  1. Agree its all in the tweaking...we gained an additional 22 or so rwhp re-jetting the carbs and such.
  2. Did you make several dyno runs when you got your 192 rwhp? you said you are at 38 degrees total which is ALOT for a stroker. We run 30 degrees total on ours for best rwhp.
  3. Yes I bought a new billet grille for a Chevy Astro van off Ebay for $40 (I think it was for 84-89 years but cant remember exact year span). We had to remove one of the tubes and the 4 mounting brackets, and then mounted it upside down (You will have to make your own brackets to mount it). We also had to do quite a bit of measuring and trimming with tin snips of each side to follow the contour of the edges of the fender and headlight buckets. It wasnt a quick easy job and I am surprised we got it on the first try on the cutting and it actually fit pretty good. It does look mean as heck when its coming up behind you in the rear view mirror. Most people think its got a v8 under the hood because ofthe huge grille.
  4. Funny you should mention removing the rear bumper as that is exactly what my son has been wanting to do for a longtime. Personally I think it would be ugly looking, but I think hes gonna do it and ill just have to see how it turns out. jus thave to plug or fill the holes...
  5. Were you thinking something like our billet grille I custom fit? Hated the front bumper look and plus it got rid of 30 lbs of weight.
  6. Yes briann510 is on this board also yes our stroker is a mild one putting out approx 280 rwhp. runs on 91 octane with 9.6:1 compression with a mild custom ground cam. we were thinking of raising compression and changing cams to get over 300 rwhp, but just havnt done it yet. doing a lsd, coilovers, different 5 speed and yz flare kit first.
  7. well thats nice, but why do you think they are called "junk" yards, but thats not the question that i asked was it....
  8. not to hijack this thread, but you guys know of anyone in the san francisco bay area that rebuilds 280z 5 speed tranmissions and is competant in knowing what they are doing?
  9. looking around for competant shops that would do a datsun 5 speed tranny rebuild in the san francisco area. thanks
  10. yes we will most likely be buying custom wheels, altho Jason wants to go black, so they arent real expensive. found quite a few for under $100 a piece in the 4 bolt pattern all the way up to 14" wide. i think your wheels are 4 bolt or did you go to 5 bolt? Thanks
  11. hey Dan longtime n osee on here..or in person! So if i go with 4.5" backspacing and 15x10 rims, with my stock springs i may hit it sounds like since you have coilovers and only have 1/4" clearance. i might have to back off the backspacing a little. i was always told that 4.5" backspacing would work period with stock springs with ANY rim....hmm interesting...
  12. so it looks like maybe will have to stick with 10" wide rims....looks like actually getting the flares on first before buying the rims and tires to make the exact measurements.... looks like lots more invesitgating on all this....but reactions website does mention running 15x12's and 335 tires within the flares, so im just not sure why there is some controversy on it.
  13. ive talked to a couple people and they have said i can run 15x12's with 4.5" backspacing and run a mickey thompson DR 325/50R15 and it should fit just fine within the yz flares im hearing, but im being very cautious here as i hate to buy the rims/tires and not have it fit. im gonna give the manufacturer a call and talk it over with him also. backspacing is the all important factor here.
  14. our car is lowered and uses the stock struts and NOT coilovers (and no coilovers planned for this flare install either). problem might be since the car is lowered how tall a rim/tire combo we can use. if we go with too tall of a rim/tire we might have to raise the rear up a little which i really dont want to do. we really want the deep dish look of really wide rims which is made using different backspacing, im just not sure for that look what kind of backspacing we need to use. on some cars with really wide rims ive seen practically no dish at all and its almost the edge of the rim mounting surface on the outside tire side. so basically we are going with a 15x12 and just have to figure what exact backspacing to use with stock struts. there are many more tire choices for a 15 inch and will go with that. thanks much for the replies and pictures.
  15. sorry, i posted in one forum and the computer hung up so i didnt show up right away and i thought it didnt post, so i reposted in the other forum. my bad...
  16. many people say adding a header doesnt do a thing for a stock engine on the Z's. i figure it cant hurt any and it looks much better than the stock exhaust manifold also. on ours a header is needed for sure, but a totally stock engine probably not anything gained performance wise.
  17. Plan on getting 15x10" size with 4.5" offset, and want to make sure they will fit inside of the YZ type rear flares. i dont think the 15x12" will fit though, but maybe someone can shed some light on sizes that will. Thanks

  19. They ARE the hot setup on a street car. ours run perfect and they were jetted damn close before it even went on the dyno. only thing we had to change was 2 steps down on fuel jets and a couple steps up on pumps once on the dyno and we probably could have left them and been fine they were that close. the only time we actually did a mpg calculation on them was at 21 mpg on a 100 mile trip. we have over 6K on the engine and have never had to resynch them nor rejet them since.
  20. personally i only like the VX2000 seats. they are wider and fit people with larger than 38" waists. they are very comfortable and also alot more expensive also that their other models.
  21. the engine just doesnt usually wanna go much over 3500 rpms when its vapor locking. we had that problem last year and fixed it by a bigger return line and wrapping the fuel lines under the hood with heat wrap and putting a heat barrier between carbs and header. it went away after that.
  22. was it the same dyno and operator? same air temperature and humidity? it can make a pretty substantial difference on results just with air temp and operator inputs on the mustang dyno.
  23. sorry i missed the original joke as commented on... most of the cops around here already know the car for its speed. been pulled over and all they wanna do is look at it and comment how bad it looks and sounds. but your comment is fully understandable and i agree (and ill append the exact speed comment), but the track isnt available when out late on a friday or saturday night.
  24. some L6's need them.... putting a roll cage in ours because its frequently driven above 55 mph on the freeway and if a dog runs out in front of us or a we get a blowout.... i want a cage!
  25. he is gonna have to cheat. bribe someone, or find a stock z his year and swap the vin tags and plates to get it through. i know a guy that went to a junk yard and removed the vin plate on a 72 and turned his 76 into a 72 for exactly the same reason. dmv dont like engine swaps like that period.
