I've searched for info on TKO's here several times over the years. There is little to NO information that I get back. (see how long I've been a member?) Who actually has a TKO in their Z? I know they are a little wide up top, and I'm just curious about fitment issues. Also, I'm running the JTR kit, and I'm curious as to where the shifter will come out. '74 260, and I just started pulling the 6 popper out lastnight. After years, it's finally happening. I have a tko500.

anyone done this yet? I think it would look real good. I hate to attach a "theme" to my build, but if I had to, it would be an Open road race/endurance car. I think these would look real good.

I plan to add a black airdam, like the one you have, and run a pair of 6'' lights, close together mounted low. Similar to eleanor. I've yet to buy an airdam, so I'm not sure if it would support the weight of 2 lights.

2007? Hell, I've had mine since '05, and you're way ahead. I could see mine running by the fall. I have everything, just need the time, and space. I move into a shop in waco in july.. 1900 square feet!

Looks like its coming along, man! You sure made that por15 look good. I like the hood, and love the "datsun" strip down the side.

How was your phone lost, or stolen? Also, LMAO at you trying to locate a "lopez" in buffalo texas. Half that city is named lopez.

Awesome news. I have had my eyes on these for years, waiting for someone else to take the plunge first. GREAT GREAT! I assume they are chinese, which I'm not happy about, But I gotta cut corners somewhere, my $1400 heads sure are American made.. -
Pete Jackson Cam Gears Opinions Wanted
HarrisonTX replied to dandyZ's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
I'm the exact opposite. They sound like a blower to me. I don't want a blower sound, unless I have a blower to actually back it up. "You've got a blower on that thing" No, it's just a $100 gear drive. If I had a blower, the sound would be music to my ears, without a blower, it would just be plain annoying. And talking about hearing it over the exhaust, from what I've heard, that all depends on where you are standing. Behind the car, even with quiet exhaust you can't hear the gear drive. Infront of the car, even with open headers, you can hear the gear drive. -
I have an innovate LM1 for my carb tuning. It really takes the guess work out of stuff. Run you somewhere around $270. Helps you tune at idle, part throttle, and full throttle. Its a Wide band A/F ratio gauge. Avoid narrow band gauges, they are worthless. The LM1 requires a bung to be welded into your exhaust (they all do) and a little wiring. Thanks for clearning up the RPM issue. I though that was crazy high for a 6 speed. If it only turns 1600 at those speeds here is a simple solution - Drive faster.
-
You're turning 2300-2600 RPM and going 65-70 mph? Jesus, what rear gears do you have? With a t56 I'd think you'd be about 1300RPM.

I told you not to ask. Its sad stuff. I guess its hard to explain. I went there looking for a picture. The monk who set himself on fire in Saigon in 1963, google "burning monk" for that one. And, theres a picture made famous in Time magazine of an NVA officer executing a prisoner in hand cuffs. The picture is shot right when the bullet is in entering the guys head. I dont watch the videos there. I really like photography, and there are some good pictures there, that you wont find anywhere else. A dirtier part of history. I'm on my third combat deployment right now, maybe that has something to do with it.

I believe this too. BUT, I also believe its RPM that will make a flywheel come apart. With a 383, its probably not turning much passed 6,000. It takes someone seeing a piece of flywheel cut through the floor then the dash and out the windshield, or seeing one embed in the concrete before they really want to invest in a blowproof. -
Chevy 302 build for my z32 w/th400

That sounds kinda petty. I'll only sell my car, if sell yours... Give me a break. You shouldnt be punished because of her poor car purchase. My girl owns an '06 CTS, no problems yet -

If your in the market, I'd go TKO. I havn't run mine yet, but have researched the "clunkyness'' you mention. From what I hear, it has alot to do with the fluid you use. The "synchomesh" is expensive, so people dont use it. -

