  1. I'd be looking for a series 2 S130 being parted out and grab the rack and pinion for a conversion.
  2. Nice. I like standard and modified cars. But if you aren't sure there is a compromise. Just modify it but limit the mods to things that could be reversed. For example, go to town on the engine, gearbox, brakes, suspension, spoilers. Just leave the chasis and body work standard. If you ever regret it you can always revert to all the standard stuff.
  3. I don't think so. An A12 would not flow enough air to produce that power regardless of the size of turbo. The only remote possibility would be if they went on a radical reduction of circulating mass, reduced the stroke, increased the bore to the maximum, put the biggest possible valves etc, put the largest possible turbo and sacrificed every ounce of Torque in the persuit of pure horsepower figures. You'd end up with a glorified motorcyle engine which would be great so long as you were reving it at 10,000 RPM just to get the car moving. There is also the possibility it was the AY crossflow variant. More likely they played with the dyno settings to get it to spit out an over the top HP figure.
  4. I am running fronts from a Ford Falcon (An Australian Sedan). They are a 5000Lbs car so the brakes are quite good. On a Z they are excellent. Proabalby not quite as good as the willwoods but at least the pasts are readily available and cheap. I have used these brakes to stop from about 140MPH at Mt Panorama with no issues at all. I am also running 280zx rears with a hydraulic handbrake. The handbrake is important for me as I compete in motorkhanas (A bit like your Autocross but tighter and more technically challenging).
  5. So the forum obviously has advertising banners that are driven by a service that can identify a user's location by their IP address. This has thrown me a few times because I have logged in and been presented with an advert for a local (Australian) domain provider. But their advert shows an attractive model wearing a Z on her........ummm........well you'll see where. Obviously you guys wouldn't be seeing this advert on your side of the planet so I thought I should share it with you
  6. As the title suggests I am after a return spring from right rear brake caliper 280zx Series 1. Hopefully someone has one and would be willing to post to Australia. If so please let me know how much you want for it. I have Paypal to make payment easier. The reason is that I have converted to a 280zx rear setup in my S30 but the Series 2 spring is not strong enough to disengage the caliper (not to my liking anyway). I found one Series 1 spring and found it to be stronger. So now I just need one for the other side. Thanks Greg
  7. Not a chance, I already know yours is quicker......for now. When I win lotto it might be different
  8. Another update on the car. I have had the 280zx rear brake conversion in the car now for a while. I had already converted to a 280zx handbrake cable. But the sheath for the standard 280zx cable is unequal length. The cable itself was long enough to reach both sides but the sheath was about 4 inches short on one side. So at the time I made a steel adaptor to bridge the gap left by the short sheath. But it was dodgy and I've been intending to redo it for a while. So I have gathered a couple more cables. I cut the two long sides off and I am rejoining them together to make a cable that is equal length. I already had one attempt at rejoining them but the fittings I used were too bulky so I have purchased a swagging tool and the swages to redo the joint. We'll see how it goes this weekend.
  9. Correct Regarding the doors, I live in Queensland, Australia. The regulations here are a bit restrictive regarding modifications. I could probably do the doors but I would need to get them stress tested and I'd also need an Engineer's certificate to pass them for road use. I guess for me personally the othe challenge is getting a spare set of doors to make the copies. (I wouldn't want to risk damage to my only set of doors). The biggest surprise for me was the weight saving for the plenum cover. The original panel was about 8 pounds....might as well have been made from lead. The copy saved me more that 4 pounds. I would never have expected that sort of potential from such a simple panel. Plus I modified the copy to remove the vents. This was actually the primary objective as I had a leaky windscreen plenum. This modification stops rain water dripping onto my feet while driving. The ventilation still works fine , I guess it just sucks the air in from around the edges. It worked a treat and avoided all the hassle of stripping the car back for a proper plenum repair.
  10. Here is the list of modifications I have made with the difference it made. A few guidelines I am keeping to first. It is road registered so no Fibreglass doors. No cutting into the chasis but all else is fair game. The car has a full cage but even so I have the weight down to 1000KG (2204 pounds) I am in Australia so sorry about the measurements being metric (Multiply by 2.2 to get pounds). All the interior and sound deadening was removed during the rebuild. I do not know the weight saving. Fibreglass Plenum cover, $40, -2KG Fibreglass Front bumper, $50, -2kg Fibreglass Rear bumper, $50, -2kg Fibreglass Rear hatch, $400, -5kg Rear hatch glass, $200, -2kg Remove extra mounting lugs from diff, $0, -1Kg R200-R180 Diff Swap, $0, - 5kg Fibreglass Bonnet, $600, -5kg Bonnet hinge reduction, $0, -1Kg New Battery, $130, - 8.54kg Removed extra battery cables, $0, - 2.48KG Removed Battery Earth, $0 , -0.22KG Swap spoiler to good copy (less fibreglass), $0, -1KG EGR modification, $0, -0.5KG Dash replacement, $200, -4KG Dash Frame modification, $200, -1KG Removal of standard heater unit and replacement with hair dryers $30, -10KG Removal ov clock and replacement with a photocopy (just as accurate as original) $0, -0.2KG Replacement of half shafts with Wolf Creek CVs $1000, -1.6KG Enjoy the ride
  11. yes, so much so I regularly just randomly buy stuff on Ebay just to have packages arive in the mail Just received my new set of track tyres (Toyo 888 225/50/16) Now I am going to need a second shed to store all the stuff.
