change rearend to ford 9"
galderdi replied to headmechanic's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
I don't specifically know of anyone who has. But I suspect it has been done by people drag racing their Z. But unless you are drag racing it would be a step backwards going from independant to Live rear end. Having said that, the latest camaro runs independant rear. Anyone know the size of their diff? -
240z coil-over question
galderdi replied to Dillon's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Good to hear you are Ok. Although with a large portion of your state below sea level I would be considering raising the hieght of your Z We had a close call with the floods here back in Jan 2011. There was a point at which I was contemplating which Z I would save if the waters rose any further as I couldn't drive them both to safety. Luckily the water around us only came close enough to scare us. Back to your original question. The spacer idea is tried and true but it only fixes the bump steer issue. Another option is to move the pivot point for the lower control arm about 1 inch out and 1 inch up. This not only fixes the bump steer but gives a little camber at the same time. -
Can someone enlighten me. How is it possible to have a "Blue printed" stroker? I thought blue printing meant matching the engine precisely to the original factory specifications. There are no original specifications for a stroker???

Wow, I'd never heard that before. Here (Queensland Australia) we have the oposite problem. Here there is no real motivation for the new owner to transfer the registration. For example I sold a GM Sedan, I did all the correct paperwork to transfer the remaining rego. I got a photocopy of his driver license etc. But he didn't bother to transfer the rego. He then proceeded to rack up a few speeding and parking fines and because the car was in my name I received the bills. They totalled over $900 for a car that I sold for $500. Lucky I had his details so I was able to complete statutory declarations to avoid having to pay. But it was still a pain in the neck.

Here's one that works well down here in Oz but I can't seem to find a build thread....Maybe the build predates the interweb ????

Anyone know where to get this front lip?
galderdi replied to CaptainJoe87's topic in Body Kits & Paint
I love it. I might try to fabricate one. But shipping to you guys would be a killer. -
I was told by my engineer I needed to modernise mine so that my modifications would comply with our local regulations. I took the filler and cap from a 280zx and modified (welded) the bend to suit the S30. I also had to redrill the mounting bolts around the filler ring to match the S30. Other than that it works a treat. The only trick is sealing the weld so it doesn't rust using a paint that won't disolve when fuel hits it. I actually think he was wrong but it was easier to do the modification rather than argue with an "Expert".

Inman, You will need to provide some way to guarantee the transaction will be legitimate. There are a lot of scams around involving overseas purchases of cars. half way through the transaction the paypal transaction is cancelled. A lot of vehicle owners end up losing their vehicle and sometimes even cash as well. No offence if you are a legitimate buyer and good luck with the hunt.

Anyone Know What Happened In This Z and 911 Crash Pic?
galderdi replied to slownrusty's topic in Non Tech Board
The circuit is Phillip Island in Victoria (Just Near Melbourne as the signs suggest) The Driver of the Zed is Jason. Jason is a well known Datsun racer (and Porsche beater) round these parts. Here is a link containing some of his comments about the incident: http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php?topic=10557.30 And here are some more shots from the secquence: http://www.motorsportretro.com/2012/03/porsche-911-crash-photos/ -
Just bought a 240z. Whatchu think?
galderdi replied to ~KnuckleDuster~'s topic in S30 Series - 240z, 260z, 280z
Its great. Step 2 get rid of the gold in the engine bay. But seriously I think the wheels will look great if you just get rid of the red highlights and get some decent centre caps. Try using photoshop to imagine what it would be like. -
Just a quick update. The landcruiser was officially written off today. I am fairly happy with the outcome.
-
Oh I forgot to mention. The Landcruiser has an LPG conversion. Meaning it has a 75 litre gas tank behind the rear wheels. After the accident my neihbour got his lighter out and was using it as a torch to inspect the damage around the rear wheel. It could have ended up as an entry in the Darwin awards. I know its not likely as those tanks are built to take a beating but still....what an idiot.

Yes its was a Toyota Surf. Which is a Hilux / Forerunner variation here. I think it was a 90s model. The Narvara is a D22 which they still sell even though there is a newer design (D40). The tow ball rating is pretty good on the D22 2.8 Tonne. The only thing I think they should have improved was the gearing. It would really benefit from the 6 speed box fitted to the D40. I like the idea of the boulder/s. I probably only need one or two if I place them strategically. But then again I do need to retain access to my back yard.