That cam sounds like something I might be interested in. Your comment on your 407 about traction is one of the main reasons for my thoughts on my 302. I guess what it comes down to is, I'd rather slip the clutch, than have the tires slip. I maybe making a mistake, and will learn from it. BUT at the same time, I will have a blast with this setup. If it dosnt work out, or is as terrible as people preach it to be, i have a 406 with twisted wedge trick flow heads I can slide in there. I dont have 4.56's. Even with overdrive the short tire of a Z car would make highway speed require waaay to much RPM for me. I have 3.90's -

He never asked for any advice on cubic inches, nor how to be the fastest guy in town, and win races. Im sure if he was, then he'd build a 572 BB. You can throw around numbers all you want, this isnt a pissing contest. I'm not interested in how many SBC's you've built. Anyone can assemble a motor. Anyone old enough can assemble 100. I'm just saying stick to the questions he is asking. If you spent as much time advising people on their current builds as you did trying to change their minds 80% of the way into the build, we would all have trophies, and be in victory lane. Dr. Hunt, that motor sounds awesome. I dont have a super expensive bottom end like that, but I'm paying close attention to the valve train on my 302. AFR's Baby! -

Grumpy, He wasn't asking for a suggestion on what motor would be better. If you feel the need to give advice, and post a bunch a links, why not talk about a 302, since that's what he is building. I doubt he is going to scratch his whole build that is already at the machine shop. Sure the 302 isnt a tourqe monster but who cares. Its a light car, and will still be fun. I'm sure you will reply to this post with 4-6 links on why I am wrong, and what will be better. -
Chevy 302 build for my z32 w/th400
HarrisonTX replied to Firion__13's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
YESSS Brother, you are speaking my language. In 2003, i bought a 3.00 stroke crank. From there i decided to build a 302. Then i realized, i need a light car for this motor. Six years later, and a couple stacks of cash here I am I got the machine work done on the motor, and the rotating assembly is balanced as of last summer. I'm deployed right now, and havnt had more than a 2 week vacation with the car in the last 5 years, but that hasnt stopped my from buying piles of parts. The shitty part is, i cant tell you exactly what i have, i just plumb forgot the specs on the heads and pistons, and such. 283 crank (forged.. all of them were) SCAT h beam rods JE pistons (5.7 rod, fair dome on them, last set in the country supposedly) AFR 210cc eliminators.. just to name the fun parts. Im going to run a Team-G intake, and a solid roller cam. The cam is the only part i dont have, and dont even have a clue yet what to go with. I got a tko500 last year. In short, the motor is ready to be assembled, and i have just about a complete drivetrain. Now its just car prep. My contract ends this summer, and i will be free to spend night after night, un-interrupted with my Z. It should be finished by August. People will talk sooo much ♥♥♥♥ to you about building a 302. Well, im not trying to be the fastest car in town, and im not trying to squeeze every single last bit of horse power out of my car. Im also not trying to be like every other Joe, and build a 383. i simply want a fun, quick little ride. This 302 will produce that, i guarantee it. -
Thank your for the information. That looks like the way i want to go. I guess it has 4 ports, just for better mounting options. I plan on running something similiar in style to yours, with the addition of an oil cooler. I plan on mine seeing extended street time, hopefully plenty of highway miles, and should see upper RPMs often. Thanks guys.
-
Here is another option. It looks like even more out of the way
-
I dont know what Dan's got going on. I realize he has an oil cooler after the filter. Why the extra in and out port on the filter mount? In my head it goes like this. unfiltered oil from the motor, going to the filter, oil leaving the filter going to the cooler. leaving the cooler going back to the engine... not... leaving the cooler going back to the filter? Ive seen this before, just never thought about it.

Looks good, thx for the pics. Real strong LEDS... Use the damn link i posted.. "super bright" is in the name, so you know they are bright.

you need to post pics right away! This place will probably have what you need to hold the LED in there http://www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-bin/store/index.cgi?action=DispPage&Page2Disp=%2Ftail-brake-turn.html