  12. looking for a stripper on the weekend, rotisserie, lying on your back, time and energy. You sure we are on the same page.
  13. Alternativly dim the lights in your garage, pour some beer and spirits all over the floor, install a metal pole in the centre, start playing some provocative music and maybe your car will start stripping itself Oh but you'll need to change the $500 into smaller notes and tuck it under the windscreen wiper I just hope your wife / girlfriend doesn't catch you.
  14. I have had a car blasted before and its quick and easy with good results. But it does really expose any weak points like rust. But I recently tried some stripping pads. They are pads that fit on a standard grinder and look like a circular dish sponge but are hard. I found them to be really effective stripping a door back to bare metal in about 15 minutes. I did use up one pad on the door so you would probably need about 10 or so for a whole car. I can't recall the brand but seeing as I am in Aus, it might not be useful for you anyway. But you can get a grinder for $30 or so plus $100 for 10 pads. $130 versus $500 is not a bad saving.
  15. It is one of the many variations of the Holden Commodore utility (low ground clearance compromise between a truck and car). These things drive more like a car than a truck and are super popular here in Australia. They have a V6 as a minimum but often have 5-6l V8 including a LS V8 option. http://www.google.com.au/search?q=maloo&hl=en&prmd=imvns&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=5_0hT7jhFO-SiAeC_-z8BA&ved=0CFoQsAQ&biw=1280&bih=871#hl=en&tbm=isch&sa=1&q=holden+commodore+ute&oq=commodore+ute&aq=1m&aqi=g1g-m9&aql=&gs_sm=c&gs_upl=167963l171212l0l173431l13l11l0l0l0l0l344l1265l2-4.1l5l0&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.,cf.osb&fp=ce657e049a9ade88&biw=1280&bih=871'>http://www.google.com.au/search?q=maloo&hl=en&prmd=imvns&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=5_0hT7jhFO-SiAeC_-z8BA&ved=0CFoQsAQ&biw=1280&bih=871#hl=en&tbm=isch&sa=1&q=holden+commodore+ute&oq=commodore+ute&aq=1m&aqi=g1g-m9&aql=&gs_sm=c&gs_upl=167963l171212l0l173431l13l11l0l0l0l0l344l1265l2-4.1l5l0&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.,cf.osb&fp=ce657e049a9ade88&biw=1280&bih=871 http://www.google.com.au/search?q=maloo&hl=en&prmd=imvns&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=5_0hT7jhFO-SiAeC_-z8BA&ved=0CFoQsAQ&biw=1280&bih=871 There is also a Ford version called a Falcon: http://www.google.com.au/search?q=maloo&hl=en&prmd=imvns&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=5_0hT7jhFO-SiAeC_-z8BA&ved=0CFoQsAQ&biw=1280&bih=871#hl=en&tbm=isch&sa=1&q=ford+falcon+ute&oq=ford+falcon+ute&aq=0&aqi=g3g-m7&aql=&gs_sm=c&gs_upl=81465l83887l0l85527l11l10l0l0l0l1l469l1562l2-2.2.1l5l0&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.,cf.osb&fp=ce657e049a9ade88&biw=1280&bih=871 These things are popular here because they can be kinda sporty but can still be used as a plumber's vehicle during the week.
  16. If they flowed well I think you would generate international interest. It can cost that ball park to get a head professionally flowed...... count me in.
  17. I am located in Australia. Here we did not get the option of remote controlled rear windows in the S130. I would really like to install it as a conversion in my S130 2+2. Does anyone have the entire mechanism they would be willing to sell and send to me? Also any advice regarding this conversion would be appreciated. Thanks Greg
  18. I agree the plate on the dunny door Ute looks mexican to me. Oh sorry I forgot I was on a US forum, I'll translate: The number plate on the holden truck looks like a New South Wales issued item. It would be interesting to see how that thing performs aerodynamically.
  19. I am not sure but there seems to be a bit of interest out there for the Aussie style front indicators and tail lights for the 240z. I am including a URL for a manufacturer of these lenses. I can't vouch for this supplier but I thought it might be useful. http://www.streetlens.com/japanese.html
  20. Leyland Mini (Seriously changed the way small cars have been built ever since)
  21. Model T, 260z, 280z, 280zx, 300zx (Z31), 300zx (Z32), 350z, 370z That only leaves 1 missing
  22. I have a 1982 S130 2+2 (Right Hand Drive). It is blue and has the 5 speed manual. It has the targa roof. It is a non turbo (Thats all we got here). It is totally stock except for the headers and suspension. It won 1st place for the best 280zx at the 2005 Nationals. It is in need of a freshen up but is still running and I still use it on the road.
