  1. Starting to think about gun safes vs gun cabinets too. One thing I've noticed is that the safes start at about 700 lbs. That would be a real bitch to get home and set up. I can only assume that if you buy a safe delivery is included...

I have 2 gun safes, I bought both and yes they included delivery and setup, mine are bolted to the floor. Check though cause often they post a cheap price and delivery and setup is extra. They are a good idea cause you can store all your valuables and irreplacable papers in them too on the shelves. Fireproof rating is a good idea also and some cheap ones don't have them. I got the extra upgraded fire rating when I got mine.

  2. Got the car started again tonight and there is no comparison between the edelbrock and the holley HP. In a nutshell, you get what you pay for. Idle quality, throttle response and secondary opening (not exactly a fair comparison a vacuum secondary vs a mechanical secondary).

My only complaint might be a cold startup without a choke. We shall see again tomorrow since the carb comes filled with some kind of solvent.

I was really impressed with the throttle response, it wasn't that for off from the fuel injection! It may still need a little tuning, but overall I think I made the right decision and I did my share of consumer confidence in spending, at least for the month....

    Cool! :2thumbs:

  3. I worked for schlumberger for 4 years. You will be hammering and packing iron for quite awhile. You will go to their in-house engineering school and driving school and get your cdl when you get out. I already had mine so it was no big deal to me.

The work is hard, the hours are long and you will be doing cement testing, cement head pressure testing, etc. grunt work for probably a year or so before you bust out running any jobs. If you stay with them then it'll be ok, if that's not what you want to do better look elsewhere. I believe they have a 10% success rate with engineers which is why they hire so many. Out of my class of 25 or so only 3 or 4 still work there.

Oh, you will get a job offer before you leave the interview, I'll bet $5 on that! It's a guaranteed job deal.

  4. I would suggest renting the Glock, Sig, and XD. See which one feels the best to you. The more comfortable you are with it the better you will shoot. I have an XD45 and absolutly love it. I don't care for glocks in general but the shells eject straight up and bounce off my head half the time. The SIG is overpriced and heavy. It all depends on you, everyone has there personal preferences but you actually shooting them will make the right decision for you.

I agree, the glock kind of sucks in the ejection dept. Doesn't feel the same as the XD either. I'd take the XD over the glock any day having shot both.

  5. Yeah, me too. I think from the vids that I have watched the gtr is definately easier to drive to it's limits than other cars. That doesn't mean you'll be the fastest but probably faster than if you were driving the vette that requires alot of throttle control along with alot of driving skills.

  6. As to the 1911 thing, I will go test fire one. I've heard it suggested too many times not to at this point. I know that a 1911 is potentially more accurate, but it also seems like you need to spend $1500 on one to get those results. Is that incorrect?

A Ferrari F40 would be a better car to race than my built up Z, but I'm still building the Z if you get my drift. I appreciate ALL the comments though. Keep them coming, I feel like I'm getting closer...

JM i don't have over $1000 in my series 80 enhanced SS 1911 switchbarrel gun that I bought new which included feed ramp mods, match bushing fitted, match link, all the plastic trigger parts replaced with metal, target hammer, trigger job, SS .400 corbon barrel, matching recoil spring, match bushing, etc., all fitted and ready to go. I guess if your buying new from a store that is one thing paying retail, but you might just look around and find a good used one and a good gunsmith. Look up Frank Combs at the shooting iron on the net. I hear he builds awesome .45's for a great price. You could ship it to him and he can send it back. Ever see a 1911 feed empty cases from the Clip!????!!!

As for accuracy, it'll out shoot anyone here in IPSC.

  7. BTW, let me guess, it was a Para Ordnance that hit you in the face with the piping hot shells. I used to have one of those too. I also have one of those Colt Custom Combat Commanders. Believe it or not, it would not even feed ball rounds brand new. Feedramp was way too rough. It gets old sending guns back to the factory for issues which they shouldn't have.

No, it was a Llama. Or if you prefer, a POS. It also didn't feed round nose well.

A properly massaged 1911 will feed empty cases without any problems. Spending a little money making it function properly is kind of like making a hybrid z or any other car your custom jewel. The fun is in the modifying.

Any copentent gunsmith can make that happen pretty cheaply IMO.

  8. Looks like it's holding the bridge up! LOL!

BTW that is a track hoe not a back hoe. Weight of that one is about 60,000+ lbs not 8 tons. That was a 50 ton lowboy hauling it before the wreck. Detachable neck model. Total weight would have been over 90,000lb.

  9. I have a custom colt .45 switchbarrel gun with the .400 corbon barrel. kicks some serious butt at the jerk and squirt competitions here! wouldnt have anything else. sorry for the lack of proper punctuation the keyboards in mexico are different.
