  1. looks like the Mercedez-Benz SLR Mclaren come with rims that has aero effect to it : http://parkoffka.ru/media/4/20060126-!MercedesSLR.jpg
  2. wow, I didn't know the idea was/is actually tried, but also commercialized. Good to know. Thanks for the history and pics. The spinner probably won't have much effect because the spinner is brought up to speed with a bit of friction. The real fan blades are attached solidly to the rims so the fans are forced to spin at the same speed as the tires; solidly mounted fan blades can put down enought work to move decent amount of air to create partial vacuum.
  3. Wait a minute Phil, didn't you tap the engine block to install a knock sensor(I may be wrong, it could be someone else). The knock sensor didn't retard the timing to prevent serious detonation?
  4. stopped doing Z stuff.... http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=102952&highlight=JSK http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=107984&highlight=JSK
  5. I don't think there is a difference in connectors, afterall, the same connector pattern carrys over to Z31 300ZX and Maxima The two most common causes of electronics failure : corroded connectors and electrolyte type capacitor failure, check those two after you receive it(if you end up buying it). Logically, the best way to test whether an ECU is good is to pulg it to an engine that matchs the ECU and is trouble free(in your case : a trouble free 83ZXT), if it runs = good, if it doesn't = bad.
  6. The b-spec is good for making money, but can't expect the computer to deliver great times, it is kinda stupid sometimes. In Circuit de la Sarthe, the b-spec driver will crash into the left side of wall on the STRAIGHTAWAY and then keep trying to go into the wall for no reason. The more A-spec points you have, the better your b-spec driver is....
  7. why would people spend time/money to look for a car with perfect body, spend time/money to buy a car with a perfect body, spend the time/money to cut it up, spend the time/money to remove the bad body panels from a rotten car, spend the time/money to weld the good body panels to the rotten car, spend the time and money to cover up the welding seams on the rotten car, spend time/money to dispose of the cut-up car that used to have the perfect body? Wouldn't it be easier to start over with the car with the perfect body or sell it to someone else?
  8. A list of Datsun trucks, it says something about a 3L OHV engine and a 4L OHV straight 6 engine http://www.geocities.com/motorcity/pit/3823/truck.html
  9. Yes 110 octane will have good anti knock property. However it is not a liquid meaning no matter how rich you run the car, the combustion chamber will not cool down like when gasoline or E85(100 octane) is used. It might have to pair up with water/methanol injection to run real boost.
  10. you a pilot? cool. what do you fly? I want to take up flying but is it too costly?
  11. Guys, I got this weird idea after reading some threads here...what if fan blades(just blades, not powered fans) are attached to each wheel to suck out more air from underneath the car? IIRC fans were used in racing to create vacuum under the car but they were banned outright. The diameter of a stockish Z car tire = 60cm =0.6m (24") 0.6mx Pi = 1.885 meters per rotation As I recall, at 140KPH(87MPH) is when a S30Z become a scary ride? Using that as a starting point for calculation : 140kph*1000 = 140000meters/hour 140000meter/hour/60 = 2333.333meters/minute 2333.333/1.885 = 1238 rotations per minute 140KPH = 1238 tire rotations per minute that means FOUR fan blades rotating at 1238rpm to suck out air from underneath the Z when it is going 140KPH or 87MPH If a Z is to travel at 200MPH(322KPH), there would be 4 fans each working at 2847RPM to create vacuum under the car!! The proper way to prep a Z aerodynamically is as outlined in other aero threads : seal the grill area so air either flow around the car or squeeze thru the radiator. But what if more downforce is needed without adding more wings? I do realize that it costs some power to move air so drivetrain drag will increase. Has this idea been tried? If so what are the results?
  12. the I6 already has evenly spaced exhaust pulses as is. The main goal for using single plane crank in V8 is to get exhaust pulses evenly from each bank : left right left right left right left right With cross plane crank, there are consecutive pulses from each bank (left, left and right, right), that gives a rougher/wilder/impure sound.
