  1. I am sorry for my vagueness, i was on my way to bed when i posted, thought i gave enough info... well its going to be an NA L28, running triple webber 45s, aiming for 10.5:1 static CR, F54 block, N42 head with un-shrouded valves, 5 angle valve job, light P+P. the better+shorter valve stem seals etc. Depending on how good the shop is, i might go for the 38mm exhaust valves, and some fairly serious porting. Exhaust is headers into 2.5" full system with one muffler. cam is most likely going to be either of these: intake+exhaust duration 292 (225@0.075); .495 lift OR intake+exhaust duration 282 (232@0.075); .518 lift Going to be mainly NA, but with the very occasional spray of nitrous, going direct port wet setup. MSD ignition. probly max 125 shot. Using prepped stock rods, so what ever sized gudgeon pin suits them. 1 fast z: Those are the sort of things that i do not know, or have experience with, and the sort of information i need to attain from people who have had pistons made, if there is anyone out there. The AZC pistons are not really an option for me, I am in Australia, so I was going to go to a manufacturer here and see what they can do for me. If there is anything else I can add to be more helpful, or anyone with some of the missing information, please post up. Thanks, Chris.
  2. I get about that aswell in my S130 with 3.7 and 245/65/14s. I should not have a licence anymore with how i drive. putting about 230-240hp to the tyres.
  3. Hello fellow Zeders. I am building up a nice L28 for my 260Z. One thing i am stalled on is finding the specs i need for the pistons, I am aiming for flat tops, 0.040 overbore, stock L28 crank, Stock rods. I need all the info i can get. I searched but most of the limited info is for stroker motors. I want to get as close to sitting flush as i can. I will post up later with exactly what information the manufacturer requires to make them. Thanks in advance for the help.
  4. '78 260Z, L28, 2.5", SU's. Now trying to decide between an RB or a SBC. Both will cost about the same, RB will be easier for me though, as I have already swapped one into a Z.
  5. Hey, I have a 1981 S130 2+2 Had it almost 4 years now, first i removed all the rust, rust proofed it, and painted it. Then I drove it as my first car for about a year. Now Its running an RB20DET, aftermarket ECU, 3" straight through turbo back custom exhaust, FMIC, and a lil more boost. Pushin around 240rwhp. made 221 on 10psi, now running 14.

    1uzfe?

a full half cut over here in Oz is no more than AU$1500. can get em for 1200. i would say look around first if you are thinking of buying that.
  7. so far i am $3000 australian into my Z, including buying it and few repaint. I have the motor + the mounts. all i need is my gearbox, and my new gauges. and a couple weekends. only going to be a daily driver, so nothing too special.
  8. all i have is an RB20 running a lil more boost, and its running at 230ish rwhp (221rwhp on stock boost, now running 12 psi)
  9. sweet, thanks for that, pretty much exactly what i am aiming for.
  10. thats not as bad as i thought it would be. I am only hoping for 165rwhp with F54 with flat top pistons, 1mm overbore, N42 head, 460/280 cam, properly tuned SUs, extractors and a 2.5" exhaust.
  11. yeah he has a S130 he just got for free.
  12. i would like to see some videos of it once its all properly tuned.
  13. hey mate, hit up Rocket Industries. they sell heaps of American stuff, including centerlines.
  14. fuel pump could be on the way out, so now when the 2ndries open and the car demands more fuel and air, the pump cant keep up.
  15. I cant help you im sorry, but you sure helped me. I had never thought of mounting it all like that, best idea. Ohh im gonna have some fun...
  16. I think what alot of you need to realise is that we are both in Australia. We never had the L28et over here, NO ONE makes turbo parts for them. where as we have an abundant supply of skylines and cefieros and laurels which all have the RB20DET. it would be atleast 10 times easier to find RB20 parts here than it would L28et parts. so the argument about finding parts is invalid.
  17. I just love the sound the guy makes on the vid link posted, classic.
  18. hey its not a bad idea really considering how cheap parts are. thats one reason i am going Chevy. One guy in the sydney/newcastle area had swapped in a commodore (buick) 3.8L V6
  19. hey i totally get that you have a thing for that motor, i was just trying to give you some ideas. Redline make a tripple webber manifold, or jump on some Z club sites and search for 2nd hand carb setups. Crane or Crow, cant remember which one, makes some good cams for the Zeds, suspension 1st, then carbs, then go for headwork + cam.
  20. being in Oz, i would say RB20DET. I have one in my 280ZX, that was a bolt in swap, all i needed was the 200ZR sump and oil pick up and it all bolted right in. The engine mounts have the same distance from the bolt centers. engine mount - gearbox mount distance is the same. Same bolt size for gearbox mount. shifter location was about 1 inch forward. cant see any major probs in a S30. lighter weight in the 240Z will be better than my car. And there is just something about spinning to 8-9k rpm in a Z. I am still using stock turbo + injectors etc etc, and made 221rwhp on stock boost. where in Oz are you?
  21. probly not the answer you are looking for mate, but here is what i can tell ya. For $144 you can get engine mounts from Castlemain Rod Shop, + $100 for someone to fab up a custom gearbox mount for you. $200 for custom driveshaft. $750 for a running 350 sbc $300 for a trimatic or celica 5spd then spend the rest of the 3g on little things like rad hoses, fuel pump, etc. That sould put you right around 225 hp at the flywheel, atleast, and lots of room for improvement. I would say i could do another RB20DET swap for $5000 now with what i know. and i would budget about the same for the chev. in oz there is not enough support for the L series.
  22. just another thing i am curious about, why did you get a custom driveshaft made? The spline on the L series box is the same as the RB20 box, and mine was even the correct length from the start.
  23. well we should be getting a good video camera soon, so i will be posting a video on the next couple weeks. and to snowboardin58: yeah the various Z clubs around have regular meets, depending on where in Oz you will be, and what time of year, you might be able to catch the Dat Nats.
  24. pics please. really interesting. must, see, pics.
