R200 would have same size seals. Maybe i need to match up the year of Z seals to the zxt cv axles im using and same for pinion flange im using.
  8. Yes ive been reading alot on the stickies. so much information, so little time!
  9. Thanks...guess i learn something new everyday with this car.
  10. Never seen this type of strap before when I removed my R200 this week. Do all of them have these straps above the nose?
  11. what does Zbarn charge to rebuild a 5 speed?
  12. 4mm We have 9000 miles of very hard brutal abuse of this engine and every shift at or above 6K and cruising rpms always at 4K or over with no overheating problems, oil useage, no thin wall problems and nothing busted etc etc. Its one damn good engine.
  13. Heres one on ebay right now http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Datsun-240Z-280Z-280ZX-Stroker-Crank_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ107058QQihZ003QQitemZ130010804311QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW
  14. Use a plumbers small line pipe camera with light on it (just like surgeons use) and go in the oil drain bolt hole to look for the V07 on the throw. Ive used one to make sure a allen screw fell to the bottom of the pan before firing up a Pontiac engine once. And I did see it with the cam laying in the bottom, so i was happy.
  15. Yup, drag strip and street no catch can for block breather. Just never hooked one up as I didnt care.
  16. I dump mine to the ground with a hose. The hose never has any residue in it or drippings out the other end either. Its stays rather clean.
  17. I agree on the newer cars, but on older performance engines without computer controls it just aint the same. I for one am not interested in fuel economy or emissions of any kind on the cars I race.
  18. If you think introducing crap back into your intake charge is good for perfomance go for it. Its like second hand smoke. YOU DONT NEED IT!
  19. We have had our CF DF clutch in for 8K hard driven and raced mile with no problems at all. These include countless dragstrip 4K launches with drag radials and pretty much every shift around town done at 6500 and slammed into the next gear. Its grabbing today just as well as it did when it was installed. As noted in post above mine also, I also have a CF DF in my 600 hp Pontiac and the clutch is fine after 3 years of hard driving/racing.
  20. my son has decided to keep it now and do some major upgrades. it was for sale for 2 months and no one had the money to buy it for even half of what we wanted for it. we have been doing 1.8 60 foots with best of 12.68 at 109 with a 3.90 open rear. the stubbies held up and even the stock halfshafts, but its making alot of racket now as the rear is shot as well as the halfshafts.
  21. Hopefully the billet stub axles and adapters I bought from Ross at MM will hold up to it! so far with our 3.90's we have had about 30 5K launches on them and the stock 280 stubbies have held up just fine.
  22. Its gonna be for our z with 10-12" wide rear rims and massive drag radials to rocket out of the hole.