  13. it's a GT4 footage, unreal. I have that formula car in the game but am reluctant to drive it : you can't change oil on that car and horsepower degrades.
  14. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Datsun-Logo-Valve-Stem-Caps-240Z-280Z-Z-2-Sets_W0QQitemZ300114647815QQihZ020QQcategoryZ33747QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
  15. sorry can't help you there since I don't know US gun laws. If that Argentinian Mauser is the gun you are going hunting with, here's an idea : leave the cleaning rod in the car, the gun gets a better balance instantly, and it won't make sound from the rod rattling in the gun.
  16. finished single plane crank also exist in the configuration circled in blue. See attachment. The pic is narrow cuz the attachment size limit is 19.3Kb The crank configured in green needs two small counterweights in the middle to prevent the crank from bowing toward the 3456 direction. The crank in blue configuration does not require the two small counter weights since the adjacent journals are on opposite sides.
  17. huh, so a gun and a Gnose, never thought you have that kind of money. just kidding, nice grab!
  18. yeah that's why I asked, I looked the gun up in my book and it uses an exotic cartridge instead of the usual 8mm Mauser. Good to hear someone is still making ammo for it. Norma does a lot of "orphaned" cartridge. Before the milsurp ammo crates hit our market, Norma is the only supplier for Mosin-Nagant rounds in Canada. Very expensive too, IIRC 55$ for 20. ouch.
  19. Right, I've seen a picture of it placed next to a cross-plane one and there is a lot of weight saving. four of the smaller counterweights are gone, leaving only two large ones.
  20. I know this is not a V8 but here's what an L-series stroker sounds like when it has ITB carbs, short exhaust(headers only), and good tuning. Brianrn510's car, naked engine on the dyno : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=trimwWzl5fA Same engine but in a finished car with complete exhaust system : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6nI8a6j6Ia8 Hope you like the sound, I do
  21. BRAAP, The funny thing about that video is : it uses F430(replaces 360 Modena) as the feature car, but shows a cross-plane crank in the making...while I was pretty sure the F430 use single plane crank (I read it in a mag). So I thought the crank is prolly for 360 Modena and that part of video is old footage. Then you said 360 uses single plane cranks.... I'd guess the only Ferrari V8 car that doesn't need a single plane crank is the F40, since it is a turbo car, exhaust pulse sequence means jack, they all go thru a blender...but F40 is out of production for so long, why would they have a rack of F40 cranks in the factory. And then I saw you said F40 uses single plane crank as well... It's not old footage of old cranks being worked on since the video quality is consistent. Then perhaps Ferrari is making crankshafts for other car companies, but why would they do that? Dummy crankshafts for the show? Why would Ferrari go that far to cover-up their V8 crankshaft design? It's a typical single plane.... The plot thickens. To make the water muddier : the link posted by BobbyZ shows a front engine rear exhaust Ferrari Fiorano making Ferrari sounds. And looking at a video featuring the making of Fiorano, the CGI shows the engine paired with long tube 6 into 1 headers. That means a car can still have exotic sound EVEN though the exhaust pulses merges into one big pipe and have to travel all the way from the front to the back of the car. The Northstar Mr2 video (and V6 Pontiac Fiero) supports my hypothesis though : a non-exotic V8 without single plane crankshaft can make good sound if the exhaust is short.
  22. good buy on the Mauser, beautiful wood. Can you still get ammo for that one?
  23. Not all good sounding Ferrari V8 use single plane crankshaft...watch this Ferrari factory tour video. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-6457427583913966018 at 4:49 you see a Ferrari worker working on a V8 crankshaft, and it's a cross-plane.
  24. I've heard of deer hormone scent, obviously for luring deers, but what do they normally use skunk scent(stink) for? BTW that is a GREAT idea for messing with people. I might use it lol.
