You may have gotten one for a year different then what is in your car. I purchsed a 260Z cap for a 260Z I once had and it fit nearly perfectly--it is something I would recommend in a heartbeat. There is some trimming that you need to do around switches and watnot, but it sould fit. When installed correctly, it'll look so good no one will be able to tell it's actually a cap. I removed the screws holding the dash in place and brough it out forward a little, then I fit the cap in place after trimming and refitting the dash a few times. After gluing/siliconing the cap, I tightly bound the assembly with bungee cords until it fully dried. Perfect fit. Davy

Whats shocks to run with coilovers/camberplates
DavyZ replied to a topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Ae86drifter, you have these on a Z or an AE86?? Those are some serious "racing only" rates, and I'm hard pressed recommending anything to you for a street car. My question is "why?" Is this a track only car? Give us some more info. Davy -
That would be "winkle" Davy Borrow my Maximum Boost or Turbochargers for a textbook answer...

I had my entire Infinity Q45 (about 15 to 20 dings, no kidding) done by someone I knew from a dealership where I worked. The guys that do the BMWs and MBZs typically are very very good at their craft; their experience shows. I would NEVER hesitate to do it again and feel that it is entirely worth the money. The only thing closer is a total repaint with bodywork, and that ain't happening. Typical rule fo thumb: if a decent car dealership is happy with a Dent Pro, Dent Busters, Dent Erasers, Painless Dent Removal, etc guy, you will be too. Keep in mind, the work is very very good, but imperfections can still show up. I knew this going in and I told him to do the best that he could---I got close to perfection for not very much $$$. Davy

AAAAAAAhahahahahahaaaaahaaa! True true! I nearly busted a gut laughing from that. Thanks! Davy

He needs a good 'spanking'; maybe jail will get him what he deserves. I pity the fool who asks me NOT to turn him in after he runs rampant across my property. Idiot. Davy

I doubt Al needs AC since he lives in one of the wettest states of the Union Trick car, Nick, and thanks for sharing. The work on the wheels seems like a fair price to pay IMO. I kind of expected that, but you get what you pay for. Nice work so far Davy

Yeah, you might be better off with a "Well Cell", but I'm not so sure it will fit. (22 inches in diameter and 8 inches high). Davy

You might get a better response if you post this in the proper forum, like the "Brakes forum" or you may get silence. That said, the rear hubs are too small to drill out for a Chevy bolt pattern. To go to a Chevy bolt pattern in the front, you'll need custom rotors, etc, which is not cheap, but doable. The better thing to do is to drill for a Ford pattern and then use adapters to mount the Chevy wheels. Go to http://www.modern-motorsports.com/catalog/default.php and look for what you need. Ross C has about everything you could want for such a swap. Davy

Looks pretty darn good--love that FlowMaster Y pipe in the middle. Yep, I bet it sounds pretty wicked Davy

Same thing happened to my tire, only with a pair of pliers, no joke. It ruins the tire as far performance driving goes, although I used about FOUR of those goop covered fix-a-flat rope thingies to plug that hole. Not smart, but I was a poor college kid back then. Davy

I would see if I could get a place to make a plexiglas cowl induction unit for the hood. It would be clear so you wouldn't 'see' it so much, and it would show off the gorgeous induction system. I echo the sentiments to MAKE IT WORK even if you have to buy another hood and cut a hole in it. Davy

Wow I'm really blown away by the sanitary look of that motor being there--thanks for the pics!!!!! Davy

I think the as the saying goes, "If you have to ask, you can't afford it!" LOL Sorry Stony, but I couldn't resist--nothing against you, man. The work on this car is exceptional and I like where it is headed too. Only, it needs a twin turbo V8, then it would be purrrfect. Davy

Did anyone actually ever complete a Z32 > Z8 project?