Thats funny I already considered a moat. But I only won $30 on the lotto ticket I purchased that day, not enough for the moat or the c. He did take out one of the 10 inch bollards concreted into the ground. But it just pulled out of the ground.

I have seen both in person. The back quarter window on the 86 seems like a direct ripoff from the S30. There is an LFA that drives by me occasionally as I walk to work. Damn that engine sounds sweet. Very high pitch though....give me a throaty L28 anyday

I recently purchased a brand new Nissan Narvara. I picked it up the same day my Landcruiser died (burnt valve caused a backfire that blew the airflow meter). For three months the landcruiser has been in my backyard while I removed bits, had bits fixed and then re-assembled it, Sunday last week I got the Landcruiser going and moved it from the backyard for the first time in three months. I parked it perfectly parallel to the new narvara ready to be sold. Then at 1 am Tuesday morning (less than 2 days after I moved it) I hear a god almighty "BANG!!!!!". I woke instantly with my heart in my mouth. Some turkey reckons he fell asleep at the wheel. He has crossed the wrong side of the road, managed to miss some poles and a bus shelter. I think he woke as he hit the mound near the bus shelter, then locked his brakes and skidded about 80 yards missing a power pole, but hitting a bollard and then my cruiser. Keep in mind my driveway is about 30 yards long so he has travelled a long way to hit my cruiser. The 3 tonne cruiser travelled about 3 feet under hilux power I am sooooooo glad I got the cruiser running and moved it otherwise the narava would not be new anymore. 1.bmp 2.bmp 3.bmp

They are quite common here is Australia. I had one a while back but sold it.

What license do you need to participate in Lemons? Is there only one series or multiple? What locations do they run at? Is there anything else I would need to consider if I were thinking of flying over from Australia, Buying a car, competing and flying back?

When I first installed the quick release I was forced to disconnect my horn because it was permanently on whenever the battery was connected. At the time I didn't have time to check out the issue. Yesterday I took the quick release back off and checked the cause of the issue. It turns out there was not enough clearance between the back of the quick release and the end of the steering column (the threaded part). The wire for the horn protrudes out the back of the quick release, when I bolted it all together the wire got pinched between the quick release and the steering column. It was pinched so bad it actually cut the wire entirely and earthed it to the steering column in the process. So I removed the quick release, used a grinder to cut a groove from the centre hole off to the side to ensure the wire would not get pinched again. Another tip here is to keep the sides of the groove rather steep so it holds the wire in place while you put it all back together. All fixed now

By the way I happened to stumble on to this. I wasn't even searching for it. But its exactly what I was worried about. http://uk.video.yahoo.com/yahooeurosport-10104300/ukeurosportnew-10104448/steering-wheel-comes-off-in-driver-s-hands-28853592.html

Farthest driven,Longest road trip anyone's done?
galderdi replied to Hi Def's topic in S130 Series - 280ZX
My other dream is to do a full circuit of all the race tracks in Australia in one round trip. But the timing is a real issue with this idea. A few of them are only open once or twice per year. It would also mean trailering the car as it would be in race trim. That trip would be about 10,000 miles. I did do 900 miles with a collapsed lung in an S130. Does that give me extra credit? Although I did spend the following month in hospital....yeah yeah I know I'm a wuss. -

galderdi replied to Hi Def's topic in S130 Series - 280ZX
I haven't done it but I was contemplating a trip from here (Brisbane, Queensland) to Germany. Drive the Nurburgring and then return trip. It would be about 30,000 miles return not including sea crossings. It sounds impossible but I know someone who did it in a 40 year old Australian car. From Australia to Indonesia, Thailand, India, Middle east, Turkey, Greece, Italy, France and Germany. It would be the trip of a lifetime. -
I got mine on Ebay. I am in Australia as is the seller so I'm not sure if that would help but let me know if you still want it. The item was manufactured in Asia somewhere so I wouldn't be surprised if someone in the USA imports the same item. The seller is hambarr0
