Jt1, what do people complain about shift quality, is it "notchy" or hard to get into gear, or what? Jt1, see the picture man? its in the rear position, but positioned forward a little. I am okay with trimming the shifter hole a little. It involves more than just buyina a shifter to change the location, right? Dsommer, i paid $700 + $95 for shipping. Its off a classified add on another forum. he was asking $1000, and i offered $700, i think its a hell of a deal. It is brand new, and i see these go for around $1500 regularly. a6t8vw- I am running a 302 chevy, and i estimate the power to be somewhere between 450-550 HP, that is a rough est. but i think it is very acheiveable. this tranny should work great

Hey guys! I am so excited, i just got a Tremec 3550! I know Paraska runs one, does anyone else. These things fit with just a little hammering on the trans tunnel? I know a tko 500 stands up to 500 ft lbs, and a tko 600, to 600 ft lbs, a 3550, is just a little weaker? He says the numbers are Tremec 3550 - TCET2057 Offset Shifter 26 Spline Input Shaft 31 Spline Output Shaft But i cant find any info on that, from what i see it maybe a tko. is a 3550 a type of tko? man this is a little confusing What about the shifter in the most rear position, how does that work out? this has a different from what ive seen location of the front of the rear location, see the pics...

Hydraulic throw out bearings
HarrisonTX replied to HarrisonTX's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
You think you could tell me the size of the master so i dont have to go through the same thing you did? Thanks guys -
Isnt a hydraulic throw out bearing the easiest solution? Add a larger Master, and a hydraulic throw out bearing, and i got it, right? I am planning on running a Gen I SBC, with a Super t-10. If i ran a hydraulic throw out bearing i could just run a normal mechanical linkage bellhousing? Thank you

LT1 cooling, ya gotta burp these things.
HarrisonTX replied to deja's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
i dont know anything about bleeders. The thermostat is closed when you fill the radiator with water, if the block is empty, it will be empty until the thermo opens, which will make you have a low water level once the block fills with water. Some guys break in the motors with no thermostat -
I have built a few motors piece by piece, and it is fun, and rewarding, but i do think it is more expensive if you have nothing to start with. If you were to build say, a ZZ 383, with the same parts, i think it would be considerably more than just buying the crate, and you know all the stuff will work together. for example i just got some Brodix ik200's, which came with new springs, but they wont work with my cam, so bam, gotta get new springs.

Guidelines to building a 302
HarrisonTX replied to mario_82_ZXT's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
Well, i never said the 302 would make more power than the 383, im not denying that. I am strictly standing up for the rev speed. Mario didnt say anything about making power, he just was talkin about a buzzin motor, so thats what i was talkin about. Heres some more to chew on 280z What do you know about piston speed? A 383's piston will be traveling alot faster than a 302's at 7,000 rpm. The faster the piston is going, the more stress that will be on the rotating assembly when it has to go from haulin ass, to completely stopped at TDC, or BDC. The faster the piston is going, the more stress that will be on the rotating assembly. Nascar motors run honda size crank journals. 1.8. Why? bearing speed. a 383 will have a large journal crank, which will have a a higher bearing speed than my small journal 302. a large journal crank will have more friction on the crank which will also contribute to slower revs. the 383's crank also weighs more, which will make it rev slower. A 383 will need more cam than a 302 because it has to flow more air for any given rpm. That being said if your talking stress on valve train than the 383 for any given rpm would have more stress if it has a bigger cam. A bigger cam, more spring presser to prevent valve float, this would cause more friction and there for make the 383 rev slower. -