New product from John Washington/Reaction Research

I like them a lot and they will replace the ghastly vents on the 280Z hood I have. Very cool IMO. Davy -
*Bump* I'm interested in this too. Owen, are you out there? Davy

We went for pizza at Woodstock's in Davis after the Rio Vista meet. Glad to see there are Z car fans at my alma mater. Davy

Truer words were never spoken--with an engine like you have, you'll have plenty of time to 'grow' into the power and handling of your car. Mine will be more tame, but I plan to learn to really drive the car before upping the power more (a turbo V8 is in the works as we speak, but first things first). David, glad you liked the story!! I was 25 years old then and had been wanting to do a V8 Z even before then. Now I'm a lot older, but I finally have the humble means to put one together. I'm happy. Davy

Pete, I would certainly get an amp to boost the magnitude of sound to overcome the volume of sound coming from the engine and give you better, fuller sound. A subwoofer is not a bad idea to enhance the musical experience evenif you don't intend to "use" a lot of base. I hear you on that one, Buddy. I have always purchased from Crutchfield due to their do-it-yourself products and instructions, but I'm sure that Evan can hook you up too. Davy

220 can throw you across the room. My friend died from touching that or something greater (don't want or need to know fronkly). Glad you are in one piece. 220 can cause some major damage. I nearly electrocuted myself when I was a kid by plugging in a night light while standing in a full bathtub. I do not want to repeat the experience. I imagine 220 is more painful. Davy

I first drove a V8 about 11 years ago. I happened to drive the JTR mule test car that Mike Knell owned. Why he would take me for a ride or let me drive is beyond me. We went to his private 'testing ground' and he hammered the thing. The front went up and I saw hood and sky. The wheels were boiling and smoking--nothing but V8 roar and squeeling tires, then he hit second gear: same thing, only we're going faster now. Then he hit third, it churped the tires and he hit fourth. I had my hands in his dash in front of me trying to hold on while screaming. He laughed so hard at my ignorance. "How fast were we going?" I asked him. "You don't want to know," was his answer. He looked over at me as I hyperventilated and asked, "You want to drive?" "Of couse!" I said as we traded places. He told me what to do and I nailed the throttle. All I remember is that I made it through two gears before slowing down and thanking him that I had enough rush for one day. I was hooked though. That is a 13 second car with 275 genuine HP. I have driven several other V8 Z's, but the more you drive fast cars, the more you get used to them. So I'm building mine to be a moderately fast car that I can work the bugs out before getting insane with power. Remember that power is usable if you can get it to the ground. Yes Darius' car makes (or "made", past tense) big HP--he still has only run 11's at the strip. Don Manzo's car also runs consistent 11's but is NA! His car hooks better too. Shoot, if that is not enough, Scottie's GNZ runs 10's on a 6 cyl GN motor! Both of those guys impress me more, but you won't find them racing through traffic or in the back of police cars either (my apologies to Darius, but I can't help laughing at the pic of him in the back of the police cruiser ) There are faster guys on the board, but they don't usually drive long distances with their cars like Don & Scottie do. Anyway, the rush you get from one of these cars is not matched by any Honda on my block, or ever will be for the money. I hope to get mine going this summer. Davy

rofl. Is it a Camaro thing? I'm missing something. Maybe it's like my dad used to say, "Son, if I have to explain it to you, it's no longer funny." Davy

Welcome to the forum; enjoy! The link he gave you about the JTR manual covers all of that. This forum and the others also cover the basic questions that have been asked about infinitum. In a nutshell, you can use the 1990 engine and tranny, no worries. The R200 rear diff has a 200 mm ring gear, the same size as the Corvette's--it is strong enough to handle the torque of the V8. If the search function on the forum is working, by all means please use it--you'll save yourself hours of time by reading all the great answers supplied by knowledgeable members on the forum. The JTR manual is a great guide and well worth the money invested to outline a swap and take you though each step. If you read the "sticky" at the top of the forum, that will answer a ton of questions too. Davy