man, do you have anything to base this on? I just gotta say, really dont think you right "both engines have the same bore, the 383's piston friction at 7,000 rpm will be much greater due to the .750 longer stroke" piston friction will cause slower revs. I think your crazy man. but anywho. you have never met anyone that done a motor swap? who the heck do you hang out with? Did you do your own work? I will for sure come on down, what is it 2 hours from lubbock>? -
Guidelines to building a 302
HarrisonTX replied to mario_82_ZXT's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
What you said about the valve train not knowing whats below it, i just said that right above your comment when i said 7,000 rpm is 7,000. I get that. Think about piston friction, often over looked. take a 383 vs a 302, "both engines have the same bore, the 383's piston friction at 7,000 rpm will be much greater due to the .750 longer stroke 280z, you said this "A 302 will not get to it's peak rpm faster than a larger cubic inch engine similarly built" If you a 383 will reach 7000 just as fast a 302, i strongly disagree. If you are saying i 383's max power is say 5,800, and a 302's is say 7000, and they will reach their individual peak at the same time, i think thats impossible to say. Mario, man this is going to far lol. If you want a 302 build it. if you want the best bang for you buck go 383, im not denying a 383 will be cheaper (maybe) and make more power. I am just saying a 302 will be fun. Im not trying to be the fastest guy in town, im just gonna have a good time. I dont wanna be like 90% of the ppl with an ls1, or a 383, im doing my own thing. Anywho, 280z, i love you still, and i live in lubbock. I have never rode ina v8z, how about i come down there -
Guidelines to building a 302
HarrisonTX replied to mario_82_ZXT's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
I just told you my 350 spins to 6,500. and it is dead reliable. Thats with stock double hump heads, and a mild hyd. cam. You can build 377, which is a destroked 400 will rev good, and wont be too much difference in price. a 327 would be good too, probably rev higher than a 350. whether its 7,000 rpm in a 302, or a 400, 7,000 rpm is still 7,000 rpm. Its gonna be hard on the valve train parts no matter what the cubes are. a 350 can see 6,500 a 302 will see 6500 +, faster and easier, in my opinion -
Guidelines to building a 302
HarrisonTX replied to mario_82_ZXT's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
Well, if your only wanting to see 6.5k, then a 350 will do that just fine. I run a 355, in my malibu. I have a stocke forged 350 crank, some forged eagle rods, and probe pistons, a stock flywheel, and a stock balancer. The rotating assembly was professionally balanced, and it spins to 6500 just fine. So 6,500 isnt asking too much man. Just make sure it is balanced good, and dosnt vibrate apart I do agree 100% with grumpy about the valvetrain stress, but Im running afr eliminator's, which come stock with good vavles, and my solid roller cam will only be about .530 lift, so the stress wont be too much. I will dyno it, and i expect around 450 at the crank -
Guidelines to building a 302
HarrisonTX replied to mario_82_ZXT's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
Mario Ah yes, the 302. Thats what i am currently building Your right, 4 inch bore, 3 inch stroke. It is not as simple as swapping cranks, and new bearings. You need special pistons too. The part number is L2210a. they run about $350-$400, with varying size domes, i have never seen flatop 302 pistons. Now, the reason for the special piston is where the pin, to hold the rod on the piston is located. like, if you had a 350, and you bought a 383 crank, you would need pistons. A 283 crank is great. All 283's cranks are forged cranks. You can get a small journal 327 block, and a small journal or a large journal 350, 327, whatever block, and a 302 crank, and you would have it then. Or you could find a 283 block, that would could be bored to .060 and then you would have it. I think i got that right, once i found all my pieces, i kinda forgot. just find yourself a 3.00 stroke crank, first, then find the block, whether its large or small journal. You will get lots of hell, especially from people on this site that will say, "why not build a 383, its cheaper and more cubes = more power" and all kinds of stuff like that. Im not building this my motor to be the fastest guy in town, i just want something fun. Plus, these motors make power in the higher rpm's so why would i build a low tq monster, when a 302's power will really come in once i get the car moving. yes, you may spend a little more on this motor than say, a 350. The expensive parts for me was the pistons, at $365, and the virgin 327 small journal block at $200. everything else is normal price, you can score a 283 crank cheep! what im runnin is in my sig, afr eliminator heads, a stock, forged crank with a fluidamper balancer, an aluminum flywheel, some h-beam rods and the L2210af pistons and a solid roller cam. im going to run a team-g weiand intake, and a nice holley. -
thats awesome your runnin a 302, i am building mine now! i get so much ♥♥♥♥ for it too. how do you not know what kinda tranny is in there. You didnt build the car?
-
Its not gettin screwed man. I own both, a z, and a g-body (a malibu, its the same car). So i was rooting for both teams. the older team was just more expierienced. call it "out negociated" (i cant spell) the z team didnt have to agree to the terms. im not trying to start anything!!!!!!!!!! The host, he is such a nerd. have you seen how intense his face gets when hes "flaggin" he wrinkles it up, and sometimes slightly opens his mouth. I hate him for that. I go to some serious street races often (low 6 second cars in the 1/8th, its no bs) and noone flags like him. he takes it so serious, and knows nothing

I know there is an exhaust pics, but alota that is for I6's and single, and exhaust tech questions. I just want to see some dual exhaust pics, and how you guys route them. Am i right to think that round 2.5 pipes, with 2 mufflers, is gonna suck on ground clearence?

im sure ill get flames like crazy for this, but i dont care. Never seen the episode myself, i was in iraq at the time, but i read about all the drama. hybridz pinks team on pinks now. man the host in a nerd

Points to HEI conversion kits?
HarrisonTX replied to HarrisonTX's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
yea, i thought about that, but i think the HEI is super close to the fire wall in the V8Z conversion, so i was trying to over come that, and maybebe able to set the motor furter back -
Hey guys. Have any of yall tried the kits that convert an old points distributer to an hei? Just curious how they work?

Ebay headers, JTR conversion, perfect fit
HarrisonTX replied to jakeshoe's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
so just like alot of header deals, its kinda a hit and miss. They are so cheap What about the difference in Stainless, and Chrome? -
John Oh man!! That woulda be one hell of a first v8z ride. Ive also never been in a car that has yanked the front tires, coulda killed 2 birds with one stone. damn it! And your so close, columbia! thats right outside the gate! It not gonna be up this weekend? On the heat, Ive lived in Texas for 21 years, but last year in the summer i was in Iraq, so i havnt had a texas summer in over a year. It is pretty hot here, but i think texas has a little more heat. nothing compares to Iraq tho, lol (I have pics at 140* on a thermometer) Its been raining for like 2 weeks straight in fortworth dallas area, which is super un common.

Hey guys, im up in SC from texas at fort Jackson for a little school. Ive been looking for car shows or cruises the whole time and havnt seen anything. This weekend is my last weekend. Any v8 Z's in the area? Ive never rode in one, and would really like to before i start my swap, keep my motivation up. Im free saturday and sunday and will drive up to an hour in any direction!
